The Dark Knight Rises Teases More Photos and Info

As we wait impatiently for the new Batman film The Dark Knight Rises, Entertainment Weekly has a cover story on the film – which is still deep in post-production – and Christopher Nolan is repeating what has been the modus operandi with the movie since day one: This is his last Batman film no if’s, and’s or huge paychecks. Check out a quote from Christopher Nolan and the new pictures of Christian Bale, Gary Oldman and Tom Hardy…

Here’s Nolan’s non-response to the Bane controversy:

“I think when people see the film, things will come into focus,”

Ha. Entertainment Weekly has a number of stories already online, but this is definitely meant to sell to the collectors who still buy comic books etc. Nolan also speaks to his possible use of the Occupy Wall Street protests and the film’s return to the Bat-cave in their interviews. Here’s the latest pictures from the magazine:

The Dark Knight Rises hits theaters July 20, 2012, and that’s a ways away, but Warner Brothers is obviously giving the film the full court press in terms of awareness and hype. At this point there’s really only two films that can claim the mantle for the most anticipated of the year: this and The Hobbit. But where Peter Jackson‘s return to the Shire has some interesting question marks attached (two films out of the shortest book of the series?), the only worry here is that Nolan sticks the landing.

Conan O’Brien Can’t Understand Bane in The Dark Knight Rises

For those who’ve been following The Dark Knight Rises and the Bane controversy, there’s been back and forth recently about changing audio to make Tom Hardy‘s character slightly more understandable. Some said the audio was remixed, while recently the studio has said nothing was touched. Until the film comes out, it’s likely this will be a big question about the film. Thankfully Conan O’Brien is on top of it and has exposed the problem.

Conan says he saw the footage, and supports the fans who can’t understand a lick of what Bane says, and wanted to show that through a clip from the film. Here then is an exclusive clip from Conan O’Brien’s show that offers even more dialogue and more time with the character of Bane:

We’re months away from the film,and this has surely been brought to Christopher Nolan‘s attention. The question is: how much will be changed? Inception was a huge hit for Nolan and Warner Brothers, and The Dark Knight made a billion worldwide. So Nolan has some power to do what he want, but perhaps up to a point. With the film film nowhere near completion the sound mix hasn’t been finalized, and fanboys are known for their ability to turn mountains into molehills, but this isn’t just a nerd discussion any more. If Conan’s mocking it, it’s mainstream.

The Dark Knight Rises Full Trailer

This weekend, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol premiered the opening sequence of Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises, and offered the film’s theatrical trailer. Currently the opening sequence is still only in certain Imax theaters, but the trailer is now online, and offers glimpses at new cast members Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, along with returning cast members Gary Oldman, Christian Bale and Michael Caine. Check it out…

The main thing to take away from this trailer is that if the marketing department is saying “the legend ends” then this is the end of ride for Nolan and Bale in their take on the material. Of course that could all change five years from now, but I wouldn’t count on it.

You can also find the trailer on Apple, though there’s been some issues with getting the right trailer to play on certain computers. There is definitely scale, but the outside fighting and sports game stuff is a little weird for the universe. Though Nolan has improved dramatically with action scenes since taking on Batman, large scale fighting is still the weakest elements of these films. But if you saw the Imax footage, there’s no doubt that Nolan is using the Imax camera and scale to his advantage. We’ll see how it all shakes out July 20, 2012.

Christopher Nolan Releases ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ Opening Scene

Well, this should whip the fanboys into a frenzy—last night in Los Angeles, Warner Bros. and Christopher Nolan screened the first eight minutes of the wildly anticipated The Dark Knight Rises to an audience of entertainment press. I’ll keep the spoilers at bay until after the jump, but suffice to say, the character of Bane is given a highly memorable entrance. UPDATE: Nolan will be screening the intro in various locations around the world next week; find the screening dates/locations here!

