With moviegoers eyes glued to the Oscar’s this Sunday, Owen Wilson, Nicolas Cage, and a slew of leftovers will all vie for the number one spot at the box office this weekend. Owen Wilson, SNL Star Jason Sudeikis will attempt to score a solid opening with Hall Pass, while Nicolas Cage tries to avoid a bomb at the box office with his latest release Drive Angry Shot In 3D. All in all, it should be a somewhat slow weekend.

Romance was about to just barely beat out the Bieb-ster this Grammy weekend. The Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston comedy Just Go With It topped at the box office grossing $31 million, but Never Say Never was trailing behind and grossed $30.2 million. Following the top two where also two more newcomers, Gnomeo and Juliet and The Eagle.

This weekend Channing Tatum will headline his first period piece: The Eagle. The film is directed by Kevin MacDonald and co-stars Jamie Bell and Donald Sutherland. The film is based on the book The Eagle of the Ninth, which was written by Rosemary Sutcliff and takes us into the dangerous world of second-century Britain. The premise of the film centers on a Roman officer, Marcus Flavius Aquila (Tatum), as he tries to discover the truth about the disappearance of his father’s ninth legion in Northern Britain.
We recently spoke to Tatum about his take on the famous tale, and he revealed what drew him to the material, his obsession with playing soldiers, and the on set rivalry that developed between him and Bell. Check out the interview…
