Few things make a reunion tour less appealing as the passing of a key member, and Monty Python – much like The Beatles after John Lennon was assassinated – have done little together as a group since Graham Chapman died of cancer in 1989. Much of the cast have worked together since, but the only time the five living members got together was for an appearance in 1998 at the Aspen Comedy Festival. But now, according to Variety, Terry Jones has roped together the group to voice aliens in his upcoming movie Absolutely Anything.

Jones has been the group’s primary filmmaker for their projects together, having directed all the Python films proper (co-directing with Terry Gilliam for Monty Python and the Holy Grail), though he did not go on to the success that Gilliam achieved with such films as Time Bandits and Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This would be his first film in over fifteen years.

Currently, Eric Idle is the only hold-out, with Michael Palin, Gilliam, and John Cleese having already signed on. The only thing then keeping this from happening is age-old resentments (which I wouldn’t write off), and it would give the film a geek cache that would surely make it profitable. Jones has been working on the script for two decades, and it sounds like all that would be required of the Python members would be to function as voice actors. But getting together that group will surely inspire some notable comic figures past and present to cameo in the film – Robin Williams has already signed on to voice a talking dog. Production is set to start this spring.

Lemon Curry?

A lot of news can fall through the cracks during a week… and we’re here at ScreenCrave with a helpful news roundup to vacuum it all up and then empty it all the news bits out onto your lap. And if you think that metaphor was weird/ disturbing, just check out the next one after the jump, it’s even more horrifically odd.

I’m kidding. I just wanted you to open up this post. Me: 1. You: 0. Advantage, mine! (I’m really sorry, it’s early and there’s been a lot of Red Bull this morning. Forgive me). Dig the news below:

Ain’t It Cool News has taken some time out from their incredibly awesome movie geekery to post a massive amount of links for organizations helping with the post-earthquake/ tsunami situation in Japan. Do a good thing and check them out, and then do an even better thing by donating some money.

Unreality Magazine has listed the seven best films of Terry Gilliam. Part of me wants to trash this list for noting that Monty Python the Holy Grail somehow isn’t funny (are you kidding me!?), but they do reserve very high placement for criminally underrated 12 Monkeys, so I’m torn. Curse you, internet, and your bevy of highly debatable and ultimately meaningless lists! Curse you!

StyleCrave noted that yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day, a day when people traditionally wear green. They also happened upon the coincidental fact that Eva Green’s last name is—gasp!—Green! And thus, an excuse for a photo post of a super-hot actress was born.

Dimewars has it that Robert De Niro is set to take a break from films that utterly destroy his legacy in order to testify in a case against Leigh Morse, who allegedly illegally sold artwork by De Niro’s father.

MovieLine has the scoop on the latest American Idol axing. Let’s pretend to care together.

Finally, BeatCrave’s got a cute clip of Jimmy Fallon doing a killer Van Morrison impression.

Did we miss anything? Let us know!

Releasing a film is a delicate art that try as I might, I never truly understand. Who would think that Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Heath Ledger‘s final film, directed by Terry Gilliam one of the creative minds in Hollywood, with a supporting cast that includes three of the hottest men in Hollywood, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell would be difficult to get into theaters? Are blue-flying cat people all audiences can think about? Because Gilliam might have some in floating around in the background of this dream-like fantasy!

Although we reviewed the film and posted our interview with Terry Gilliam weeks ago and told you to go and see it, it was only playing in a grand total of 4 theaters in both LA and NY combined. Many of you complained and rightly so! But your cries have been heard (proving that you have a say as to what’s in theaters, NOT just studios) and starting this week on January 8th, the film will finally make its way into 500 theaters around the US for audiences to enjoy!

Below is a full list of theaters that will be playing Gilliam’s ”fantastical morality tale.” Enjoy…

When you think of a Terry Gilliam film, wild images, colors and creations come to mind. As Gilliam walked into the intimate press conference that was held for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, you could tell his personality is just as unique as his films. He walked in, wearing a patterned button down shirt, his hair was loosely tied back in a ponytail, and he went straight to the window and looked out to admire the view from the 9th floor of the Four Seasons. With a smile he sat down and with open arms welcomed questions of all sorts.

He spoke openly and freely, perfectly aware of what others have said about him, both good and bad, and unafraid to talk about anything we were willing to bring up. He spoke about his goals as a film-maker, how he always tries to create an experience for his audience to take in and not necessarily analyze. Most importantly the tries to create films for people to enjoy.

