If you like bad movies, then this week is a time to celebrate, as both The Losers and Cop Out bring their questionable credentials into your house on DVD. If you let them. They’re joined on DVD by the super-hyped The Runaways and a show that your grandparents are certain to love.

Cop Out and The Losers

Why do we group these movies? Because they are two of the most miserably horrible movies that you’ll see all year.

But it’s more than that. Each one of these movies seems to mare a potential end. With The Losers, it could be the end of the “Hey, it was a comic! Let’s make a movie!” mentality. Just look at what happened to this and Jonah Hex. Not good.

With Cop Out it signals the end of many things. Firstly, the buddy cop drama. This one is a long suffering pet that was finally put out of its misery with this movie. Remember Showtime? Remember I Spy? Well, both of those didn’t kill it, but they certainly laid the ground work for Cop Out to do the deed. This genre just seems exhausted.

Plus, what about Kevin Smith? Where does he go from this monstrosity? At this point, he’s never really recovered from Jersey Girl and now he’s farmed out as a director-for-hire for this schlock? He seems doomed.

So if you want to see the beginning of the end, just buy the DVDs:

“My Boys”: Season 2 & 3

I honestly had no idea this show was still on the air. I thought it was cancelled two years ago.

As it turns out, the last episode of the previous season aired about 15 months ago. 15 months!

And that’s becoming a big problem. A MAJOR problem for these cable shows. How is anyone supposed to really latch on to them when there is more than a year gap between episodes.

Like “Breaking Bad”? Well, this time next year the fourth season WON’T HAVE PREMIERED YET! What about “Curb Your Enthusiasm”? All we no is that it’s coming. Not when, just that it is. Seeya in 2012, Larry.

So why? Why do these cable shows continue to torture us with these long waiting periods? Well, I’m sure it helps with DVD sales.

The Losers: Movie Review

At a press conference for The Losers, Jeffrey Dean Morgan said “Let the A-Team worry about us” and he may have a good point! It looks like the A-Team has got themselves some competition! After much discrepancy over the release date between the two film The Losers, which is another film about a rogue military group who perform a bunch of interesting hijacks and blow up a lot of stuff between humorous lines, hits theaters this weekend with a bang!

It’s hard not to let “The Losers” win you over! Find out why below…

The Plot:

The Losers are a special black-ops team whose members originated from several different branches of the military. In their own units, each one of them at some point or another lost a soldier under their command, hence they dubbed themselves “The Losers.” In the midst if a mission, the government decides they want them dead, for no real good reason, and they have to go underground to find out how to save their reputations and destroy “Max”.

The Good:

Chris Evans: I always thought of him as another one for those good-looking, extremely buff, cliched male actors… until this film. Who knew that he had a nerdy, over the top, humorous side to him? Evans’ was probably the only actor (although the rest of them all put in solid performances) that really brought a character to the big screen. He had amazing energy at all times and had amazing comedic timing. His lines very easily could have been cheesy but due to his performance, they were the highlight of the movie. Especially “That’s right bitches, I got a cross bow.” Hell yes!
Fun to Watch: With so many comedic/graphic novel/action films coming out one can easily get bored and/or feel like they’re watching a film they’ve seen before. Not everything in this film was unique but it was a fun and entertaining the whole way through.
The Humor: Thankfully the filmmakers seemed to realize that the film is ridiculous and they needed to just have fun with it. They don’t try to exist in reality, the go for fantasy and it’s pure fun.
Run Time: Finally! An action film that keeps it to the point! I’m so sick of sitting in theaters for 120 minutes. 98 minutes is all you need to have a good time. Everything was to the point, the pace was fast, and you didn’t feel like there was any unnecessary baggage.
The Ending: As I’ll talk about below, the film didn’t start out with a bang for me, but it sure did finish with one!

The Bad:

The Start: The first ten minutes, which try so hard to be fast paced and action-packed don’t really suck you into the world… in fact they do the opposite. It may have been the subject matter which they had to have because of the graphic novel, but it really distanced the audience from the story. Luckily it quickly recovered and pulled the audience in with all of the unique and charming characters.

Overall:

Buy yourself some popcorn, sit back and enjoy the ride! If you’re looking for a fun time in the theaters, this is the perfect film and would make for a great double-hitter with Kick-Ass.

Rating: 8.75/10

The Losers will hit theaters on April 23rd but before its big debut we’ve got two new clips from the film. They’re not just scenes or extras, they’re a mixture of both with one highlighting Chris Evans’ character Jensen and the other being a montage that originally debuted at this year’s Wondercon. Check them out…

Jensen’s Dating Tips

The clip that featured Jensen’s dating tips was a lot more entertaining than the Wondercon video. The fact that Evans is supposed to be inept and awkward when it comes to women is hilarious. Plus, you can’t help but stare and say to yourself, “Wow, that’s Captain America I’m looking at.”

