So the little mini-series that could (or really, really couldn’t, if you read the reviews) finally made it onto television last night after being dropped by the history channel—The Kennedys, the miniseries about (you guessed it) the Kennedys, debuted last night on ReelzChannel (best known as the network to hit up when you’re itching for a Caroline in the City marathon).

Over the past month, a dark cloud has been hovering over the miniseries The Kennedys. The project was originally produced for The History Channel, but shortly after its completion the network decided not to air it. The film was left in limbo and no one, (we mean no one) wanted to pick it up. Luckily for them, another cable network has finally come to their rescue — ReelzChannel.
The Kennedys is a prime example of a lot of hard work gone to waste. The big budget miniseries was supposed to air on The History Channel, to mark its first entry into scripted television but after watching the finished product the network decided against it. Apparently, the film doesn’t meet their standards of historical accuracy. There were rumors that the made for TV movie was being packaged and pitched to other networks such as Showtime, who has a history of picking up renegade features but according to EW, they don’t want it either.
A while back we reported that The History Channel was gearing up to take its first step into scripted television. The cable network was preparing to air a big-budget mini-series entitled, The Kennedys, which centers on the politically charged title characters. Over the weekend it was announced that the network has no intention of airing the series even though its wrapped production.
In April it was announced that Katie Holmes would take on the epic and iconic role of Jackie Kennedy in an upcoming made for television movie. The film is entitled The Kennedys, and it’s an original miniseries that will air on the History Channel. A few weeks ago it was announced that Rachel Weisz was set to star as Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in a feature film directed by Darren Aronofsky. Now according to Vulture, Katie Holmes has signed on to play the former First Lady as well. Holmes’ incarnation will be on the small screen in a made for TV movie aptly titled, The Kennedys.
