Having been building award steam since November, it looks like Michel Hazanavicius‘s The Artist is an unstoppable juggernaut of Oscar-sized proportions. Its latest victory is winning the Producer’s Guild Award for best picture, and it should get more than a handful of nominations when the Oscar nominees are announced tomorrow. Though the holiday season tends to bring out some blockbusters, Christmas itself is a terrible day for movies. And this year, with Christmas Eve on a Saturday and Christmas on a Sunday, we’re not going to see strong weekend numbers from anyone. Something that’s going to repeat next weekend with New Year’s. Then again, it’s been a weak year, and last weekend proved it. This weekend we get The Adventures of Tintin, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol in it’s non-Imax run, We Bought a Zoo, The Darkest Hour and War Horse going wide. Busy busy.

That’s going to change with the release of New Year’s Eve. Still, it’s been a slow, slow Fall.

It’s still a bit shocking that there isn’t a steady drumbeat of geek excitement for a project that unites Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson and Edgar Wright together, but such is the case with The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. Perhaps it’s a general disappointment with non-James Cameron motion capture. Regardless, there’s a new trailer for Tintin, which stars Jamie Bell as the titular Tintin, and Daniel Craig as Red Haddock. Take a look…

Jamie Bell plays a very important role in the upcoming motion-capture, 3D epic, The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn. He’s the title character in the adaptation that’s helmed by the legendary Steven Spielberg. We recently spoke with Bell at the press junket for The Eagle and he talked about his love for Tintin but his initial reluctance to do motion capture because he had no idea what the technology entailed. He also spoke about the film’s story and whether or not he thinks it will appeal to American audiences.
