Robots! Despite cinema telling us over and over that once we build them, they’ll become our mechanized overlords, hell-bent on wiping out humanity — we can’t shake them. It’d still be really cool to have them around to do the dishes, our homework, vacuum, and pay our bills now and again. Right? Our fascination with robots have long been a subject of film, and here at ScreenCrave, we’ve decided to put together a list of our 10 favorite machines. From murderously insane cyborgs, to robotic friends, to well…more murderously insane cyborgs, it’s a grouping of our favorite humanoid creatures.
Note to nitpickers: Before you complain about certain absences, please note that Hal 9000 is a computer, not a robot; Data is primarily a TV show character; and the Transformers…well, those movies are terrible. They won’t be on here.
Check out our list below… (Warning, movie spoilers ahead!)

Looks like it they’re hoping for a pretty big opening day for The Day the Earth Stood Still. They’re predicting, $49 millions, but I’m guessing they’d like to see something closer to $60-70 million, which is what Twilight was able to make ($69). Nothing But the Holidays will most likely me fighting it out with Australia for it’s Holiday spot. I don’t think much could touch Four Christmases, Twilight, or Bolt at the rate they’re going. As for all the other amazing films being released this week, they’re not on the list, but they should be! The sad thing is that The Punisher, in it’s second week and it will probably be bringing in as much as Milk in it’s fourth week. Not good for an action film, but great for Milk! Are you a glass half empty or half full type of person?

You’ve got Doubt, The Reader, and Gran Torino. Talk about pulling out the big guns. You’ve got some of the top actors of all time, all giving amazing performances in well known, books, plays, etc. Then there is, Wendy and Lucy, it looks a tad slow, but everyone who has seen it says it’s amazing. I know you’ll all be at an IMAX seeing The Day the Earth Stood Still, but make it a double. Something to feed the eyes and your brain.

Earth is yet again in danger this year from an alien invasion and possible human extinction. One would think after so many years of these type of movies, Earth would have tighter security around the atmosphere. Movies like The Day the Earth Stood Still, are classic examples of science fiction with a hidden message buried within it’s super science and giant alien robots. This movie of alien invasion is due to humans inability to keep Earth safe. So, what do you do when there is a threat to welfare of mankind and conservation? No, you do not call the army and blow up the problem, as you might see in the feature film coming out this December. You become an environmentalist, and do your part to help save the planet.

It’s the planet or mankind. Someones gotta go. AWESOME. For those of you living under a rock, this film is a remake of the 1951 classic. Although this one’s special effects will completely outdo the older films, it’s always worth watching a classic before the remake. The films stars Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, and Kathy Bates. I LOVE that they went with Kathy Bates for this role. It’s like they wanted real actors or something.

Woo. This is pretty cool. Yahoo! Movies has just released a new 5-min. extended international trailer for the sci-fi classic remake The Day The Earth Stood Still starring Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, and Kathy Bates. I have to say, I wasn’t too excited about this film. The 1951 film was a classic, and I think classic should be left alone. But this trailer looks pretty f-ing cool.
Check it out the trailer and still from the film below the jump. What do you think? Continue Reading
