Disney has released the first official synopsis for Tim Burton’s upcoming film Frankenweenie. The movie is a remake of a short Burton made as a college student back in 1984. Over 25 years have passed since it was released and he’s got the funds, the time, the energy, and the acting talent to reboot it. Check out the synopsis and cast list below…

The psychological thriller set in the seemingly elegant world of the New York City Ballet stars an Oscar hungry Natalie Portman in a career defining performance. The film also stars Mila Kunis and Vincent Cassel and opens nationwide this Friday.

It will be one big reunion for Tim Burton on his upcoming film Frankenweenie. According to Deadline, some of the major players for the remake of his 1984 short have been revealed. It looks like the director went through his filmography and decided to get the band back together with Winona Ryder, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, and Martin Short.

It’s hard to remember back to that time in the 80′s time when actress Winona Ryder starred in everything under the sun. From Beetlejuice and Heathers to Little Women, Ryder played diverse roles and even won a Golden Globe Award for her role in The Age of Innocence. Recently, however, she was seen as a has-been who was more recognized for her personal troubles than her work as an actress. At least she still looks like she’s 20!
It looks like Ryder is about to have a comeback. According to Hollywood Insider, Ryder beat out people like Kate Beckinsale and Uma Thurman for the leading role in Ron Howard’s new film starring Vince Vaughn and Kevin James. Ryder will play James’ wife in the comedy which begins shooting in May.
Months ago we told you that Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis were cast as the leads in the Darren Aronofsky film Black Swan, and now we’ve got a few more actors to throw into the mix.
