It’s no surprise that The Princess and the Frog kicked ass at the box office. It’s a new Disney film with old school animation, which means that it reminds adults of their childhood and gave the new generation something to smile about without CGI or 3-D glasses.Twilight is still hanging on, but not my much. As the holidays role in, all the Oscar and Holiday films will soon take over our top ten (I can’t wait!).
Aside from that, there were no records broken this weekend at the box office. It feels like quiet before the storm, which reminds me…. we have Avatar hitting theaters next week.I wonder how big of a splash it will make.
Here are the box office numbers from this past weekend…

As we all know, last week was pretty uneventful in terms of new movie releases, thankfully, that all changes today. December 11th marks Disney’s return to hand-drawn animation with The Princess and the Frog, which looks gorgeous. Ever since we saw a few clips of it back at Comic-Con all signs point to Disney magic. Peter Jackson’s new movie, The Lovely Bones, has received mixed reviews, but is beautifully shot and hey, it’s Peter Jackson! Fashion designer, Tom Ford’s new film, A Single Man, starring Colin Firth will be in limited release this wee, but is sure to grow with Oscar buzz. Finally we have Matt Damon and Morgan Freeman’s latest movie, Invictus, about the relationship between Nelson Mandela and the South African Rugby player, Francois Pienaar, after Mandela was elected President. Enjoy!
Check out the movies coming out this week…

Walt Disney Animation has hopped on the nostalgia train with their latest film, The Princess and the Frog. The 2-D animated feature has gained lots of attention because of its hand drawn style and history making protagonist. The film features the first African-American Disney princess, who will join the ranks of Jasmine, Belle, Ariel, Cinderella, and Snow White. Tiana adds a new face to the Magic Kingdom and does it with style, grace, and charm in this contemporary Disney musical.

I decided to make a surprise trip over to D23, Disney’s new Expo which looks like a mini Comic-Con but with a quarter of the people, booths, clips, and filmmakers. Although it’s nice not to be sweating in line for Hall H, it’s a bit weird having to wait half an hour for them to start a clip because they need the room to fill. The calm is a bit disconcerting.
This morning Bob Iger took the stage to introduce us to the first 30 minutes of The Princess and the Frog, (only 87% finished and with a temp score) and a song medley by the star of the film Anika Noni Rose, who does the voice for Princess Tiana (despite the fact that she had bronchitis and couldn’t speak).
But now to the film!

A full theatrical trailer for Disney’s The Princess and the Frog has been released and just like the teaser, it looks amazing! The film marks the studio’s dramatic return to hand drawn animation and they’ve shown that they haven’t loss their touch. A few months ago we brought you the teaser that introduced you to the basic premise of the film, and now you get to see a whole lot more from the characters.
Here’s the return of that old-fashioned Disney animation…

A good promotional piece has been released for Disney’s upcoming feature The Princess and the Frog. It focuses on the film’s villain Dr. Facilier, played by Keith David. I saw a little snippet of his character in action at Comic-Con, and I have to say he is one to watch. The following video gives us an inside look at the creation and the casting of this colorful character. You can view the video below.
