This was the first weekend since it opened that The Hunger Games was weak enough to be dethroned from the top slot. Fortunately for the film, it’s competition was weak. Perhaps not as weak as originally thought, as The Three Stooges and The Cabin in the Woods exceeded some expectations, whereas Lockout barely opened in the top ten. Check out the numbers…

After years of trying to get the project off the ground, the Farrelly Brothers finally bring us their big screen adaptation of the The Three Stooges. The guys responsible for such gross out classics like Dumb and Dumber and There’s Something About Mary attempt to update the classic Stooge act for a modern audience. After a few cringe-worthy, family friendly-trailers, the movie turns out better than previously expected, yet is nothing to brag about.

This weekend a film that’s been sitting in a can for nearly three years goes up against a reboot of a franchise spawned in the 1920′s, only to have to face deadly Hunger Games competition. Yes, we are in April, and yes, the system is winding down after a record-setting March to deliver odd films that the system never figured out how to sell.

On this week’s ScreenCrave Movie Show Podcast, Michael Benedict and Kit Bowen discuss The Three Stooges–does the reboot of the classic slapstick comedy team work, or fall flat on its face? Then, Bowen discussed the new horror film The Cabin in the Woods, while Amy and Nancy Harrington take on the Josh Hutcherson vehicle Detention, calling it a cross between Scream, The Breakfast Club, and about a dozen other ’80s and ’90s flicks. Who are Chris Diamantopoulos and Will Sasso, you ask? The two funnymen (Diamantopolous has appeared in 24 and Up All Night; Sasso used to be on MadTV and does voice acting for Family Guy) play Moe and Curly, respectively, in the Farrelly brothers’ big-screen adaptation The Three Stooges, opposite Sean Hayes (Will & Grace) as Larry. ScreenCrave recently spoke with Diamantopoulos and Sasso about bringing the beloved slapstick characters to life in the new film, as well as their love for the Stooges trio. Check out our interview below!

The incredibly, just plain obviously bad idea of reimagining the classic Three Stooges for the 21st Century continues to sink even deeper to the pond-scummy backwash that sloshes around the bottom of the pop cultural barrel—by visiting the WWE. That’s right, the new Three Stooges (soon to join New Coke in the annals of bad ‘New’ reboots) paid a visit to WWE Raw on Monday night, interacted with a crude Italian stereotype, performed for an audience of amusingly perplexed WWE fans, and were then booed by a disinterested audience. Check out the video below.

You have to give it to Peter and Bobby Farrelly. Few filmmakers would make a restaging of The Three Stooges into a passion project, but for them it’s the dream of a lifetime. And now it’s about to hit theaters starring Sean Hayes, Chris Diamantopoulos, Will Sasso, and a host of cameos. Here’s the final trailer for the film – which sells it as the proto-Jackass. Take a look…

Wow… just, well, wow. Who would have thought that the collision of such comedic heavyweights—the Farrelly Brothers and the Three Stooges (well, people acting like the Three Stooges, anyway)—would be this, well, horrible? The trailer to The Three Stooges showcases all the old slapstick humor of the original troupe, but with none of the charm or zany wit; instead, we get lots of people being hit the groin, and the cast of Jersey Shore. Oh, good.

Well it’s about time—the Farrelly brothers’ update of The Three Stooges for 20th Century Fox has finally gotten another cast member. After endless cast reshuffles, it was announced last month that Mad TV’s Will Sasso will be starring as Curly in the film. And now, the brothers have found their Larry—Will and Grace’s Sean Hayes.
