Bad news for those of you who loved the music in The Fighter, Black Swan, The Kids Are All Right, and True Grit. All four films have been disqualified for next year’s Academy Awards. The Coen Brothers‘ latest film True Grit will be the opening feature at the 61st Berlin International Film Festival. The movie debuts in U.S. theaters on December 22, but the folks overseas won’t get their first taste of it until the new year. According to Berlinale.de, the film will premiere at the festival on February 11, 2011.

The film is an adaptation of the novel from Charles Portis of the same name, and not so much a remake of the 1969 feature which won John Wayne his long awaited Oscar. Earlier this week, we were blown away by the amazing first trailer for Joel and Ethan Coen’s True Grit. The film is an adaptation of the popular novel of the same name that was made famous by the 1969 Henry Hathaway movie. To keep the promotion afloat a poster has been released and it’s all text and no stars. We guess they want us to focus on the content and not the actors. There’s also an update regarding the follow up trailer that will feature more extended footage from the film.
