Chuck Norris Demands That ‘The Expendables 2′ Be Rated PG-13

Oh, boy. Walking internet meme/fictional Texas Ranger Chuck Norris, in case you didn’t know, is a cast member of the upcoming Expendables 2 action film (along with pretty much every other action star ever). What you might not know (and what has yet to be officially confirmed) is that Norris refused to sign on to The Expendables 2 unless the violence and language was scaled back from the R rating of the original and to a safe PG-13.

It’s something of a troubling declaration, as one of the only real reasons to watch the original film was to see a bunch of aging action stars party like it was 1985 and gleefully, shamelessly celebrate the insane action films of the 80s—including their over the top language and violent action. So if The Expendables 2 loses that, well, what’s the point of watching it?

Norris broke it down like this:

With The Expendables 2, you have a lot of hard language in there that means that young people won’t be able to see it. I said, I don’t do movies like that. I didn’t do them in the past, I didn’t do them on my TV series. I said, you have to cut out all the language, hardcore language or I can’t do it. So they did, and Expendables is now a PG-13 film so kids can see it.

Remember, this news has yet to be confirmed by the studio and, even if it is true, there is likely to be an unrated Blu-Ray of the film that will please you hard 80s violence fans.

‘The Expendables 2′ Trailer Features Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Norris, Van Damme And More

Brace yourselves, folks—you are about to witness the most testosterone-heavy 60 second clip you have ever, or likely will ever, witness. Seriously, this thing is the visual equivalent of eating a pound of raw meat, going to the gym for an hour, and then challenging a stranger to a bloody streetfight. Also, like those things, it’s kind of really dumb (but in a fun way). What am I referring to, you ask? The Expendables 2 trailer.

Honestly, you have to peep this clip to believe it, with its near-comic avalanche of clips featuring cinema’s most muscle-bound and steroid-pumped action heroes, with many returning from the last film, along with a few new faces, including the bearded visage of Chuck Norris (!), along with Jean-Claude van Damme as the film’s villain.

So what did you think? Ridiculous, no? Honestly, the trailer feels like it’s bordering on some kind of online fanfic by combining all of these new and old action stars into one film together, but, that said, it may end up being strangely hypnotizing and watchable, like the previous film, which was simply too silly not to enjoy.

The Expendables 2 will hit theaters in 2012.

Stuntman Killed On ‘The Expendables 2′ Set, Another Critically Injured

Sad news to report today. During a second unit filming of an explosion effect for the upcoming and wholly necessary Expendables sequel, one stuntman was critically wounded while another, unfortunately, died instantly in the accident in the pyrotechnics accident.

Apparently “the two victims were reportedly in a rubber boat atop Bulgaria’s Ognyanovo water reservoir when the bomb mishap occurred,” leaving one stuntman dead, and the other “in serious condition.” The names of the stuntmen are currently being withheld out of respect to their families, according to a representative for the production.

During the accident, Expendables 2 (which could seriously use a better action movie title; something along the lines of Expendables 2: Expendables Harder, or Expendables II: Seriously Stallone, We Get It, You’re Glad To Be Back, We Get It) director Simon West and the principle cast and crew “were several hours away at the time, filming in Bansko.”

Nu Image/Millennium Films, the production company for Expendables 2, released the following statement about the tragedy:

“It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident.”

It is currently unknown whether the surviving stuntman will pull through. We’ll post updates as they happen.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Tweets Expendables 2 Photo

Twitter, now a place for movie news! Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently shooting The Expendables 2 in Bulgaria and is reuniting with his costars Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone for his scenes. How do we know? Schwarzenegger tweeted this picture to confirm it. The film is scheduled to open in August 2012.

Willis suggested his part would be bigger in the second film, though with this picture it suggests that he and Arnie will share a similar role in this movie, at least from the outset. Schwarzenegger is currently in pre-production on his next film – Last Stand – but as he’s no longer the governor of California, he should have much more free time.

The IMDb is currently filled with interesting rumored casting, most likely untrue (currently the page lists Nicholas Cage and John Travolta), though it is known that Jean Claude Van Damme and Liam Hemsworth will be joining the cast that includes returning cast members Stallone and Jason Statham. The first film grossed $103 Million domestically, and $274 Million worldwide, which explains the sequel. The biggest cahnge for this film is that while Stallone wrote, directed and starred in the last film, this time he’s handed off the directing duties to Simon West, and is not currently credited with the screenplay.

