As we bid farewell to 2011, it’s time for us to look ahead and get excited about the movies that 2012 will bring. The Golden Globes and Oscars haven’t named their favorites yet, but we’re not waiting around for that. We are excited about the future. There are some great movies to look forward to in 2012 – sequels, re-releases, film adaptations, and even a Pixar movie. Distinguished directors like Judd Apatow and Quentin Taratino both have movies coming out next year, so we’re excited for that too. Despite the fact that it’s taking a classic piece of American literature and turning it into a 3-D film, Baz Luhrmann’s film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby might not be quite as horrible as we first thought. Of course, I’m basing this opinion simply on a few photos that have leaked out from the set, but, that said, these do seem to capture, in their own small way, the mood and tone of the book.

Well, it looks like the star-studded cast of Baz Luhrman’s adaptation of The Great Gatsby might just get a little bigger—in addition to nabbing Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Macguire as narrator Nick Carraway, and Carrie Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan, Luhrman just might be able to add Ben Affleck to the cast as Tom Buchanan, Daisy’s husband, if Affleck’s schedule can accommodate it.

It didn’t take long for director Baz Luhrmann to get Carey Mulligan on board with his adaptation of the literary classic, The Great Gatsby. Last week we reported that Mulligan had rose to the top of the shortlist of actresses who were in the running for the part of Daisy Buchanan, when Scarlett Johansson became unavailable. Today, the director confirmed to Deadline that Mulligan is his Daisy.
