Basketball fans watching the Bulls-Hornets game in New Orleans on Wednesday night got something of a surprise—and I’m not talking about the Bulls’ bruising 90-67 win. No, apparently Will Ferrell, who is in New Orleans shooting a movie, was on hand to make a series of announcement before the game, mocking a handful of the players, accusing one of still living with his mother, insisting another speaks not a bit of English, and that one Italian player refuses to eat Italian food. Ferrell is currently in New Orleans shooting the film Dog Fight with Dylan McDermott and Zach Galifianakis (who both attended the game with Ferrell). And before the 80s Night-themed game at the New Orleans Arena began, Ferrell was asked to perform the introductions for both teams—which he did in typical Will Ferrell style. The comedic actor introduced 6-foot-9, 266-pound Bulls forward Carlos Boozer as a man who “still lives with his mother,” while he insisted that New Orleans guard Marco Belinelli “hates Italian food.”

Afterwards, Boozer said there were no hard feelings, “we’re all Will Ferrell fans – one of the funniest dudes of our generation, man.”

Interview: Will Ferrell for Everything Must Go

This week in theaters Will Ferrell explores his more serious side in director Dan Rush‘s adaptation of Raymond Carver’s short story, Everything Must Go. In the film, Ferrell shows us that he’s capable of an extraordinarily subtle and poignant performance with very few moments of dark humor. This was very much a labor of love for Ferrell who stepped onto the quick 23 day shoot in an attempt to do something new. Will, it seems like a lot of your choices lately between this and “The Office” have been rather dark — is there something behind this?

Will Ferrell: My blue period. Officially. [Laughs] Dianglo is pretend dark and Nick is real life dark.

Were you looking for characters that were a little bit more layered or intense??

Ferrell: No, I mean with “The Office” I just left it up to that writing staff to create whatever they wanted to create and that’s just what they chose. In terms of this film, this whole process probably started about two years ago when I met Dan and read the script. Regardless of whether it was darker or this or that, it was just such a unique project and a new challenge for me, which is something I really wanted to try.

How did you and CJ (Christopher Jordan Wallace) develop your relationship?

Ferrell: I think that’s a credit to how good CJ is because we didn’t have a lot of time together before we started filming, we didn’t have that luxury. We rehearsed a little bit but it’s kind of what we saw in auditioning Christopher, it seemed like he was already so grounded and mature in a way that would help us. Because a lot of the scenes that we have in the film were maybe, 3, 4, 5 takes at the most. We didn’t have the luxury of time or film stock and we had all these forces going against us. We just had to make sure that we had someone that could just start at level 10 on take one and he could do that.

Did having a small set help in bonding?

Ferrell: Yeah, Between takes we would just have to sit out in front of this house, while they re-arranged the set for a different part of the movie. And that was where we spent the most time getting to know one another.

How would you describe, the never quite defined relationship between Rebecca Hall’s character and yours?

Ferrell: That was another thing that I loved about this script. Here was this relationship that normally, in a typical Hollywood movie they would fall in love and it feels like it’s maybe getting to that edge, but in a very real way, it never really crosses that line. It’s almost symbolic of that dance at the end of the film. It really is a dance of them consoling each other, helping each other, being critical of each other too, and yet they don’t cross that line of intimacy, yet there is something intimate going on between them. I just though that was masterfully done on a script level and we tried to just be true to that.

This film deals a lot with alcoholism, what were some of the challenges of realistically showing the disease and playing it for comedy but as part of a character?

Ferrell: I’m getting asked the question were their moment that you attempted to make “funny”? I don’t think you can sit down and begin to read a piece of material like this and start ear-marking it like “ah! This would be funny. I should bark on myself here. I know how to spice that up.” It’s evident from the beginning what the tone’s going to be and that’s where you put your mind and you think of it as a serious piece. And when talking about playing the “drink” we were very cognizant of avoiding any false moments. We wanted to comedy to just happen organically and never feel forced or pushed.

Do you have any items that you cannot let go of?

Ferrell: [Jokingly] My speedboat. I had a beer bottle collection, but I got rid of it.

What’s the hardest part in getting this film made? Getting it going, making it or promoting?

Ferrell: All of it! Check, check, check!