There were of course questions asked about Heath Ledger’s final performance and Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell stepping in to finish the film. What was beautiful was that Gilliam didn’t skirt the issue but answered the questions honestly, showing that there are no dark secrets to Ledger’s death and that he more than anyone saw the beauty in Ledger’s talents and misses him dearly…

Terry, there is no way of watching your movie without thinking about the way imagination is being cut off from the world because everybody now is so addicted to the internet and computers and then you go the opposite way and show that the mind is still a brilliant place to be. Having said that, where does this inspiration come from? Is it contrary to this world that we are living in technologically?

TG: Well I think…the biggest thing I find is we are so overwhelmed by information now and the media pours in, the internet pours in. I don’t know how people maintain their own individual identity anymore and how you imagine your own world because it’s that. I don’t know. I was lucky. I grew up living in the country with only radio so I’d imagine a lot of things and that’s, I think, where it comes from. It’s like with my son. We’ve got a house in Italy and there’s no television, there’s no telephone, and when he was younger, we’d go there and he’d be bored for the first couple days. No PlayStation – “Where’s the stuff?!” It’s doing all the work for him. And I said, “Wait for him.” About two days into it he starts making things with a stick and then there’s a little bit of this and suddenly he’s come alive and he’s inventing a world and he’s playing. That’s fantastic.

I’m really trying to get people to just kind of switch. We used to be able to say “I want people to switch off.” And my biggest thing now is everything is about networking and connections and blah, blah, blah. Mine is about aloneness. I’m trying to get people to learn to be alone. Turn it all off. Just be with yourself and see what’s there, see if there’s anybody home or whether you’re just a neuron or a synaptic gap is what you may be.

So then how do you do about trying to turn that switch for an audience?

TG: Well I throw a lot of shit in there in front of you and hopefully it might spark off a few things. My attitude is, I just do that. I throw you around and you may come out and say, “Oh, well I saw that” or “I didn’t see that.” I don’t know. What I’m trying not to do is give answers and hopefully ask some questions, offer possibilities, but get out before I waste too much of your time.

With the sad passing of Heath Ledger, how did you come up with the idea to finish the film?

TG: Once you decide to carry on, which is the hard part, you say “Alright, he goes through the mirror three times. Three actors.” On just a totally pragmatic level, there was no way to get one actor to replace Heath. I didn’t want to do that anyway. And there’s no way to get a great actor to turn up at the last moment. We’re making a movie. People have schedules. They’re all busy working. The fact we were able to squeeze Johnny, Colin and Jude’s schedule into our schedule in some way was kind of a miracle and so you needed a chance. You’ve got three possibilities out there and it was actually just more interesting as well. I thought you needed three A-list actors to replace Heath. He was that good. That was my attitude. But once you make the decision that people’s faces can change on the other side of the mirror, that was basically simple. I didn’t rewrite much. There’s a lot of little things that I’ve done but nothing of any substance. Everything you hear – the dialogue was all written before. That speech that Johnny gives about the young dying, some people think there’s a eulogy to Heath. No. That was written. This film was about mortality. That’s the great irony of the whole thing — mortality being a central part of the story and look what happens. I supposed one’s got to be careful of what one writes at times.

When they go into the mirror, did you ever consider, aside from Heath, changing the other actors as well so that you’d have more of a through line.

TG: No, because what’s going on there, you get two things happening. You go through the mirror – let’s do the Johnny scene for a moment. Here’s my logic, my reasoning for what we do. So, you go through and you’re actually in the imagination of the woman, the Louis Vuitton woman as we call her. Shoes, the temple of shoes, giant shoes with a Buddha for shoe enlightenment ultimately. Enlightenment through shopping is what we’re offering there. And suddenly this guy turns up, “That’s the guy. I dreamed you would look like that.” That’s a line that I added. I added that line to explain. She has dreamed he looks like that so now he can be that. Now, okay, he looks like her dream boy but when he’s dancing around, suddenly Lily is back in there, because he still fancies Valentina and she’s wise. So now we’re in his imagination with Valentina floating in the air. It’s this idea that we’ve got two imaginations at work. First, it’s hers and she transforms Tony into that, into Johnny, and then he’s dancing around saying “Whoa! Here’s this babe floating in the air” and it’s Valentina and she’s looking really nice. That’s the idea of what’s happening there.

With the three actors, how much did you want them to emulate Heath because you could really tell they were playing his role? How much did you want them to do something more?

