Ah, YouTube, you sure are the video-site heard ’round the world. We’ve all heard those success stories of the Justin Bieber-types who land record deals and whatnot, but for a website that specializes in ‘the movie’ not very many moviemakers are getting phone calls from Paramount, or so we would think. Among the many personalities that roam around YouTube there is Pedro Flores a.k.a PDFlo and Tim Chantarangsu a.k.a TimothyDeLaGhetto who, if they’re lucky, will get to see their first feature film High School Sucks: The Musical on the big screen.

Check out The “Socalled” Movie where a real artist who follows his dream is able to take the internet and YouTube and become a massive success (apparently that really does work! Keep trying all your indie film-makers with crappy cameras and good ideas!). Thanks to the National Film Board of Canada and YouTube the feature-length documentary film titled The “Socalled” Movie will be premiered at the SXSW Film Festival on March 16.
The film is about Canadian musician, Socalled, whose debut music video garnered over 2M views on YouTube, is the subjects of the film and will also be performing at the festival on the 16th.

All aboard the YouTube train. Disney/ABC and ESPN have cut a sweet deal with the online video site that is a win-win for all involved. While Disney and ESPN want to reach all corners of the cyber-earth, Google just wants a little more mula out of it’s YouTube. According to Variety:
Disney Media Networks will sell its own advertising inventory on the channels in a revenue-sharing arrangement with YouTube parent Google.

December Twenty-Fifth is nearly upon us, and while the TV networks, movie theaters, and school pageants try to get everyone in the giving mood, there is a sinister side to the yuletide.
Those fleeting hours of cellophane-shredding euphoria will require a measure of pain and sacrifice. Between now and Christmas morning there is the gauntlet of jammed parking lots, psychotic families, and maxed-out credit cards.
With the endless loop of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas (is You)” pumping us full of sweetness and light, it’s nice to sit down with a movie that pumps the holiday spirit full of lead.
Without further ado, here is Screencrave’s list of quality entertainment that is worth the green when you’re seeing red.

Hollywood goes Youtube. Well they actually did a while ago, they’re just finally admitting it. MGM just announced that they will be releasing a full-length feature film on YouTube. And this is most likely just the beginning. Lionsgate signed a deal with YouTube last summer but only for short clips from films and TV shows. MGM is planning on putting entire films and TV shows on the site.
The deal is that the studio gets 70% and Google gets the rest, much like the one Hulu began a year ago.

Streaming video from sites like Hulu, Netflix (Watch Instantly), and Youtube has completely changed the way I watch programs and films. I don’t even own a TV anymore (gasp). But I’ve noticed that the amount of crap programming I watch has increased 10 fold. I don’t think I’m the only one who’s watching really really bad movies and TV just because they stream quickly.
