A pretty solid week on DVD as nearly half-a-dozen honest-to-goodness features are immortalized in shiny-disced brilliance including, by my math, the first 2010 wide releases to appear on DVD! Congratulations, Leap Year and Tooth Fairy, the dubious honor is yours!
The rest of the releases are led by Nine, that movie that you heard a lot about last year until it actually came out and then seemed non-existent as well as Tetro, Francis Ford Coppola’s new film that you meant to see.

Who wants to see a movie? Unfortunately, this week’s not looking too good in terms of new releases. The three major films debuting are Legion, Tooth Fairy, and Extraordinary Measures. Tooth Fairy is the latest Disney movie starring Dwayne Johnson as a badass hockey player. Legion stars Paul Bettany as Micheal the Archangel who decides to save an unborn child, who will in turn save humanity, and Extraordinary Measures stars Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser as a father and a doctor working together to find a cure for a rare genetic disorder. If you’re up for some more eclectic fare, the French film The Girl on the Train with Catherine Deneuve is apparently worthwhile.

If you told me ten years ago that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson would sport a pink tutu, and fairy wings I would have called you insane. But that’s exactly what’s happens in Tooth Fairy, a family comedy that stars Johnson as the fabled creature who takes children’s teeth and leaves them money under their pillow. The film is directed by Michael Lembeck and he literally places Johnson in the land of fairies and forces him to act out every children’s fantasy known to man. It may be a joy for the kids but it turns out to be a nightmare for the adults…

This Friday, Dwayne Johnson will once again appear in a family friendly film that’s a mix of fantasy and reality. His latest is entitled Tooth Fairy, and it implies everything that’s associated with the name. The uber-masculine Johnson will don that tight spandex suit, with the matching wings, and even the fairy dust. The actor takes on the legacy of the mystical creature with the help of screen legend Julie Andrews, and actor, writer, and director Stephen Merchant.
Tooth Fairy is directed by Michael Lembeck who’s put together an amazing cast to tell a simply story about having faith in spite of life’s harsh realities. On the surface it’s a comedy, but there’s a deeper meaning underneath all the jokes and glitter. We had the opportunity to speak to Johnson about working with not only Andrews, but Billy Crystal, and Seth McFarlane on the film. He also discussed why wearing a tutu didn’t bruise his ego, and how making the Tooth Fairy was a dream come true…

Prepare yourself for a few painful minutes of video watching. A trailer has been released for Dwayne Johnson‘s upcoming family comedy, The Tooth Fairy. Last week we brought you the poster for the film that scared me and many of our reader sh*tless. It featured Johnson with wings and ice skates, so you can understand the terror factor. Now that the trailer has been released, it adds a whole other level of weirdness thanks to the use of powder blue spandex and fairy dust.

What the hell is going on? Is Dwayne Johnson setting himself up to be a family friendly actor for the rest of his career? There’s nothing wrong with that, but he has potential to be so much more. Imagine my confusion and sadness when I came across a poster for his upcoming film, The Tooth Fairy. It’s another feature that will have the actor starring alongside a group of children, who will magically help better his character in a profound way.