TG: No. I just – what we did is I gave them all – number one, I chose people who were close friends of Heath’s so they know Heath. So that’s to start. And then we gave them all DVDs of what we’d been able to assemble of what Heath had done so they can see what he was doing, how he was moving and how he was talking and everything. And then, they arrived. No time to rehearse. Do it. I know, it’s really brave of them. It’s extraordinarily brave because they could have just fallen flat on their faces. I thought out maybe this was the way we could pull this thing off. I wasn’t certain. And they just came in and got to work. Johnny, we had one day and 3-1/2 hours – that’s all – to do everything he did. I watched it the other day and said “How the fuck did we do that?” But it’s that kind of – because he came, he was totally on the ball, we just started shooting. That’s what’s wonderful because I think as actors they all got to escape from their own egos. They suddenly were doing something for Heath outside themselves and they just breathed Heath in and spewed him out.

Your stories are always very visual, almost like a fairytale but grounded in the real world. Is that how you would describe it?

TG: Yeah, I think that’s probably true. I don’t analyze what I do. I just kind of do it. You’re probably a better judge of what I do than what I think. It is a fairy tale quality. To me, when I look at my films – I was watching this one the other day silently and it actually works as a silent film, surprisingly. You can actually follow the story. You don’t need to know all the words. You get the basics – it’s the bad guy, it’s the good guy. I was really quite amazed because I was happily watching these images and it was like a child watching a storybook with beautiful drawings in it. It’s like – I don’t know – I haven’t seen The Wild Thing (Where the Wild Things Are) but that Maurice Sendak book, each image you could spend hours in there looking at it and I kind of want to do that on my films. Freeze a frame and spend regular time watching it and looking at it.

Having such a great body of work, I was just curious if you could talk about how things have changed for you as a filmmaker? Maybe a pro and con in terms of how things have changed for you over the years?

TG: Oh I wish they had changed. It feels exactly the same as when I started. Every one is the first film I’ve ever made. Every one is hard to get off the ground. For instance, with this film, when I come out to Hollywood to try to beg for money, and I go into the offices and they say, “Oh Terry! We’ve loved every film you’ve done. Oh God, we’re huge fans. But this one I’m not sure about.” I’ve heard that for 25 years. The list gets longer of films they’ve loved but the word after “but” is always the same. It doesn’t change. I mean, Nietzsche was wrong. What doesn’t kill you doesn’t make you stronger. It just makes you more tired. That’s my problem.

Being a very artistic director, can you tell the difference between when you started drawing and the draw that we have nowadays? It looks like the type of art that you’re used to doing kind of lost its place and now it’s all 3-D. How do you relate to that? It seems only in your movie is there space for your kind of art. Do you agree with that?

TG: Yeah, but it’s just because I’m running the show. I make space for my art. I think what’s happening with so much CG work, especially in the live action films, is trying to be naturalistic. The world might be fantastical. It might be extraordinary, but it’s naturalistic and that doesn’t interest me. I thought what we can do here is to do more of a painterly world. I suppose it’s live action with Pixar backgrounds. It’s a bit more like that. I just want that freedom. What we’re doing in Parnassus was being very pragmatic, knowing we don’t have the kind of money to compete with an $80/90/100 million film. So we have got the mirror. You go through for a brief moment and get out before we spend too much money and that’s how we’re able to do it. But also, the other thing about the big films is after 10 or 15 minutes you accept that world as normal and then you’ve got another couple hours to keep spending a lot of money to make this normal world. So, to me, it was more interesting to be able to get in and out and each time you changed the world on the other side of the mirror so it’s a constant surprise. It’s kind of a constant delight. What next?

You’re always the guy that surprises us. What surprises you?

Oh, actors surprise me. I’m always begging for surprises. Well Heath did the big one. That was the kind of surprise I don’t need, but he surprised me.

Future Projects:

You’ve been considering Good Omens as a project. That falls into a game of one-up-manship between the Devil and God or the forces of God. Did this grow out of this interest you had in that sort of conflict?

TG: Well it’s always been there. I went to Occidental College on a Presbyterian scholarship. I mean, the Devil has always been there in that kind of good and evil, right and wrong, the right choice, the wrong choice, all of those things has always obsessed me all of my life. That’s why I was interested in Good Omens and that’s why we wrote this. The same obsessions have been pursuing me all my life and sometimes I get them out.

Do you think you may yet do Good Omens one day or did you sort of exorcise that yearning with this film?

TG: No, no. It’s still sitting out there. It needs a lot of money though. I mean it’s a very different story. Admittedly, okay, there’s an angel and the Devil but it’s very different and it’s whether I can find somebody who wants to take charge of that project. One of the things is that and another project sort of got mired in costs of things and now it’s very hard to get those films moving because they’ve got a price tag on them before you even begin now. So, one day, if somebody gets interested, it’s waiting.