Oh, sweet lord. It looks like The Expendables 2 is set to launch the highest combination of Viagra and steroids on movies screens, well, ever—Deadline reports that Sylvester Stallone-starring sequel to the 2010 surprise hit is finally going to give in to every action fanboy wishlist that was crafted anytime between 1984 and 1989: the film will co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger. And Bruce Willis. And Chuck Norris. And Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Also rumored to appear is—sigh—John Travolta (hey, they can’t all be winners).

The AV Club also reports that many familiar faces will be flexing their collectively performance-enhanced physiques on screen:

“Along with the returning Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Jet Li—as well as the more modern additions Jason Statham, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews—Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and John Travolta are also reportedly on board… And of course, there’s still plenty of time for more rumor-mongering over who might also find their way into the nostalgia kickline, a sprawling list that includes everyone from Mr. T and Hulk Hogan to Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, from Lorenzo Lamas and Jeff Speakman to Carl Weathers and Charlie Sheen.”

Seriously—if a film is released next year starring Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mr. T, Hulk Hogan, and Lorenzo freakin’ Lamas, it will officially be the most manly moment in history.

‘The Expendables 2′ Gets A 2012 Release Date

Oh boy oh boy oh boy—as a fan of good bad movies, this news warms my bitter, cheesy movie-loving heart—The Expendables 2: Help Stallone Cash In All The Chips He Possibly Can During This Brief And Inexplicable Resurgence Of His Popularity has been given an official release date for next year, meaning that 2012 is going to be the best year of my moving-going life.

According /Film, The Expendables 2 will be punching theaters in the face before shooting them mercilessly with a fully-automatic weapon and then detonating an explosive over there celluloid carcasses on August 17, 2012, aka, the most amazing day ever. There is relative little competition that week, and G.I. Joe 2: Jesus Christ, They Made A Goddamn Sequel? will be coming to theaters the week before, on August 10.

Thus far, a director for the sequel has yet to be named (Stallone’s sitting out of the director’s chair this time), and the film was written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. No official confirmation of the cast yet—outside of Stallone—but rumors run rampant from a returning Jason Statham to—sigh—Charlie Sheen. Only time, and a healthy does of human growth hormones, will tell.

Sylvester Stallone Won’t Write or Direct The Expendables 2?

Could you image The Expendables without Sylvester Stallone being involved in every little part of the development and production process? The man owned the 80′s action genre of which the movie payed homage to so it only seems right that he would pen and direct the sequel. Unfortunately, 24 Frames claims that Stallone might be handing off those reigns to someone else. What’s up with that?

The site says that The Expendables 2 is a high priority project for Millennium Films, where Stallone is currently meeting with possible directors to helm it. The script for the new movie has been written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. Kaufman previously penned the Clint Eastwood film Space Cowboys and Curious George (we don’t know how we feel about this one).

The Expendables was an indie film that took a risk on a group of oldies but goodies from the action genre and it became a huge hit. It debuted at number one and stayed there for two weeks. It grossed $275-million worldwide against an initial investment of $80 million. We’re not sure if all of the remaining cast members will return for the sequel, but we do know Stallone is on board to star. Too bad he won’t direct.

Jason Statham Interested in The Expendables Sequel

Last year one of the biggest box office surprises was Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables. People came out in droves to see the campy send up of eighties action movies, causing it to earn an impressive $274 million worldwide. That was more than enough to compensate its $80 million budget, and it has the studio contemplating making another one. One of the many stars of the film was Jason Statham who recently gave an update on the pending follow up to the ass-kicking fest.

When Statham spoke to the folks over at Collider, he was asked about the sequel and whether or not he would be interested in reprising his role.

“I’d be the first to say yes to a phone call from Sly. I mean, we spoke about it as soon as the movie started to do really well and he says, you know, it would be great to do this again, and if there’s anyone who can do a good sequel it’s Sly Stallone! He’s done a fair amount. Yeah, we had a good time. It’s something I’d like to repeat.”

He’s right. If anyone can milk a film it’s Stallone. If Rocky and Rambo can do it, The Expendables should be given a shot. Let’s make this happen!

New DVD Releases: The Expendables, Eat Pray Love, I’m Still Here

The major DVD Releases really run the gamut this week. There’s the mega-testosterone fueled thrill ride of The Expendables right alongside the estrogen-soaked introspection of Eat Pray Love. Something for everybody! Or the best argument yet for having two DVD players in the house. All that, plus a few indie films (including that infamous Joaquin Phoenix experiment) and a small smattering of TV on DVD.