What’s next for you?

Ferrell: Next, I’m doing to shoot in the fall, a film with Zach Galifianakis, where we play rival Southern politicians in a small congressional district in South Carolina. That we’ll release for the election season next year, which kind of comments on the circus that is now, modern day politics.

Anchorman 2?

Ferrell: You really have to assert some sort of e-mail hate campaign to Paramount Pictures because they have told us “they have run the numbers, and it’s not a good fit.”

Was it ever intended to really be a musical?

Ferrell: Yeah that was our idea. We were going to actually do it in reverse, almost like a Marx Brothers, we were going to do a Broadway musical and then have the film come out after the stage show. Everyone that we tell the idea loves it, except for the studio, which owns the rights. So balls in their court, but they’re being idiots.

What we can agree on! Though I was surprised to hear him say anything that like, it’s refreshing to see Ferrell take such a risk with this film, the way that he speaks out and continue to keep fighting for films, big or small, that he believes in.

The Office: Season 7 Episode 22: The Inner Circle – TV Review

Can “The Office” survive without Steve Carell? That’s been the question on everyone’s mind, from fans of the show to the execs who have a vested economic interest in its success. Well, while we can’t pretend that last night’s episode was extraordinary, we can say that from what we’ve seen, there might just be some life left in this series. Take a glance at our review to see how we felt…

Episode Title: “The Inner Circle”

With Michael out of the picture, Deangelo takes control of the office. At first, he appears to be an ideal boss, treating his employees to perks that were unheard of in the days of Michael Scott. However, it quickly becomes clear that not only is Denagelo dangerously incompetent, he is also something of a sexist. Torn between loyalty to his principles and the desire to remain employed, Jim finds himself in a difficult situation.

The Good:

Will Ferrell: When does Will Ferrell not deliver the comedy goods? While his style is anything but subtle, he’s always willing to make a fool out of himself for the laughs, and it is hard not to respect a performer who won’t let ego get in the way of entertainment. Sure, this week’s episode of “The Office” wasn’t his grand opus, but whether he’s juggling with invisible equipment or simply scaring Jim out of his office with little more than a disapproving glare, he’s bringing the funny. He’s not Steve Carell, but the creative team behind this series knows–for now, at least–that to try to find someone to play that same role would be futile.
Mindy Kaling: Speaking of performers who are willing to go all out for the sake of the comedy, well, Mindy Kaling has been a consistent force of nature on this show. In front of the camera, she is willing to portray a character who is about as likeable as the girls on “My Super Sweet 16.” Behind it, she is a fantastic writer who has played a major role in some of the show’s best episodes. She isn’t given too much to do this episode, but when she responds to Ryan’s assertion that he would die for her with a heartfelt “Really?”, it’s difficult to not give her credit.

The So-So:

Ending: Upon injuring himself while attempting a less-than-impressive basketball stunt, Deangelo returns to the office a little worse for wear. This may be the one moment in the episode when Will Ferrell strays a little too far into the absurd realm he’s often most comfortable in, taking the performance in an over-the-top direction that isn’t in keeping with the overall tone of the show. It’s kind of funny, but hard to find believable.
Jim: Jim, as we know, always has his heart in the right place, but c’mon, let’s be real here: having your heart in the right place often makes you boring. He’s rarely been the comedic powerhouse of the show, but that is especially evident in this episode, when he’s put in a tough spot and doesn’t do too much to keep us entertained. With a limited amount of time to make an audience laugh, the writers should avoid wasting moments on subplots that don’t add much in the way of humor.
New girl in town: In an effort to prove that he is no sexist, Deangelo hires a pretty young woman to take on a major role in the office. Now, we understand that the point of her character is to be boring and useless, but that doesn’t make up for the fact that it is rarely engaging to watch someone who is boring and useless. Seems like there was a missed opportunity for some comedy here.

Overall:

Did it blow our mind and makes us want to rush to sleep so we could fast forward to the time tomorrow when we can discuss the episode at the water cooler? Nah, not quite. But for a half hour’s worth of entertainment, it was still decent fun, and given that this is the first episode with Steve Carell nowhere in sight, we’re relieved to say that the show can still deliver the goods without him. There’s a lot of talent in this cast and crew, and everyone deserves a chance to shine.

