Wow. You know, you’ve got to respect a guy that is a straight shooter, who tells you how it is. It’s a sure sign of integrity when a guy can tell you he’s made a mistake, right? Or maybe it’s just indicative of someone who is so amazingly, filthy rich that he can pretty much say anything without consequence. Either way, Universal chief Ron Meyer’s speech at the Savannah Film Festival recently dropped a few nuggets about how the film industry works, and about the goings on of Universal in particular: “We make a lot of sh***y movies and every one of them breaks my heart.” He then went on to provide a list of recent films he’d green lit that sucked (seriously, this is priceless).

Trends come and go, and with the success of Twilight, True Blood, and many more, the vampire genre is in full bloom. But werewolves haven’t been as crassly exploited. Part of this has to do with The Wolfman - starring Benecio Del Toro - not doing that well at the box office. That was a troubled production as Mark Romanek left it at the last minute, only to be replaced by Joe Johnston. Moviehole is reporting that Universal is now taking what would have been the sequel’s script and spinning it off into a new production.

After a couple weeks of DVD release randomness, we finally get a bona fide blockbuster rolling on to silver disc as Zombieland invades homes in all its gory glory.
It’s joined by the usual motley crew of releases, including a Hilary Swank movie that you absolutely forgot was released this year. Plus there’s tons of TV and true classic (see: old) hitting shelves this week.
