Paramount Pictures is toying with the idea of producing the next and hopefully final sequel in the Transformers franchise in 3D. This shouldn’t come as a shock because the idea has popped up before, and as of late Hollywood has been on 3D overload. According to a recent article in Variety, director Michael Bay and the studio have been meeting with a major special effects company to discuss the possibility.

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen made a boatload of money at the U.S. and international box office even though it was critically panned. It’s fair to say the majority of its profits derived from the fanbase that was created by the first film. We were all tricked into thinking that we’d see another great action movie with a simple story but we were wrong. Director Michael Bay wants to make up for the lackluster sequel, by taking the third film back to its roots.

After watching the visual cancer that was Transformers Revenge of the Fallen, it’s easy to wonder where it all went wrong. The first film was pretty decent, and had the central story of a boy and his car, the sequel centered on…what? That’s the question a lot of people left the theater wondering, what was it all about? Director Michael Bay must have taken the complaints to heart, because in the third film he wants less action and more story.

Just like at the box office, it seems every other movie is scared of Transformers: ROTF because it’s the only feature film of any kind exploding onto shelves this week. And if Michael Bay has anything to say about it, it may actually explode…literally.
Luckily, those with taste have plenty of TV on DVD to hold them over and the classic Planes, Trains and Automobiles, which has finally received the full-on DVD treatment. For those who lack taste, they can move on from shiny robots and go for one of the three worst DVDs of the week.

Last week, Michael Bay informed the world that he would be returning to helm the third installment of the Transformers franchise. The film is scheduled for a July 2011 release, and will feature the return of Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox in their respective roles. As for who won’t be returning, co-writers Alex Kurtzman and Robert Orci have opted against writing duties for the third film.

It took a long time for me to get the disturbing taste of Revenge of the Fallen out of my mouth, and now I have to brace myself for its follow up.