Rating: 6.5/10

Well, it’s all been building up to this. With word that Steve Carell’s tenure on “The Office” was up, fans have been sadly counting down the days until his departure. This week brought us the last Michael Scott episode ever, and seeing as he’s always been the show’s central character, it goes without saying that it was a big night. But did the episode live up to our expectations? Read the review to find out…

Episode Title: “Goodbye, Michael”

The seventh season of “The Office” comes to its climax this week as Michael Scott finally leaves for good. However, he opts not to reveal the full truth to his employees, telling them he still has one more day left when he is indeed heading out forever at 4 PM. In the meantime, Gabe does his best to earn back Erin’s affections, and Andy is exposed to Deangelo’s “unconventional” sales techniques.

The Good:

Will Ferrell: As per usual, Will Ferrell brings the comedy to anything he touches. While he tones down his traditionally zany qualities, he still stands out as the most absurd character in the crowd–which is saying a lot, when you consider the kinds of characters that have been on this show. Who else could yell at a cake? Will Ferrell pulls it off.
Toby’s cousin: Toby mentions that he has a cousin, Rory, in Boulder. Fortunately, we get to catch a glimpse of said cousin, and he is exactly the kind of person Toby would be related to. “Does Michael like jam? Because my apartment is overflowing with preserves.”
Addressing the camera: It is easy to forget that “The Office” is meant to be a faux-documentary, since each episode breaks all of the rules that would make that possible. Still, given the fact that Michael was leaving this week, it was a little bittersweet to be reminded of the beginings of the series, when the documentary format was alluded to more directly. When Michael finally takes off that microphone, it definitely becomes real.
Gabe: As the by-the-books new guy, Gabe is rarely given the opportunity to be as outlandish as the other characters. However, this week, we get to see a side of him we’re not used to, a side unleashed by his recent heartbreak. Thankfully, it works. When he warns Andy that he owns more than two hundred horror films, it definitely scores a laugh.

The So-So:

Emotional Effects: As the final appearance of the iconic Michael Scott, we expected this episode to be a little more effective on an emotional level. While it doesn’t exactly leave us cold, it doesn’t succeed in eliciting the kind of reaction that it was clearly aiming for. Overall, we were underwhelmed.
Low on Laughs: Once again, given the importance of this week’s episode, we expected everyone involved to bring their A-game, but the writing was fairly stale and the laughs weren’t as strong as we would have liked. Granted, it’s tough to balance genuine emotion with humor, but that’s something that “The Office” has usually been pretty good at. There were some jokes that worked, but none that were particularly memorable.

The Bad:

Checklist: Michael makes it a point to say goodbye to everyone one last time, and while that allows him to spend time with each character, it didn’t give him an opportunity to have too many strong emotional (or humorous, for that matter) moments with anyone. Aside from an impromptu paintball game with Dwight and a nice talk with Jim, his interactions with everyone else felt rushed.

Overall:

We’re sad to say it, but we were fairly disappointed with this episode. What was meant to be an instant classic ended up being fairly boring and uninteresting. Sure, it wasn’t terrible, but for an event like this, we should have the strongest episode of the season. Instead, we got something nearly forgettable.

The Office: Season 7 Episode 19: Training Day – TV Review

“The Office” welcomes one of the biggest guest stars it has ever had this week to distract us from the fact that one of the key ingredients in the success of the show–Steve Carell–won’t be sticking around much longer. Well, for what it’s worth, the distraction succeeded. As it turns out, Will Ferrell is pretty funny. Who would have guessed?

The Players:

Episode Title: “Training Day”

Michael initially welcomes his replacement, Deangelo Vickers, with open arms, but begins to feel some animosity towards the man when others in the office express their admiration for him and when Vickers’s managerial style conflicts with Michael’s. Andy struggles to amuse his new boss, Jim and Pam worry that they’ve started off on the wrong foot with him, and Dwight makes it very clear that he would have preferred to take over the position.

