The Alliance of Women Film Journalists is a relatively new critics organization with only a few years of awards to their credit. Still, it does give us another group of winners to look at, and yet another reason why The Hurt Locker is poised to be a lock for a Best Picture nominee as it won the group’s Best Picture Award.

The other good thing about this group? They have dozens of funny awards that incisively point out sexism in Hollywood – always a good thing.

Movies Releases: Transformers, My Sister’s Keeper, Cheri…

MovieReleases6 25 09Ah Movies Releases: Transformers, My Sisters Keeper, Cheri...

Well it is no surprise, Michael Bay’s Transformers: The Revenge of the Fallen (60.0 million on the first day!!) is going to take the top spot at the box office this week. Looks like we are going to need tissues on-hand while watching Nick Cassavetes‘ film, My Sister’s Keeper starring Cameron Diaz and Abigail Breslin. A young girl with leukemia and a even younger sister who is forced to donate organs in order to have her sister survive. I’m still not sure if I like the story but whatever the case, it will be a heartfelt film.

Things seem to be depressing in the movie world this week. From a sick young girl, we go to soldiers in Iraq who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat in Kathryn Bigelow’s The Hurt Locker starring Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie. As if, that wasn’t bad enough we then have Cyrus Nowrasteh The Stoning of Soraya M. set in 1986 Iran.

Withall that is going on in Iran right now with the deadly protest, this film seems very fitting as we see a side of Iran that has been non-existent in films until now. Oh, and haven’t we already seen the older woman going after the younger man to the dismay of his mother (Easy Virtue)? Stephen Frears Cheri seems have the same concept.

Bigelow09 6 16 Interview with Kathryn Bigelow for The Hurt Locker

Action-packed Director Kathryn Bigelow has successfully redefined the war film genre with her new film The Hurt Locker starring Jeremy Renner. The film is unique in the way that it that you neither pity nor root for the soldiers, but empathize with their situation. Bigelow makes you a voyeur to the human side of war and in doing so you are able to see both the pride of the people who defend our country and the consequences of performing one of the most dangerous jobs in the world.

Check out what she had to say about making the film below…

Jeremy renner09 6 16 Interview with Jeremy Renner for The Hurt Locker

Although he’s somewhat known for playing a crazy guy, Jeremy Renner is one of the most laid back guys you will ever meet.

In Director, Kathryn Bigelow‘s, The Hurt Locker, Renner plays Staff Sergeant William James, a member of the Army’s elite bomb squad unit that has one of the mot dangerous jobs in the world – to disarm an active bomb before it goes off. Unlike others in his field, his character feeds off the pressure and recklessly dives into dangerous situations with passion. The film is action and emotional packed thanks to the dynamic performance by Renner.

Check out what he has to say about playing Staff Sergeant, working in 120 degree heat while in the Jordan a few miles away from the violence in Baghdad, losing IQ points while trying to learn how to work in the bomb suit, adjusting back to life after shooting a film as difficult as this and more…

thehurtlocker09 4 15 The Hurt Locker Trailer and Photos

If you’re ready for a painful experience about war that will open your eyes and have you sitting at the edge of your seat, then you need to check out Kathryn Bigelow‘s new film, The Hurt Locker. The story is about three Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) squad soldiers who risk their lives and often give their lives trying to protect other soldiers by disarming bombs. It’s not an easy ride. The film has many intense emotional and action packed scenes that are gripping and terrifying simultaneously.

The film stars Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Evangeline Lilly, Ralph Fiennes, David Morse, and Guy Pearce. Without giving too much away, you don’t want to be an A-list movie star in this film. It seems Bigelow gave both Fiennes and Pearce a fairly rough ride in the film, although it was great to see them showing their support for the film. Even if she does kick their asses a bit.

hurtlocker09 3 19 First Look at The Hurt Locker

ComingSoon.net has just premiered a new “first look” clip from director Kathryn Bigelow’s upcoming action-drama, starring Jeremy Renner, Anthony Mackie, Brian Geraghty, Ralph Fiennes, and Guy Pearce called The Hurt Locker.

Apparently the story is about: “New sergeant names James (Renner), takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn (Mackie) and Eldridge (Geraghty) by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James’ true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever.”

You can’t really tell any of that from this short clip, but it still looks pretty damn cool. Check it out below…
