There are some film adaptations that I hope die and never see the end of the development process, and undoubtedly He-Man is one of them. We reported earlier on how there was a live action adaptation in the works for the vintage comic and cartoon character, but at the time a writer hadn’t been found. So what did the studio do? They wrangled somebody in to try and add a life to this thing. According to THR, Warner Brothers and Silver Pictures have hired a writer, newcomer Evan Daugherty.

It’s time for more Japanese manga to be adapted to the big screen. For some odd reason anime and manga scripts have been getting picked up left and right by some pretty big studios. According to Variety, we can confirm that one of the names on that list is Warner Brothers. They recently picked up the film rights to the popular manga entitled Death Note, and are looking to make it into a live action feature.

When a studio wants an epic tent pole project they either go sci-fi, Biblical, or Greco-Roman. In this case we’re putting on our togas and heading on over to Greece. A huge bidding war between studios took place to gain the rights over Odysseus, a script written by Ann Peacock. According to THR, Warner Brothers won the rights to produce and distribute the film over it’s competitor Paramount. A director has already been hired, and the film will be co-produced by Hollywood Gang Productions.

Somehow, a rumor was started that Star Trek’s Chris Pine was to star as Hal Jordan in Warner Brothers’ The Green Lantern. That rumor has been officially squashed, well at least for now. In an interview with MTV, Pine was very clear about his involvement with the movie. Pine stated, “No, I had a meeting with [casting director] Pam Dixon and [executive producer] Donald De Line, but a meeting was all it was.” Pine further stated, ”I have not been offered squat. I do not have the part and haven’t read a script.” There you have it. He could be lying about it just to surprise everyone, but that seems like a little bit far-fetched.
Interestingly enough, he doesn’t seem too excited nor determined to play the part.
Pine stated in the interview:

Let me preface this story by saying I am in no way trying to viciously attack Watchmen. I’m just informing you of the information that I’ve learned. With that being said, according to IESB Warner Brothers is beginning to rethink the importance of the MPAA ratings for their tent pole films. After the underwhelming box office performance of this month’s Watchmen, the studio is looking to cut down on big budget R rated material. This would effect several 2009 releases that are still awaiting their ratings approval including this summer’s Terminator Salvation.

It looks as if someone’s decided to take a risk and invest in Mel Gibson’ s career again. Last November Gibson wrapped a project entitled Edge of Darkness, which he shot with Ray Winstone and Danny Huston. For months the film has been looking for a distribution home, and finally it’s found one. According to Variety, Warner Brothers has decided to take the plunge and has acquired the rights to the film. The feature is based on the BBC miniseries of the same name, which”centered on a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Dept, whose only child is murdered on the steps of his home.”