Will There be a Sequel and Videogame for The Losers?

Although a sequel may seem a little premature for The Losers, it’s clear that the director Sylvain White is hoping for a big enough box office opening to be able to continue the series and possibly even make a video game. Just by the way that Sylvain spoke about the graphic novel and adapting it, you could tell what a big fan of the series he is. He’s obviously put a lot into this film and is hoping that it will carry on into more. The film definitely has the potential to do so, it’s completely over the top in a good way and will have you laughing the whole way through. I’m even going to PAY to see it again on opening day! (Gasp!)

During a press conference for The Losers over the weekend, one of the stars of the film, Idris Elba was asked about the return of his character for the sequel. He, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and the director all discussed the possibility of the characters returning and what would need to happen in order to do so…

Unfortunately they do reveal some big spoilers when talking about the future of the series. If you want to avoid them, skip down past the spoiler warnings to where Sylvain talks about making the videogame.

**SPOILER START***

Idiris: If there is a sequel I would love to opportunity to play and bring Roque back, but it has to work for the storyline and Jeffrey and I were talking about this yesterday, I would like to see Roque come back and see Clay and Roque united again…

Jeff: It wouldn’t be an easy coming together there would be some fist to cuffs…

Idris: We could do a hotel room and burn it down (joking about Jeff and Zoe’s steamy hotel room fight/foreplay)

Sylvain: If you pick up the graphic novel you’ll see that in fact Roque actually survives in the end. It’s really the last page of “Anti-Up” it’s in the first volume. You see that Roque has survived the explosion and he’s burnt and he’s angry and he’s working for a different “Max” because you find out “Max” is actually a term used by the CIA and there’s multiple of them in the graphic novel, which is why I feel like there is so much GREAT material to make a sequel, I’m hoping we get to.

And a video game?

Sylvain: I would love to make a video game that went along with The Losers too. I’m a big gamer I think this would be awesome to do, I think you really have the opportunity to cross market this and go on different platforms but again, it’s hard to say at this point because people have to go see the movie and love it first. We can speculate, but I personally think it would make a great sequel and a great video game and all kinds of other things but we shall see…

In the following photos we get to see each character in their element. The majority of them are holding some type of weapon whether it be a gun, a missile launcher, or a suped up crossbow. It looks like the director pulls off a lot of outlandish stuff in this film and we’re not just talking about the stunts. We’re referring to the casting of Chris Evans as a tech nerd who’s supposed to be the least attractive guy out of the bunch (rolls eyes). Come on guys? Really?

Five New TV Spots for The Losers

In case the trailer is a bit foggy in your memory (it was released a while ago) check out five new TV spots for the upcoming action-packed film The Losers with Jeffery Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana (shooting weapons that probably weigh more than her), Columbus Short, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, and Oscar Jaenada.

The Losers are a special black-ops team who are masters of their crafts. In their own units, each one of them at some point or another lost a soldier under their command, hence they dubbed themselves “The Losers.” After a mishap, The Losers are framed and sentenced to be taken out. Morgan plays Sargent Clay, Elba is Roque, Evans is Jensen, Short is Pooch, Saldana is Aisha, and Oscar Jaenada is Cougar (check out all the kick-ass character banners to see them one on one with their own weapon of choice).

Although Zoe probably weighs less than my cat, she looks bad-ass with that bazooka. The overall comic-book, tongue and check vibe definitely makes me think that this film is going to be a fun ride.

The film will hit theaters on April 23, 2010.

The Losers will blast their way into theaters this spring and Warner Bros has just released six character banners featuring each of the film’s main characters. We’re talking Jeffery Dean Morgan, Zoe Saldana, Columbus Short, Chris Evans, Idris Elba, and Oscar Jaenada. The film is directed by Sylvain White and is scheduled to hit theaters on April 23, 2010.

The Losers are a special black-ops team whose members originated from several different branches of the military. In their own units, each one of them at some point or another lost a soldier under their command, hence they dubbed themselves “The Losers.” Morgan plays Sargent Clay, Elba is Roque, Evans is Jensen, Short is Pooch, Saldana is Aisha, and Oscar Jaenada is Cougar.

Is it just me or do these banners look like they were taken straight from the comic? This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, Saldana looks like she’s kicking ass and taking names. The direct comic book approach seems to be the trend with adaptations this year like with Edgar Wright’s Scott Pilgrim vs. The World where the trailer actually features words like “Kapow” flashing across the screen. I’m sure The Losers will take itself a little more serious but it could still work.

New Photos of The Losers

Six new photos have been released for the upcoming Warner Bros film, The Losers. It’s a live action adaptation of The DC/Vertigo comic of the same name and features an all star cast of badasses. As you can tell from the above photo, they’re not just pissed at the world, they’re also pissed at each other. The Losers is directed by Sylvain White, and stars Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the leader of a rag tag crew of military trained vigilanties.

