Todd McFarlane, the creator of the popular comic book Spawn is ready for another live action version of the anti-hero. The last time we saw Spawn on the big screen was over a decade ago in 1997. He was portrayed by actor Michael Jai White, and fought villains in the form of a corporate Martin Sheen and a clownish John Leguizamo. Needless to say the film didn’t fare well at the box office, and is in desperate need of a reboot. More on McFarlane’s new Spawn script below.

During Comic-Con 2009, Guinness World Records honored the biggest names in Entertainment history in the fields of television, film and comic books. One of the biggest winners was the iconic hit animated series, The Simpsons. Matt Groening and Al Jean, who were at the event on behalf of the show, were presented with two amazing achievements — Longest Running Sitcom and Longest Running Animated TV Series.
There were also some other comic books that were recognized including:
- Detective Comics, the publication that introduced Batman to the world was recognized for being the Longest Continuously Published Comic Book.
- The legendary Stan Lee and comic book visionary, Todd McFarlane, accepted the record for Best-selling Comic (single edition) for Spider-Man.
- Stan Lee also accepted a solo award based on his comic-book creations having been adapted by Hollywood a record 12 times, from Spider-Man (May 2002) to The Incredible Hulk (June 2008).

Do you remember the 1997 live action film adaptation of Spawn? Most people don’t, and if they do they’ve tried to erase it from their memories. I unfortunately am not that lucky. The comic debuted in 1992 and was created by Todd McFarlane and published by Image Comics. Even though the first film attempt was critically and commercially hated, according to /Film, a reboot is in the works.