The Good:

Will Ferrell: As is to be expected, Will Ferrell delivers the laughs as the new boss in town. While credit must be given to the writer–lines like “everyone I know who has ever gone skiing is dead” are just absurd enough to work–Ferrell’s deadpan delivery is pitch-perfect. Known for going over-the-top in ways that would make Jack Nicholson look subtle, it is fun to be reminded that Will Ferrell can be as hilarious playing a role with a straight face as he is when he’s in full-on Ricky Bobby mode.
Keeping it funny: With Michael soon to leave the show, you could be forgiven for fearing that the series would begin to take on a more reflective (aka “less entertaining”) tone during his final episodes. Fortunately, everyone involved seems to know that we primarily go to “The Office” for laughs, and that is what we got this week. We”l save our tears for “Grey’s Anatomy” or something like that.
Darryl: Darryl tends to be such a confident character that it was funny to see him eager to impress Vickers, behaving like a nervous middle-school student who isn’t sure if he sounded like a nerd in front of his crush. “That’s one of my favorite regions; I sounded so lame, didn’t I?”
Andy: If Darryl was making some poor attempts to impress his boss, Andy was going for broke. It turns out that Vickers is a fan of the same kind of comedy that babies find clever: people being physically hurt. Andy takes full advantage of this, going so far as to spill hot coffee on his own crotch. It shouldn’t be funny, but given the context, it worked a lot more than we would expect.

The So-So:

Kevin’s wig: One of the running gags throughout the episode was the fact that Kevin was sporting a wig. While the writer did manage to pull one good line out of the situation (“Is that Ashton Kutcher? No, it’s Kevin. Equally handsome, equally smart”) it more or less seemed like a wasted joke, as it didn’t exactly develop into anything funnier as the episode progressed.
Dwight: We all knew that Dwight would be disappointed with the fact that he wasn’t awarded the job of Office Manager, but predcitability isn’t such a terrible thing if the writer can find a funny way to approach the situation. Sadly, such was not the case this episode. With Dwight involved, we expected there to be a little more humor going on in this subplot.

The Bad:

Jim and Pam: Like everyone else, they do their best to get along with Vickers, but he isn’t all that interested in hearing about their baby. Which should be a reasonably funny scenario, but just doesn’t seem to work all that well here. It feels as if someone began to tell a potentially funny joke, but paused right before getting to the punchline. (Although Vickers’s final line of the episode in regards to the baby was pretty good, we’ll admit.)

Overall:

We were all looking forward to seeing what Will Ferrell could bring to this already entertaining show, and he definitely delivered. He was easily the best element of last night’s episode, and it is a shame to think that he probably won’t be a permnanent cast member. Either way, this was vintage “The Office,” packed with enough laughs-per-minute to qualify it as one of the funniest sitcoms on TV.

Will Ferrell in Casa de mi Padre Trailer

Will Ferrell has talked about being in an all-Spanish Language film, but it was hard to know if he was doing a favor, or what exactly it would be. With the trailer for Casa de mi Padre (in English, “House of My Father”), it’s entirely a Will Ferrell movie. Also starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, it appears to be a take on the florid styles of Spanish soap operas, but done as a comedy. Take a look at the trailer…

This looks bananas. In many ways it reminds of what Danny McBride and company did with Your Highness, but played more for laughs. It’s produced by Will Ferrell’s company, and is directed by Matt Piedmont, who’s mostly done television work previous, and wrote for Ferrell during his time on “Saturday Night Live.”

This doesn’t appear to have a big studio attached at the moment, and that may have to do with the majority of the film being in Spanish. It would likely be just as funny if the film was dubbed by the actors back into English, but that joke may be too weird for those who just want to see Ferrell act silly. And – sadly – the Spanish language may be a barrier for some to enjoy what looks to be delicious absurdity.Regardless, we’ll be following this film.

Beastie Boys Fight For Your Right – Revisited Trailer Brings Out the A-Listers

There’s something to be said that only the Beastie Boys could bring out Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood, Jack Black, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, Ted Danson, Stanley Tucci, Susan Sarandon and many more famous people for what appears to be a very funny goof on the history of the Band. McBride, Wood and Rogen play younger versions of the band, with Reilly, Ferrell and Black the older iterations. How this all works out is unknown, but the trailer is here for Fight For Your Right – Revisited, and it is great. Check it out…

This is a short film written and directed by Beastie Boy Adam Yauch. It will come with their latest album Hot Sauce Committee Pt. 2, which hits stores and iTunes on 5/3. The premise is that it’s a sequel (as has been reported) to the Beastie Boys breakout video “Fight For Your Right to Party.”