The opening 7-8 minutes of the film apparently begin with the funeral of Harvey Dent, and then leap forward show the CIA capturing Bane, followed by the villain’s insane mid-air escape from an airplane. Most reports from attendees state that the intro is brilliant save for one small detail—apparently it is impossible to understand what Tom Hardy is saying as Bane. Between his English accent and facemask, he’s all but unintelligible. Check out a full synopsis of the intro from a viewer below:

Ice. Cold. Crystalized imagery and a very familiar logo of a Bat.
Jim Gordon at Harvey Dents funeral gives a eulogy, a few words about
inspiring others…
CUT—
An unnamed mountainous region.
A jeep rides along the landscape. Hooded men in the back of a jeep are
driven to a small plane… the jeep is met by an armed CIA agent who
takes into custody a political VIP, who is traveling with these hooded
men… or is he? The CIA Douche learns that one of the hooded men is
BANE?!
The hooded men, along with the political VIP are loaded onto the plane.
The plane takes to the air as the CIA douchebag interrogates those
taken on board. One of the hooded men is dangled outside the plane and
questioned/threatened and when the CIA agent doesn’t get what he
wants, he fires his weapon (next to the hooded man’s ear, he is not
killed) and then begins to question the other hooded man. That hooded
man is unmasked and revealed to be… Bane!
CIA DOUCHE: Was it your plan all along to be captured?
Suddenly, a much larger plane overtakes the smaller plane occupied by
CIA Douche, Bane and hostages. Operatives from the larger plane
descend onto the smaller one–
Bane in all his Ventilator glory is revealed….CIA DOUCHE: If I take
this off, will you die?BANE: No. But I will be in a lot of pain.
BAM!
Operatives from the larger plane fire upon the interior of the plane
interrupting the interrogation.
The larger plane has ahold of the smaller one as it pulls it by wires
throwing all the passengers downward in a disorienting fashion.
After quickly overtaking the plane, Bane’s operatives bring in a man
with inside a body bag. This man is dead or looks barely alive. Bane
then takes the VIP political prisoner and inserts a tube and transfers
blood from the body bag man. (It’s confusing as to why this is
important.)
AND THEN… in a scene that no words will be able to do justice, a
hole is cut from the smaller plane and a wire takes Bane and the VIP
politico through the rear of the plane as the smaller plane is ripped
apart and is destroyed while members of Bane’s team sacrifice their
lives going down with the small plane. (Again, it should be stressed,
this description pales to what you will actually see, it’s a true
spectacle.)
The chant can be heard at the end… Deh-Shay! Bah-Sah-Ra!
The scene is followed by a montage that includes many images we’ve
seen, the most striking includes the Bat-copter chasing down fatigued
Batmobiles down the streets of Gotham, and a final shocking image of
Bane tossing away a shattered and torn Batman mask into rubble…
The only complaint about the 7 minute prologue was echoed by all in
attendace: Bane’s dialog is very difficult to understand. Imagine
Darth Vader with a very thick accent. Hopefully this will be fixed in
the final film.
Overall this opening scene is confusing, epic, and will leave
audiences speechless. All in a good way.

So there you have it, spoiler fans: the confirmed 7-8 minute intro of The Dark Knight Rises. Now all you have to do is wait about 7-8 months to see the rest of the actual film! Happy waiting…

The Dark Knight Rises’ Christian Bale Reveals Catwoman And Bane Info

Shaping up to be the most anticipated film of 2012, The Dark Knight Rises has been shrouded in secrecy (that is, until last week, when Christopher Nolan finally let slip a few details about the film). What do we know about the film? Well, it takes place eight years after The Dark Knight, and features Bane and Catwoman at odds with Batman. Recently, Christian Bale slipped a few details about the villainous characters in an interview.

Talking to the Phillippine Daily Inquirer about his costars Anne Hathaway (Catwoman) and Tom Hardy (Bane), Bale let a few things slip—just enough for us fanboys to lose sleep trying to piece together into a cohesive plot summary (that probably won’t resemble the finished film at all—but hey, what are we supposed to do? Actually be patient until next summer? Ha!).

On Anne Hathaway’s Catwoman:

“I’m terrible at auditions, so I’m very impressed when somebody really seems to acquire an ownership of a character without having worked on it or prepared for some amount of time. I saw that in Anne…in many ways, she has the hardest job. There are a number of people who feel that the Catwoman role has been defined previously. So, I always saw Anne’s role as being the toughest job of any of us.”

On Tom Hardy’s Bane:

[Tom Hardy] “is a phenomenal actor. I like working with him a great deal. He goes the whole hog. I know that Bane has been seen in movies before. But, in my eyes, Tom is essentially creating Bane for the first time so there’s great freedom for him to be able to do so.”

