This was a big summer for movies, with Harry Potter 7.2, Transformers 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean 4 making more than a billion dollars worldwide. X-Men has been a decades-long favorite of the Marvel comic books, so it’s no surprise to see relaunch X-Men: First Class take the No. 1 spot in theaters on its opening weekend. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender led the superhero film’s stellar cast, and though the gross wasn’t as high as we’ve seen in past weekends, it’s admirable to see X-Men: First Class bring in a solid amount of money without 3D or IMAX tickets. After a record-breaking weekend (highest opening weekend numbers for a comedy), The Hangover Part II fell to second place with $32.4 million. Other films in the top five include Kung Fu Panda 2, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and the hilarious Bridesmaids…

Unlike Zach Galifianakis, Bradley Cooper and Ed Helms, The Hangover: Part II woke up in a very pleasant place this morning — at the top of the box office. On opening night, the Warner Brothers picture grossed a record breaking $31.6 million, making it the highest opening for an R-rated film. Today, The Hangover: Part II has gone above and beyond ($118 million) its budget ($80 million), making us wonder if executives are already conjuring up a third sequel. Two years ago, The Hangover hit theaters and exploded. Coming after a long run of successful Judd Apatow comedies, Todd Phillip’s production was a completely different comic world, and turned Zach Galifianakis into a movie star. For the follow up the pressure was on from the get-go to make a film that equaled the first film. For co-screenwriter Scot Armstrong, that meant locking himself in a room with the two other writer, and being on set. We talked about the making of the film, and the headaches involved with following the most successful R rated comedy of all time. Check it out…

Ultimate tragedy! The trailer for Todd Phillips‘ The Hangover Part II that was released last week - and attached to Source Code - is being destroyed by the MPAA. The trailer went out first on the internet, where it will long live. Joblo broke the story, and this story raises interesting questions about what exactly happened. It’s as if we have to piece together what happened after it happened…

Warner Brothers has been relatively tight-lipped about Todd Phillips’s The Hangover Part II and its plot details, but more is emerging thanks to the full trailer, which just debuted. It shows that Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis are back in a similar position of not remembering the night before and this time it’s not Justin Bartha they’ve lost, but a young boy. Also returning is Ken Jeong as Mr. Chow. Take a look…
