UpALP11 9 09 New DVD Release: Up, The Ugly Truth, Sesame Street

Two major hits come out on DVD from two different ends of the spectrum. First, there’s the Pixar smash Up (maybe the best in that studio’s canon) and second there’s the crass bit of raunch The Ugly Truth. Meaning: There’s something for everybody!

Plus, there’s more kids classics in tow as “Seasame Street” celebrates its 40th anniversary with a retrospective set of the series’ best bits. All that, plus the three worst DVDs of the week!b Check it all out below…

Movie Releases: The Ugly Truth, Orphan, The Answer Man…

MovieReleases7 24 09AH2 Movie Releases: The Ugly Truth, Orphan, The Answer Man...

Say what you want about Katherine Heigl, the girl knows how to pick a movie that will be a hit.  This week she stars in Robert Luketic’s film The Ugly Truth with Gerald Butler.  So what is the “ugly truth” that we will be spending our hard earned money trying to figure out? That women love with their heart and men love with other body parts. Although the concept is nothing new, the chemistry between Heigl and Butler makes the movie a must see, at least for girly-girls everywhere.

And if you like watching freakishly scary little girls who try and kill the members of the new family they are adopted into, then you should catch Jaume Collet-Serra’s film Orphan starring Isabelle Fuhrman.  I don’t know about this film, it seems like a scarier version of the 1993 film The Good Son where Macaulay Culkin successfully portrays the crazy young child trying to kill others.

The Ugly Truth Press Conference: Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl

theuglytruth 09 7 20 a The Ugly Truth Press Conference: Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl

Last week we attended the press conference for The Ugly Truth with Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl — needless to say there was a lot of talk about sex, how to get it, how to act once you get it, and what happens when you’re not getting it. It’s safe to say that Butler and Keigl are two very different types of actors, who are both associated with a very different type of genre. Yet thank god for Butler, whose dramatic-action background brought something refreshing to their otherwise re-hased movie and their possibly dull press conference.

Red Band Trailer/Clips For The Ugly Truth

gerard heigl7 1 09ah Red Band Trailer/Clips For The Ugly Truth

It’s that time of year again, we have a new chick flick coming out soon: Robert Luketic’s The Ugly Truth starring the queen of these movies Katherine Heigl herself. The red band trailer (more like 3 clips strung together) for the film hit the Internet today and even after looking at it, I’m not sure if they’re going for dirty comedy or sexy-chick flick, because it seems to be stuck in the middle somewhere.

The Ugly Truth which is about a  romantically challenged morning show producer, (Heigl) who starts taking advice from her chauvinistic correspondent (Gerald Butler), (doesn’t this remind you of Hitch a little bit?) in order to find a man. If this trailer is any indication, the movie will try to be more R-rated then people would expect (hey, sex sells). With lines like, “Boobies in this bra say put me in your mouth and taste me,” and “Men like something to grab onto other than your ass,” this movie can easily go wrong while trying to play borderline raunchy/funny.

The Ugly Truth Second Trailer

the ugly truth 2 The Ugly Truth Second Trailer

A second trailer has been released for the Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler comedy The Ugly Truth. Yes, this is another romantic comedy where Heigl plays a successful, independent woman who eventually realizes that her material success can’t fulfil what she’s lacking emotionally. Cue Butler to star as her chauvinistic opposite, who I bet you a million bucks she falls in love with by the end of the film. I love Gerard Butler, but I can’t stand him in these sappy romantic comedies. Either way you can judge for yourself whether or not the film is worth your time.

Check out the trailer after the jump.

song09 4 01 ShoWest: Sony Struts Its Stuff

Out of all the presentations I think this one probably has been the most impressive. They just screened some never before seen clips and trailers for District 9 (trailer coming in a couple of weeks!), The Ugly Truth, Angels and Demons, Julie and Julia, Year One, and The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3. Every single one looks amazing for what it is.

Check out news on the clips below…