The Losers are a special black-ops team whose members originated from several different branches of the military. In their own units, each one of them at some point or another lost a soldier under their command, hence they dubbed themselves “The Losers.” Morgan plays Sargent Clay, Idris Elba is Roque, Chris Evans is Jensen, Columbus Short is Pooch, Zoe Saldana is Aisha, and Oscar Jaenada is Cougar.

In the latest photos from the film, we see Morgan and Saldana getting too close for comfort, while Clay struggles to stay alive in the presence of Elba. Evans tries his hand at using a crossbow, while Saldana’s Aisha uses a heavy automatic gun as her weapon of choice. The Losers is scheduled to hit theaters on April 23, 2010.

The Losers Release Date Moved Back to April

The big screen adaptation of The Losers is starting to get some shady treatment from its home studio, Warner Bros. Just last week it was announced that the film would be a summer blockbuster when its release was pushed back to June, making it prime competition for The A-Team. It was a move that a lot of people thought would harm the comic adaptation since both films have so much in common. The Losers’ release date has been changed again!

The original release date for The Losers was set for April 9th, but Warner Bros decided to delay it a couple of months and pushed it to June 4th. Why would they do such a thing? It turns out that they didn’t want the film to be in the shadow of its other big budget release Clash of the Titans, which will debut on April 2nd. This wouldn’t have been an issue if the studio never decided to push back Titans from its original March 26th date. A date that was changed because they wanted the film to be converted to 3D. Do you see how 3D ruins everything?

Now we’re hearing that the June 4th date is no longer applicable, which I believe has something to do with the fact that The A-Team opens a week later. Nothing against The Losers, but the films are very similar and The A-Team has greater name recognition. So now, Warner Bros has decided to put the film back in April but instead of it being on the 9th it will be on April 23rd. Its new competition will be Fox’s Wall Street Money Never Sleeps, and Universal’s MacGruber.

The Losers Pushed Back to The Summer

The trailer for Warner Bros upcoming comic adaptation The Losers dropped a couple of weeks ago, and it was greeted with plenty of fanfare. This is why the studio’s latest decision regarding the film makes absolutely no sense. According to SHH, the movie has been pushed back two months, and won’t be released on April 9th as planned. Instead it’s going from a spring to a summer blockbuster duking it out against the likes of, you guessed it, The A-Team.

In their own units, each one of them at some point or another lost a soldier under their command, hence they dubbed themselves “The Losers.” Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays Sargent Clay, Idris Elba is Roque, Chris Evans is Jensen, Columbus Short is Pooch, Zoe Saldana is Aisha, and Oscar Jaenada is Cougar.

Warner Bros has moved the film to June 4, 2010, which means it will open exactly one week before The A-Team. This is rather convenient considering the similarities between the two films. If you look at both trailers they do share a similar story, tone, and attitude. The A-Team has the upper hand because it’s a pre-existing television property that has a serious fanbase. In the end, this is a decision that might hurt rather than help The Losers.

The Losers New Photo

Last week we got our first live action taste of the upcoming Warner Bros flick, The Losers. The film’s trailer was released on Friday and most of us drew the obvious A-Team comparisons. For the movie’s latest piece of promotion they’ve decided to copy themselves. Months ago there was an animated Losers photo that featured all the characters with their actor’s names attached. Now, a revised version has been released and it shows the actors as themselves live and in living color…

Over at the Hero Complex blog, they’ve debuted the new poster with the headline, “Don’t call them the B-Team.” They must have picked up on all those A-Team comparisons over at Warner Bros because they’re trying to separate themselves from the pack. When they had the opportunity to speak to the film’s director Sylvain White he spoke about the two films, and acknowledged that they do have similar plots, but stresses that The Losers are doing their own thing.

“I wasn’t aware the other movie was coming when I was busy fabricating and creating this film. All I can do is make the movie I want to make and do the best I can. I’m not worried about the ‘A-Team,’ our movie comes first and has a very different plot. … As far as aesthetic, there are a lot of gimmicks with action movies right now, a lot of frenetic edit, techy exposition and nonsense. With this movie I really tried to give it a certain elegance.

Those suckers over at Warner Bros are fast! The first trailer for the DC/Vertigo adaptation The Losers is now online. The film is directed by Sylvain White and features more than a handful of actors who’ve had their fair share of bad ass action roles. The trailer debuted over at MSN, but it’s available for your viewing pleasure here…

Entertainment Tonight had first dibs on debuting the trailer on their show, but it looks like Warner Bros had other plans. After watching it a few times I can tell you this, there are some similarities to The A-Team trailer. There’s action, humor, mild sexual innuendo, and a crazy guy with a Southern accent played pitch perfect by Chris Evans.
