Where has Barry Pepper been for the past few years? Lately he’s been doing a lot of smaller films but I miss seeing him act out “grittier” material. It’s a new decade and he’s about make a return to the big screen with a role in the Coen Brothers‘ upcoming film, True Grit. According to Variety, the actor has landed a supporting part in the remake that will have him taking on a classic character that he has a lot in common with.

Coen Brothers Decide to Adapt True Grit

truegrit09 3 23 Coen Brothers Decide to Adapt True Grit

Joel and Ethan Coen are doubling down. Not only are the remaking a film, they’re remaking a remake of the Charles Portis book “True Grit” (try to follow that after a few cocktails). The original adaptation came out in 1968 and won John Wayne an Oscar and co-starred Robert Duvall, Glen Campbell, Kim Darby, and Dennis Hopper. Needless to say, they have some big shoes to fill if they want to tackle this beast.

Apparently, The Coen’s didn’t like the original adaptation of the book, and think that they can do one better with their own spin. They will once again be teaming up with producer Scott Rudin, who partnered with them in No Country for Old Men, so I doubt it’s going to be your average remake.

I’m not sure how I feel about them messing with a classic, but one thing is for sure, it’s going to be a hard to find a set of modern actors to come up with half the talent of the original cast.
