Over the past year we’ve been stalking Edward Norton for the smallest clue on whether or not he’ll reprise his role as Bruce Banner/Hulk in future Marvel movies. For the most part the actor has stayed mum on the subject but his Incredible Hulk co-star Tim Roth recently told MTV that he’s open to do more projects, and is signed on to appear in two more films.
With someone as talented and respected as Edward Norton, I feel guilty that his name only brings one thing to mind, the Hulk. Ever since his appearance in last year’s The Incredible Hulk, the actor has been associated with the group of Marvel superheros known as The Avengers. This includes Iron Man, Thor, and Captain America. With the other three heroes all set to appear in the team up movie, we have to know if Hulk is down for the cause.
The majority of the general public has seen the first Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk, and are familiar with the upcoming Avengers collaboration that Marvel is planning. When both films were released in the summer of 2008, Robert Downey, Jr.’s Tony Stark popped up in the last act of the Hulk. It looked as if he was recruiting Bruce Banner to join the Avengers, and now rumors have been suggesting that Edward Norton will make an appearance in Iron Man 2 and return the favor.
Finally, someone is acknowledging the elephant in the room regarding the upcoming Marvel movie, The Avengers. Will Edward Norton reprise the role of Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the film? Over at IESB, they’ve got the latest straight from the horses mouth. Following this year’s Comic Con there’s been nothing but Marvel talk regarding Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America, and of course The Avengers movie. Within all of this promotion and speculation, no one’s brought up the major missing link on the upcoming roster, The Hulk.
If the first two The Incredible Hulk movies were a letdown to you, don’t fret, you likely will have a chance to give the series one more chance. As far as who the Hulk will have to battle in the next installment, CinemaBlend.com is reporting that role may very well go to Tim Blake Nelson – playing the role of Dr.Samuel Sterns.
Nelson is currently working with Norton on another film, Leaves of Grass, and says he has no idea if Norton will be returning to the franchise or not, but says he’s signed on for the second and third film, whether Norton comes on or not:
“Well, I’m signed on to do Hulk 2 and 3 whether Edward’s there or not, so it’s not even up to me. When I agreed to do Hulk, I signed off for two sequels, so it’s a moot question. I certainly hope Edward is on the sequel — but that’s up to Marvel and Edward.”