If there’s one thing that irks me it’s all the false advertising for 3-D features that are as flat Jessica Biel’s performance in…well, anything. Now, we have more false advertising to gripe about. Every commercial I see for this DVD claims that all these great action stars are together, “For the first and last time!” Ummmmm, did I miss something?

Sly, you’ve joined the false advertising parade and I am none too please.

Eat Pray Love

“If women like it, it must be stupid.”

I read this quote when this book was tearing through the charts and the movie had been greenlit and it sort of resonated with me. Because in our society this seems to be the case.

Think about it. Any sort of romantic movie is automatically derided as a chick flick. No matter how good it is, if it appeals to women it instantly faces that stigma. Love Actually is an absolute comedy classic, and it falls into the chick flick category. Gilmore Girls was one of the ten best TV shows of the decade, and because of its title, people sneer at it as being nothing but a show about slumber parties and hairdos.

I’ve always railed against the inherent sexism in Hollywood: How a lack of women behind the camera leads to horrible lack of good roles for them on camera. How the Best Actress race is always the easiest to predict. How female roles always, always, revolve around the male in the story.

But it’s easy to see how the sexism extends beyond even the executive ivory towers when you see how quickly people dismiss a movie like Eat Pray Love just based on the title and because it’s enjoyed by women.

So, I implore you, stop thinking that a book or movie appeals to women that it must be inferior. You’re certain to find some gems you’d otherwise run from.

Charlie Sheen Could Appear in The Expendables 2

Charlie Sheen has once again found himself in the middle of some negative press thanks to his behind the scenes antics. He’s currently going through some personal drama, but still has his TV show “Two and a Half Men” to keep him warm at night. Unfortunately, any semblance of his once fledgling film career has vanished and at times like these there’s only one person to call, Todd Phill — Sylvester Stallone!

According to What is Playing, Sheen may be up for a role in Stallone’s follow up to the summer smash, The Expendables. The sequel will feature several new faces and there’s a good chance that Sheen might be one of them. Apparently Stallone and Sheen became close buds after Sheen played a parody of his character Rambo in the comedy Hot Shots: Part Deux.

Sources claim that Sheen might be up for the role of “a washed-up-but-useful CIA type” who’s on the hunt for Bruce Willis‘ character Mr. Church. This begs the question, has Mr. Church gone rogue? In the first film it seemed as if he was one of the good guys. Maybe he has his own agenda in The Expendables 2?

Weekend Box Office: Can The Expendables Really Be The Winner?

Can there even be a winner? Despite this being one of the weekends of summer vacation, it seems like overall this entire weekend was a bomb. Where was everyone? On Netflix? There were five new films released into theaters and yet The Expendables remained the champ with less than $17 million at the box office. Well done Sly, but what’s going on?! People seem to have had enough romantic comedies and even the popular duo of Aniston and Bateman wasn’t enough to draw people in.

The closest film to a success is surprisingly Bow Wow’s film Lottery Ticket, which looks like it raked in a good percentage of its budget. Meanwhile Nanny McPhee Returns, which Universal probably thought would have a little more of a built in audience seeing as it grossed over $100 million six years ago, seems to have had the most money and almost the worst response — though kids movies do tend to stick around so we’ll have to wait and see!

After all, they haven’t even released the budget for The Switch, which might be a very bad sign.

Sylvester Stallone Has The Expendables Sequel Plotted Out

Whenever a movie debuts at number one over the box office weekend, sequel talk immediately rears its ugly head. Sylvester Stallone’s latest flick, The Expendables crushed the competition last weekend by earning $35 million, which is quite a feat considering the the acting was so-so and the plot was non-existent. But let’s be serious, who was in it for those reasons? People saw the movie because they wanted to watch sh*t get blown up and that’s exactly what happened. Now there are rumors that Stallone might be up for another round with the cast, is The Expendables Part 2 in the works?

In a recent interview, Stallone revealed that he has an idea of where he wants The Expendables story to go if he decides to shoot a sequel.

It’s plotted out in my mind’s eye. I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can’t become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges.

Do you know what that sounds like to us? It sounds like he wants to switch out certain stars with some who were unable to appear in the original. We’re thinking Kurt Russell, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal (if he cooperates), Chuck Norris, and maybe Michael Jai White. It would be awesome if Blade aka Wesley Snipes could be a part of it too but he has his hands tied at the moment.
