Raul Julia must be rolling in his grave right now because according to a report from Deadline, The Addams Family is heading to the big screen…again. The morbidly Gothic clan was last seen in theaters in The Addams Family Values back in 1993 and now Tim Burton wants to put his spin on the unconventional story.
We don’t have a lot of choices this week. In one corner we have the blockbuster film with director Tim Burton and the versatile and talented Johnny Depp together again in a remake of fan favorite fantasy film Alice in Wonderland. In the film we have 19-year-old Alice returns to the magical world from her childhood adventure. The family adventure brings back all the characters from the Mad Hatter to the Cheshire cat to Tweedledee/Tweedledum.
In the other corner we have an action drama that is filled with more leading male actors than one movie should be able to handle. Brooklyn’s Finest stars Richard Gere, Don Cheadle, Ethan Hawke AND Wesley Snipes all together in one movie about three unconnected Brooklyn cops wind up at the same deadly location after enduring vastly different career paths. If there is one thing Antoine Fuqua’s thriller will not lack, it is talent on screen.
Tim Burton’s successful career spans over two decades and boasts such hits as Beetlejuice, Batman, and Edward Scissorhands. His latest project, Alice in Wonderland is a live action, CGI animated adaptation of Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass. In the film, he reunites with frequent collaborators Johnny Depp, who stars as The Mad Hatter and Helena Bonham Carter who plays The Red Queen to expose a new generation to the classic tale.
Alice in Wonderland has been “Burtonized” with its heavy Gothic elements, and its visual detail. Like most films these days, it’s in 3D and utilizes a lot of CGI. When the director appeared at the official press conference for the movie he discussed the controversial reasoning behind why he shot the film in 2D and converted it later. Plus, he let us in on the changes he made to the story that will make his version of the film stick out. He doesn’t heavily alter the material, he just modernizes it in a way that only Tim Burton could.
Is there anything Tim Burton can’t do? This weekend we’ll see his interpretation of the the classic Lewis Carroll tale, Alice in Wonderland, and next he’s jumping on the vampire bandwagon. According to THR, he’ll produce the big screen adaptation of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter alongside Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov.

Acclaimed director Tim Burton has just been given some new responsibilities. According to the Associated Press, he will head the 2010 Cannes Film Festival Jury. This March, Tim Burton will premiere his version of the children’s tale Alice in Wonderland, which will be a mixture of animation, live action, and 3-D technology. Now, there’s speculation that he’ll take on another classic that’s been previously adapted by Disney, Sleeping Beauty. But this won’t be your typical take on the story, it will be told from another character’s point of view.
We finally have a solid confirmation regarding Tim Burton’s adaptation of the TV soap, Dark Shadows. Over at SciFi Wire they spoke to producer Graham King who pretty much confirmed the film’s production start date and Johnny Depp’s casting. He also revealed what role the actor will play and gave a much needed script update.
