This summer, we saw a rare thing: 20th Century Fox making good genre pictures. The home of Star Wars, the last couple years have seen the studio releasing junk like The Day the Earth Stood Still and Wolverine. Films that were so worked over they satisfied few. This summer they made X-Men: First Class and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, both of which were good – and profitable. They seemed to have learned their lesson, as they’re bringing back Mathew Vaughn for another X-Men movie, according to Deadline.

2011 was the year of the indie. The majority of adaptations and blockbusters all fell completely flat, and numerous big studio dramas were missing that something special. Normally I’m one to say that every year is a great year, but this is no There Will be Blood Vs. No Country for Old Men, or even Moon Vs. Inglourious Bastards. That being said, the end of this year has been packed with award-worthy films and Sundance seemed to produce a number of films that made it big throughout 2011.

X-Men has been a decades-long favorite of the Marvel comic books, so it’s no surprise to see relaunch X-Men: First Class take the No. 1 spot in theaters on its opening weekend. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender led the superhero film’s stellar cast, and though the gross wasn’t as high as we’ve seen in past weekends, it’s admirable to see X-Men: First Class bring in a solid amount of money without 3D or IMAX tickets. After a record-breaking weekend (highest opening weekend numbers for a comedy), The Hangover Part II fell to second place with $32.4 million. Other films in the top five include Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and the hilarious Bridesmaids…

The X-Men are back with their latest edition X-Men: First Class, a prequel to all of the other X-men films showing us the origins of the gang. Rest assured that walking into this film you can spit out the awful taste of Wolverine and be excited take everything First Class has to offer. The quite film obviously has a much stronger script, they managed to gather a stellar cast of real actors, and did a brilliant job of controlling the chaos that comes with so many story-lines and characters that make the X-Men films so great. Though I’m not quite as keen as some of my fellow critics on this film, there’s not doubt that this is a great summer film and quite possible the best action film you’ll see this year (though I’d love to be disproved). Let’s find out why…

After last weekends recording breaking box office returns, X-Men: First Class will try to prove that there is still life left in the X-Men franchise while competing against memorial day hold overs The Hangover 2, Kung Fu Panda 2. In all it should be a solid weekend at the box office. Check out our predictions…

Anyone who isn’t living in a cave and hasn’t seen the X-Men: First Class trailer knows that the prequel film is set in 1962 during the time of the Cuban Missile Crisis—which is inarguably cool. And now, according to Dark Horizons, producer Bryan Singer is hinting that the film’s sequels might skip ahead to the ‘70s, and then the ‘80s (because if there’s one thing fans are clamoring for, it’s to see Wolverine rocking a Flock of Seagulls haircut).

After Wolverine, there was some hope that 20th Century Fox was going to steer their X-Men franchise into better hands when writer/director Mathew Vaughn took the helm for X-Men: First Class. With a cast including Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy, January Jones, and academy award nominee Jennifer Lawrence, if nothing else, First Class seemed a step in the right direction. But then word leaked of late-in-the-game reshoots, and – for a film that’s due out in less than three months – there’s only recently been a teaser trailer and some posters that were strictly amateur hour. The first trailer offered a long prologue and some quick cut footage, but now’s there’s a Russian trailer with even more footage, a different focus and absolutely no English dialogue. Take a look…

Earlier today we posted two horrible posters from X-Men First Class. They featured Charles and Erik aka Professor X and Magneto, and they were some of the worst one sheets we’ve ever seen. We think the folks over at 20th Century Fox picked up on the scathing response of fans and quickly decided to make up for it. Over on the official X-Men Movie Facebook Page, they’ve released a production still from the film that features Lucas Till as Alex Summers aka Havok.

After seeing the international character posters for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men First Class, we thought domestic audiences would be in for a treat. The one sheets featured Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr before they became the legends Professor X and Magneto and they looked great! Yesterday evening, the studio decided to release the U.S. versions of the posters and to say they were unsatisfactory would be an understatement. Check them out and tell us what you think…
