Following a Labor Day hiatus, the DVD Releases return just in time to discuss the first summer disappointment of the year as Wolverine hits shelves.

With the current climate of Marvel Entertainment being so shaky, fans want to know what’s going on with their favorite comic based franchises. Two titles at the top of the Marvel list are Deadpool and the upcoming Wolverine sequel. Over at IGN they recently caught up with one of the producer’s on both films, Lauren Shuler Donner to find out their current status. What can we expect from the characters that we didn’t get in X-Men Origins: Wolverine?

It’s already been set in stone that a sequel to this summer’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine is happening, and a writer has just been confirmed. According to /Film, Christopher McQuarrie will pen the screenplay for what we’re tentively calling Wolverine 2. After the sorry excuse that passed for a script the last time around, there’s nowhere to go from here but up.

I’m going to shift focus from the film that wrapped up the 2009 summer blockbuster season (G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) to the one that kicked it off, X-Men Origins: Wolverine. According to /Film, star and producer Hugh Jackman has recently dropped a few hints regarding the upcoming sequel to the hit. He already acknowledged with one of the two surprise endings of the film that Wolvie would be heading to Japan, but now he’s opened up about its current stage of development.

Here are a few more photos from the Comic-Con exhibition floor. We got a shot of an official poster for the animated film Planet 51, as well as a statue of He-Man, and Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine. The Wolverine statue is made out of wax, and I’m surprised he hasn’t melted in all this San Diego heat. The air conditioning system is barely cutting it.

Stay tuned for more photos from the first official day of the convention.

wolverinerupertmurdochkj09 07 02 Fox Writer Sues Rupert Murdoch and Fox Over Wolverine Leak

Do you remember the giant fiasco when Wolverine was leaked onto the Internet a month before the release date? The entire situation seemed a bit strange. When it happened, Fox news writer, Roger Friedman wrote a review about the leaked version and was subsequently fired from his job. Friedman has now filed a lawsuit against Fox News Corp. and Rupert Murdoch, citing libel and is seeking $5 million for damages and $180,000 for legal fees. Friedman claims Fox’s statements “willfully, recklessly, intentionally and maliciously” defamed him.

rupertscientology Did Rupert Murdoch and the Scientologists Leak Wolverine?

I’m all for a good conspiracy theory, so when I came across this story I had to give it a little TLC. The majority of us know about the big internet release of X-Men Origins: Wolverine back in April that occurred a full month before it’s theatrical debut. The copy was an unfinished edit, missing various key special effects and footage. In spite of the scandal the film still managed to debut strong, and has made a decent amount of money. To this day we have never found out who was really behind the incident. Some speculate that it came from inside 20th Century Fox, while others are suggesting that Scientology may have played a role.

Who would have thought? Here is my theory as to why Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian beat out Terminator: Salvation at the box office. I’m blaming it on X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

But before I go off on that, let’s look at the numbers…