There you have it—it’s not much, but it should be enough to keep those fanboy juices flowing until next summer… or at least until the trailer leaks.

Tom Hardy and Chris Pine fight for Reese Witherspoon in This Means War Trailer

The premise of This Means War is stupidly irresistable. Chris Pine and Tom Hardy play secret agents. Both end up dating Reese Witherspoon. She seems to be a normal girl, but their interest gets so heightened that they use their spy tools on each other. Director McG may have a real winner on his hands. Check out the trailer…

This is high-concept filmmaking at its most psuedo-Jerry Bruckheimer. Fifteen ago Tony Scott would have directed it with Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. Now we get the slightly cheaper version, but I’ll say this for the trailer: it’s got the scale it needs.

the biggest question this film raises is that Hollywood is not entirely sure what constitutes a starlet any more. I can’t imagine this picture with Katherine Heigl (who’s entered into a genre ghetto at this point), but Witherspoon strikes as being older than the normal casting in a picture like this, and looks to have a couple years on her co-stars. In and of itself that’s a good thing, it’s nice to see Hollywood isn’t afraid of a leading lady who isn’t fresh out of college, but it also suggests there’s no new Reese Witherspoon. Who is her younger equal in terms of comediennes? This Means War opens February 17, 2012.

Environmentally Friendly The Dark Knight Rises Teaser Recycles Footage

with Harry Potter’s conclusion out of the way, is there another film more highly anticipated than The Dark Knight Rises? Even Peter Jackson‘s Hobbit films don’t have the same heat on them. The Dark Knight Rises is due July 20112, and perhaps with Comic-con drawing close, we finally have a teaser for what appears to be Christopher Nolan‘s last Batman movie. But it’s just a tease. Take a look.

So there’s a little Christian Bale and Tom Hardy, a lot more Gary Oldman, and – mostly – shots from the first two films. As they are still shooting, it says very little, but it is effective. And don’t be surprised if some of this new footage didn’t end up in the film. The clear shot of Bane looks like it may just be something to tide fans over- it’s worth noting the teaser was made more than a year before the film is due out.

The most important detail is that this is the end. This is a farewell tour, and Nolan is not coming back until his career is so destroyed that that would be the only thing to get him out of director jail – even then he’d probably switch to teaching math over making more Batman. It’s hard to know what that means for the character’s fates, but it definitely raises the stakes – and we haven’t even met Anne Hathaway‘s Catwoman yet.

Tom Hardy Fights in Warrior Trailer

Post Inception, it looked as though Tom Hardy could become a big-time movie star. With Warrior -due September 9 - perhaps he may become one. He’s paired with Joel Edgerton, another of the class of 2010 who made a big impression in Animal Kingdom. Both are playing the children of Nick Nolte, in what looks to be a inspiration movie about fighting mixed martial arts. Take a look at the trailer…

Um, war vets, old grudges, broke teachers fighting to make a living, oh dear. Director Gavin O’Connor also directed Miracle, the fairly good story of America’s 1980 Olympic hockey team, but that was based on a true story. This does not look to be.

There’s nothing wrong with a good-come-from-behind, “I wonder who deserves to win more” underdog sports film, and generally these are films that work if you allow the cheese factor to settle in. And with these actors, it’s as if there isn’t talent in front of the camera. But the trailer seems to be selling some of the more melodramatic moments. Sylvester Stallone did this brilliantly in Rocky, and terribly in Over the Top - a film that taught us that “The world meets nobody halfway.”

The problem this movie is going to face is how it compares to The Fighter, which did this sort of narrative by trying to work around the genre’s more obvious elements. This is going the other way, it seems.

If you’ve been wondering where Tom Hardy has been hiding, he’s probably somewhere pumping iron for his role as Bane in Christopher Nolan’s sequel The Dark Knight Rises. But prior to that, he got in shape for the indie fighting flick Warrior, which co-stars Australian Joel Edgerton and Nick Nolte. You might be asking yourself, when, where, and what is Warrior?! Allow us to introduce you to the film. Check out the poster…

The film centers on a dysfunctional family led by an alcoholic father (Nolte) who gets sober and bonds with his youngest son (Hardy) over mixed martial arts. He ends up training him to compete in an MMA tournament with the opponent being none other than his estranged older son (Edgerton).