With all the celebrities and cameos this could descend into navel-gazing nonsense if it goes too long or attempts too much, but with the sheer comedic talent involved, the likelihood of that is smaller than average.This trailer has everything, including Ferrell hitting a cowbell. It looks like inspired lunacy. Even if the B-Boys are middle-aged rappers in a genre of music that has yet to see many elder statesmen, the album should be worth getting for this.

Will Ferrell Joining NBC’s The Office…As a Temp

Earlier this month we discovered that Steve Carell and his alter ego Michael Scott won’t be around for the season finale of “The Office.” When he jumps ship there will still be four episodes left, which makes a lot of people wonder how the writers and producers will handle such a void. They’ll hire Will Ferrell that’s how!

According to EW, Ferrell has been hired to soften the blow that will come at the end of the season with Carell’s departure. This is a great way to cushion his absence and perk up the ratings as well. Carell and Ferrell will appear in three episodes together, followed by a solo one with only Ferrell.

This will be a great reunion for the two who previously co-starred in another little workplace comedy called Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy. Let’s just call Paul Rudd and really get this party started shall we? If they won’t give us a sequel, they can at least give us a taste of how great the movie could have been.

“We found Steve Carell when he was nothing but a movie star and we turned him into a television star,” says executive producer Paul Lieberstein. “We are proud to continue The Office‘s tradition of discovering famous talent, and we hope that once America gets a good look at Will, they’ll see what we see: tremendous raw sexuality.”

Sundance 2011: Beastie Boys ‘Fight for Your Right Revisited’ Review

Adam Yauch’s Fight for Your Right Revisited, featuring Elijah Wood, Danny McBride, Seth Rogen, Jack Black, Will Ferrell, and John C. Riley delivers big time. Just imagine every actor you can think of packed into a hilarious 30 minute music video. This is Hollywood the way I like to see it, poking fun at itself and reminding everyone that the very best actors are not only able to make you laugh, but they’re able to laugh at themselves.

Review:

This short takes place the morning after the party featured in the Beastie Boys original music video, Fight for Your Right in 1986 (watch it here). The film comes complete with cameos from a cast I couldn’t believe, including Susan Sarandon, Jason Schwartzman, Rainn Wilson, and Stanley Tucci, to name just a few. It’s almost as if Seth Rogen, Elijah Wood, and Will Ferrell just walked through the studio lot and grabbed any actors they happened to come across, and they came across a few, including Steve Buscemi and Kirsten Dunst. The film has the feel and tone of a long SNL music video skit that you never want to end, even after a metaphorical pissing contest turns into a literal pissing contest and Chloë Sevigny stabs someone.

This film accomplishes exactly what it sets out to do, and that is show amazing actors really playing with an idea and having fun with each other. The Beastie Boys have come a long way since 1986, and I think this parody is their way of saying they know how absurd and ridiculous they were back then and are inviting everyone to join them in laughing at it. Even if you aren’t a huge Beastie Boys fan, this is still going to make you laugh.

Overall:

When this thing hits the interwebs, it’ll go viral and you’ll be able to watch it over and over again. Believe me, you will want to.

Megamind: Movie Review

This week in theaters we have a new kind of superhero move hitting the big screen, Megamind — your friendly neighborhood villain! The film boosts some of the funniest voices in the business, Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, David Cross, Jonah Hill and of course the only “real” superhero is voiced by Brad Pitt. The movie uses 3D in the way it was meant to be used and has plenty of jokes for kids and adults.

The Plot:

Megamind the super villain of Metro City has defeated his arch nemesis Metro Man and has found himself with everything he’s ever dreamed of! Only to find out that having everything is rather boring. He tries to create another foe in the form of Titan, a young hero in training, but he ends up causing more problems than he solves. The film also features Fey as the female lead (the unconventional damsel in distress), a news reporter who’s keeping track of the hero-villain antics and in the end helps solve them.

