It’s called For Colored Girls and it’s based on the award winning stage play by Ntozake Shange entitled For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. This is the first feature film that Perry has directed that’s not based on his own original material. In honor of this career milestone we’re conducting a giveaway! After her subdued performance in Precious, we thought Mariah Carey was ready and willing to do whatever she had to for us to forget her “masterpiece” Glitter. Her next positive step would have been Tyler Perry’s upcoming feature film For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf. It’s the first movie he’ll direct that’s based on someone else’s material and the cast he’s acquired is filled with legends from both the film and music world, but unfortunately Carey will no longer be a part of it.

A new trailer has been released for the critically acclaimed film, Precious: Based on the Novel “Push” by Sapphire. The drama has gained momentum as an early awards season contender thanks to its various screenings on the festival circuit. Seriously? Tyler Perry’s I Can Do Bad All By Myself? What were you thinking? Was is really that good/dramatic/funny? I see that name and think, straight-to-DVD release, yet somehow it manages to gross over $24 million? If only I ruled the box…
Aside for that, the big surprise at the box office was first time director, Shane Acker‘s film 9 which managed to come in at number two at the box office despite the fact that it was a 72 minute animated film that should have been at least 90 minutes. We’ll see how that one does over the next couple of weeks.
