boxoffice09 8 31 Weekend Box Office: More Blood, More Money

Once again, the teenage horror market takes over the box office with two gory sequels, The Final Destination and Halloween II coming in at numbers 1 and 3, only to be separated by a more sophisticated but the equally bloody film Inglourious Basterds. Sadly, our readers predicted that the wrong film would take the lead this weekend, but I like to see that you all went for good old fashioned quality blood over the new wave 3-D guts. Apparently upping the budget for the last film in The Final Destination series from $22-25 million to $42 million paid off.

H2 and Final Destination 8 27 09Ah Movie Releases: Taking Woodstock, Halloween II, The Final Destination

Horror films are taking over this weekend at the movies. We have Rob Zombie’s thriller Halloween II coming out the same week as David R. Ellis’ The Final Destination. Which should you go see? The one where everyone dies a gruesome, horrific death or the one where everyone dies a gruesome, horrific death? At least it makes for some good entertainment, if you’re into that sort of thing. If not, go for the musical comedy, (Ang Lee’s Taking Woodstock with Henry Goodman), the romantic comedy, (Marc Feinberg’s Play The Game with the one and only Andy Griffith!!) or the funny drama, (Robert D. Siegel’s Big Fan with Patton Oswalt).

Here are the movies coming out August 28th…

Picture 314 Poll: Halloween II vs. The Final Destination?

You’d think it was October by the looks of this weekend’s movie showdown. The official end of summer is upon us and oddly enough horror movies are all the rage. The sequels Halloween II and The Final Destination are both competing for your box office dollars. One is another installment in what seems like a never ending franchise, while the other is a sequel to a remake of a previous franchise (confusing enough?). The choice is yours, which film would you actually pay money to see?

Take our official Halloween vs. Final Destination Poll below…

New Final Destination Trailer Looks Expensive

finaldesintaion09 6 4 New Final Destination Trailer Looks Expensive

The new trailer for The Final Destination, the fourth and final film in the series looks really expensive. I know that’s not a description you’re used to hearing for a trailer, but for the most part these films look rather cheesy and the special effects are just good enough. Not in this trailer. They start off with a Nascar “incident,” which one can only imagine would be extremely expensive to shoot.

I couldn’t help but wonder if they decided to up the budget on this installment and why now? I looked up the numbers and I was right, they did throw a lot more money into this film even though the director of the film, David R. Ellis (Humpty Dumpty) was only involved in Final Destination 2, the least successful of the series.

Check out the trailer and the numbers below…