The Good:

Original Idea: In a world where all superhero stories are made the same, Megamind is a twist on the usual conventions. It was refreshing to see some new ideas in a genre that seems to follow the same.
Voice-Over Cast: Sometimes having distinct voices takes away from a film, this time it added to it. Ferrell is like a chameleon with his voice and was able to use that to his advantage and create a number of entertaining characters while still keeping his signature Ferrell-ness; Tina Fey doing her reporter voice was perfect for the role; Jonah Hill and David Cross are both hysterical comedians whether you can see them or not; and finally Brad Pitt makes one damn good super-hero voice, which is cliched enough to fit in but also perfect for the twist that comes later.
The Message: As corny as it sounds it’s good to send out positive messages to young audiences. And following your heart and never letting the past define the future is always a good thing to implant in youngsters heads.
The Visuals: Normally 3D films are rather gimmicky but in this film they did a great job at fully utilizing the medium to its advantages. They didn’t over do the 3D but when they went for it, they went full force and certain scenes I would go as far as to say were actually beautifully made. It’s nice to see a kids-comedy paying attention to such details.

The Bad:

Lots of Plot: Although there are some good twists on the norm, there are a lot of plot lines and characters to keep track of, especially for the kids in the audience. Though the plots were not too hard for adults and older kids to follow the younger crowd seemed a little discontent. Since this was very obviously made it be a kids film it needs to keep their attention. And I can tell you from the wandering child in my aisle that by the second plot twist, they were done!

Overall:

This is a fun film and great for the kids as long as they’re not under the age of 6ish (yeah, I don’t have kids so take that with a grain of salt).

Rating: 7/10

This week Megamind hits theaters with a new twist on the old superhero tale! The film is led by some of funniest and most well known voices in the business; Will Ferrell, Tina Fey, David Cross and Brad Pitt. As you could have guessed Brad Pitt wasn’t able to attend the press conference because… well he’s Brad Pitt and him going outside let alone sitting in front of press might have caused the Four Seasons to crumble. But luckily for us the comedic trio,Will, Tina and David were in attendance along with the director of the film Tom McGrath.

As one could have guessed, this was a mixture of a press conference and a stand-up routine. Check out the madness below…

Will, you’re really leading this film. Was that exciting?

Will Ferrell: Well, let’s see. I don’t really consider myself front and center of this fine cast (looks behind him and sees a poster with his character front and center). Well… hmmm…I guess I am. I really haven’t done a lot of this stuff before. I love this premise, I felt it was so original. To get to be in a film with this cast is the most exciting part.

Will, it sounded like you’re working with a British-y accent, how did you decide on that?

Will Ferrell: You know, it’s so disappointing; it’s not your fault. I’m actually doing a Lithuanian accent. It just shows how bad of a mimic I am. But, no…it’s just the accent of someone who thinks they’re important. I’ve been working with Tom and we landed on that and thought it would be appropriate for this guy. When it comes down to it he’s just completely insecure.

Tom McGrath: Will took the idea that this guy wasn’t formally educated. He took that handle and I kind of ran with it. The comedy from this was always trying to be into its own world, coming from character. A couple things we did shine a light on was this character called “space dad”, who went from a kind of Tedd Kennedy to Marlon Brando. [Will] saw the design for this character and thought “I’d like to try a Marlon Brando, a lispy Marlon Brando,” and we were laughing so hard in the recording booth that we [screened it for] the crew and they were laughing so hard they didn’t even catch any of the dialogue, so we knew that was going to work for the movie.

Tina, you often playing a reporter…

Tina Fey: I am one of America’s fake reporters, so I am going to have a fake show on CNN. It was fun to step into this very archetypal Lois Lane type of character. I really like her in this story, she’s a modern version of that in that she’s active and intelligent, and looks like Sharon Osbourne.

Do you like the look of your character? And how was the experience recording rather than being in front of the camera?

Tina Fey: I really like how she looks, I like her short hair and I like that she’s brunette, and that she’s an ample cam, I’m not gonna lie to you. I like how she’s drawn. I found the recording sessions very freeing because you can really try things. If you’re filling something or improvising and wasting film or the camera man’s time… with this, when you’re recording stuff first, you can try different stuff and it doesn’t matter how you LOOK while you’re doing it…I found it very fun.

Tina, if you had to pick, which one would you go for, Megamind or Metroman?

