Last week we had the opportunity to talk to long time actor, producer, write and director, Grant Heslov over the phone about his latest film (with the most unique title in theaters) The Men Who Stare at Goats starring George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges.
The film constantly plays with the seriousness of war and the comedy of a second-rate journalist on a mission to discover the truth behind a top-secret wing of the U.S. military who call themselves “The Jedi-Knights” and can read their enemy’s thoughts and kill a goat with a simple look. It’s clear that Heslov’s experience both in front and behind the camera helped him to make this film the triumph that it is.

Ready for a bit of dry humor with your war film? Actually, it’s quite hard to call Grant Heslov’s latest film The Men Who Stare At Goats starring George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges a war film. It’s more of a film about the crazy Jedi-knights who may or may not really exist in the US military. With a film like this you know what you’re paying for, the title tells you everything you need to know. It’s a film that knows how to laugh at itself without losing any of the power behind it.

This week, the latest version of Charles Dickens’ classic tale, A Christmas Carol starring Jim Carrey, Colin Firth, and Gary Oldman will hit theaters. The animation in this movie is incredible, haunting, and a little creepy all at the same time. Unfortunately, the reviews for it have been a little mixed. On another note, The Men Who Stare at Goats is based on the Jon Ronson novel about a top-secret, psychic unit in the U.S. military, and stars George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, and Ewan McGregor. For all you horror movie-lovers out there, the latest film by Milla Jovovich entitled The Fourth Kind, will be released and it’s about alien abductions in Alaska. It isn’t going to be an Oscar-worthy film, but it might still be entertaining.

Since Paranormal Activity did so well at the box office, I guess The Men Who Stare at Goats is trying to get in on some of the action. Apparently George Clooney, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Spacey, and Jeff Bridges aren’t good enough to pull in the crowds, so they brought in the one thing they knew would… the goats!

Wow… The trailer for The Men Who Stare at Goats has just been released and it’s as funny as it’s name is long. It’s got George Clooney, Kevin Spacey, Ewan McGregor, and Jeff Bridges in a comedy about military men who think they have special powers. Come on people! What more do you want? Oh yeah, and the screenplay was also featured on the 2006 Black List, a list that has the BEST unproduced screenplays of the year.