Hardy’s character Tommy Riordan is a former Marine with a tragic past, and his brother Brenden (Edgerton) is a struggling public school teacher who returns to MMA to provide for his family. The siblings training and fights eventually collide in the ring and all hell breaks loose.

The poster for this movie really creeps us out, because of how close Hardy and Edgerton resemble each other. Do we need to do a background check on these two?

Tom Hardy Talks Dark Knight Rises, Bane, Weight Gain, and Masks

A couple weeks ago Tom Hardy won the Rising Star award at the 2011 BAFTA’s [ the British equivalent to the Oscars] but he wasn’t there to accept it. He was probably off somewhere working because the actor is signed on to appear in more than his fair share of blockbusters with the most notable being The Dark Knight Rises.

Hardy recently appeared on a UK TV show called “Alan Carr: Chatty Man,” where he spoke about his role as Bane in TDKR for the first time. He didn’t give any specifics (he knows the rules) but he did open up about the tone that he’ll take with the character. Like everything else in the Nolanverse, his version of Bane will be a lot darker and more serious than what we’ve seen in the past.

Here’s what Hardy had to say:

“Have you seen Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin? Doesn’t look very menacing does he? Christopher Nolan will revisit the character so I wouldn’t go by that at all. I’m going to need to bulk up a lot for it. That’s a lot of weight to put on and I’ve got to start shooting in May. I’ve got to go up to about 13 or 14 stone. I’m 12 and a bit now, so I only have a few months to do that.”

Besides his huge build, one of the signatures of Bane is his mask, which is similar to what luchadores wear in the wrestling ring. Hardy stated that he will wear it in the film but only if he feels like it.

Confirmed: Anne Hathaway is Catwoman, Tom Hardy is Bane in The Dark Knight Rises

After months of speculation we’ve finally got some solid answers regarding the sequel, The Dark Knight Rises! According to Warner Bros, Anne Hathaway has officially been cast in the film and she’ll play none other than Selina Kyle aka Catwoman! But the good news doesn’t stop there. The studio also revealed that British actor Tom Hardy is set to play Bane.

In regards to Hathaway as Kyle, director Christopher Nolan said, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with Anne Hathaway, who will be a fantastic addition to our ensemble as we complete our story.” He’s equally excited about reuniting with his Inception co-star Hardy, who will go under a major transformation to play the beefed up Bane. “I am delighted to be working with Tom again and excited to watch him bring to life our new interpretation of one of Batman’s most formidable enemies.”

These are two choices that we can definitely get behind. If TDKR is Nolan’s final installment in the Batman franchise, he needs to go out with a bang. What better way to do that than to have Batman go toe to toe with one of his greatest adversaries, who happens to be the love of his life? That’s the type of drama we can’t wait to see Nolan tackle. Christian Bale and Hathaway are going to rock this!

The Dark Knight Rises will open in theaters on July 20, 2012.

VOTD: Inception’s Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy As Star-Crossed Lovers

Fanfiction has been around forever and when YouTube came on the scene it gave writers the ability to add visuals to their stories. Sometimes they have original ideas and characters and sometimes they feature people from movies and TV shows. Recently we discovered an underground fandom for the characters Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Eames (Tom Hardy) from Christopher Nolan’s Inception. In the movie the men are constantly bickering with one another, but in this particular fan-fic that’s just a cover for their true feelings. What we saw as annoyance some people saw as underlying sexual tension!

Check out what happens with Arthur and Eames when fans get a little creative…

The first video is entitled, “Undisclosed Desires” and it’s actually one of the best ones we’ve seen with the Arthur/Eames storyline. The way it edits the dialogue with the visuals is pretty impressive. Video is from Gaby0189.

This video is called “Decision” and it was created by LightNeverFades. It features clips from multiple films that feature Gordon-Levitt and Hardy including Shadowboxer, 500 Days of Summer, and Wuthering Heights. We actually buy the relationship angst in this one.

As fans of Inception, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and Tom Hardy respectively we had no idea that there was such a huge audience interested in Eames and Arthur as a couple! Now that you’ve been exposed to it, what do you think?