Tina: I would go for Megamind because he’s very smart, and I really do find the purple under tones of his blue skin very attractive, I really do. I think he has beautiful, beautiful skin. And he’s smaller than me. I like that. I could beat him up.

Do any of you have a life-long nemesis that has pushed you?

Tina Fey: I don’t have a nemesis but I have a series of hundreds of small enemies. Everyone I meet I assume is out to get me and that fuels my fire.

Will Ferrell: My nemesis prior to this working experience oddly enough was David Cross, but through this process we were able to hash that out.

David Cross: I’m not there.

Will Ferrell: Well I am. Whenever you’re ready.

Will, did you children have any impact on your signing on for this role?

Will Ferrell: This was just a decision based on wanting to try to do another animated movie and getting a chance to work with Tom and Dreamworks – my children were not consulted. Nor are they ever consulted about anything. It’s a very strict household!

Tina Fey: They speak when spoken to!

Will Ferrell: Yes! But they’ve seen some of the advertisements and trailers and I think they’re intrigued by the fact that I do the voice of this guy with the blue head.

Tina, do you think the Sarah Palin ghost continue to chase you?

Tina Fey: There’s a ghost!?! I think it was one of the luckiest things that’s ever happened to me. I’m going to MILK that. I’ll be doing that, God willing, til I’m 70 years old in a used car lot.

Tina and Will, what do you think Palin and Bush would have to say is they came across Megamind?

Tina Fey: He needs to be destroyed!

Will Ferrell: Right.

Tina Fey: He’s a danger to freedom!

Will Ferrell: I think he would think he looks funny. “That guy looks funny!” He’d probably say something like that.

You’re all quite famous, any chance of you retreating into obscurity eventually?

Tina Fey: I think I oughta be escorted back by security pretty soon, I don’t think it’ll be a retreat, it’ll be a police escort.

Will Ferrell: I don’t really think about those things.

David Cross: I think that’s a question for Brad.

Will Ferrell: That would be a great question for Brad.

Davis Cross: Who ironically isn’t here, which I think speaks volumes…

Will Ferrell: Amen

You’re all comedians, aside from Brad, so I imagine there was a lot of improvisation?

Tina Fey: Tom really encourages to improvise, Will and I were lucky that we go to do sessions together. Tom was very welcoming with it.

Tom McGrath: That’s why we have the cast we do, to be partners and collaborators. 30% of what you hear in the scene is improvised in ways where not only are they great actors and great writers as well, so we come in with our lines – the script was very well thought out but on a scene by scene basis we get 3 outs for every line that was much funnier than what was written.

This is a very original story with many side-plots, what would you define as your central theme and the message of the film?

Tom McGrath: Here, it’s about good and evil and what makes us who we are and whether we choose a path of good or evil – or do we believe it’s destiny. I think the main thing to take away is no matter how much you strip your own life of wrong decisions you make, it’s never too late to do the right thing and change your ways. You can’t teach old dogs new tricks.

Will Ferrell Breaks Superhero World Record

Will Ferrell has gone above and beyond to promote his latest film Megamind. The animated feature about the world’s worst evil villain stars him, Brad Pitt, and Jonah Hill as three heroes on opposite sides of the spectrum. In order to spread the word about the movie, the actor announced a call to arms in Los Angeles. He wanted to break the Guinness world record for the most costumed heroes, in the same place at the same time, and guess what? He did it!

Apparently, there was already a record in this category with 1500 people having done it in the past. To break it Ferrell had to gather 1501 costumed heroes. According to the Guinness officials he went well over that number and managed to amass 1580 eligible participants.

You and you alone have broken the Guinness Book of World Records today, right now, and everyone in a Spiderman outfit wins a new car! No? Oh okay, I was mistaken,” Ferrell said. It’s very impressive that people would come out and have a great time and it’s a great kick-off for the movie,” Ferrell added.

The actor made a grand entrance at the Nokia Plaza in downtown L.A. when he announced the big news. Unlike everyone else, he wasn’t dressed as a hero, instead he wore a suit. Boo!

We wonder what the other rules to the competition were because we’re pretty sure way more than 1500 people dress as heroes at Comic-Con every year. Maybe it was excluded for obvious reasons.