Do you see yourself working with Johnny Depp in the future?

TG: Anytime he’s available I’m ready to work with him. He’s a very busy boy though. His dance card is full. He’s got a swash and buckle for another couple years.

Gilliam left with a smile on his face, signed a few posters, and wished everyone the best. His film will hit theaters Christmas Day and is not to be missed!

The Man Who Killed Don Quixote is one of the most drawn out non-features to ever be created. A couple of months ago director Terry Gilliam stated that he had found the actor he wanted to portray the part of Quixote in the film, but he planned on keeping his identity a secret. Now, according to Collider its been revealed that the actor in question is Oscar winner, Robert Duvall!

According to Frosty, while interviewing Duvall for his upcoming movie Crazy Heart, he got a major casting scoop. The actor revealed that Gilliam wants him to play the title character in The Man Who Killed Don Quixote. Duvall went on to say that his casting and the production of the film all depends on whether or not Gilliam can raise enough money.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus hits theaters this Christmas, and if there’s a positive commercial response to it, Gilliam may get his wish. The only downside is the amount of competition that will be present at the box office that week. Parnassus will have to go up against a thousand Oscar winning actors in Nine, and the charismatic Robert Downey Jr. in Sherlock Holmes. The film’s chances look slim.

Have you ever sat in a theater and watched a film that went on for entirely too long? For me, Zack Snyder‘s Watchmen comes to mind, but there’s something out there that makes that movie look like a 10 minute short. According to The Telegraph, the world’s longest film will be screened over in France later this month and again early next year, and you won’t believe how long it is.

Back in 1978, Cinematon began and featured three and a half minute segments of footage from celebrities, artists, philosophers and journalists, as well as young children. It was filmed by Gerard Courant, who wanted to capture the thoughts of his artistic friends. Ever since then, the film has been an ongoing project and this year it will finally be screened for audiences.

Cinematon clocks in at 150 hours, and has taken over 30 years to make it to the theater. The film features plenty of actors, musicians and directors including The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus helmer, Terry Gilliam and Oscar winner Roberto Benigni. The entire project highlights a specific person for under four minutes per segment and allows them to do whatever they want within that time frame.

“Courant only intended to film 100 short portraits and edit them together for his project, but it proved so popular that he kept filming.” Because of his interest and desire to keep filming we have an 150 hour behemoth that will literally take days to get through. No matter how interesting the subject matter, it will be surprising to see how people get through this thing.

Would you watch an 150 hour film?

It is finally upon us – as I type the crowds are thronged outside the Grauman’s Chinese Theater on Hollywood Boulevard for the American Film Institute Film Festival Opening Gala and North American Premiere of Wes Anderson’s stop-motion fable Fantastic Mr Fox (already covered by Screencrave from the London Film Festival – ahead of the game as usual).

Taking place all this week, largely at the Mann 6 Cinemas in the Hollywood & Highland Center, with special screenings at the Chinese and some in Santa Monica next weekend for the American Film Market, there’s plenty to see this year. But be warned – it’s going to be busy! Festival sponsors Audi have, remarkably, provided all tickets for free. Which means naturally that that they’ve all been pre-booked. But fear not, for there are standby lines opening an hour before each screening, and unclaimed seats are up for grabs fifteen minutes before the show starts. And this being LA how many people who pre-booked tickets are actually going to turn up do you reckon?

The full list is on the AFI website and it all looks pretty good, but there’s a handful of titles about which I am really excited (Sunday is a particularly good day):

Tonight at 9.30pm: Everyone Else, a German film that has gotten rave reports from Europe, exploring a young couple’s relationship in light of another couple they meet on holiday. Truthful and daring, it won the Grand Jury Prize at Berlin.

Saturday at 7pm: Mother, the latest from The Host director Bong Joon Ho continues to uphold the high reputation of contemporary South Korean cinema in a crime thriller featuring a mother as amateur detective, trying to clear the name of her son. More good festival reports, from Cannes and Karlovy Vary

Sunday 4.15pm (also on Friday at 1pm in Santa Monica): Police, Adjective seems to have been the most impressive film on the European festival circuit so far, a thriller of sorts, but also a philosophical examination of language. Romanian cinema is on a roll right now and if this is any indication, only getting better.

Sunday 7pm: White Ribbon won the Palme d’Or at Cannes and it looks for once as though Michael Haneke may be holding his haughty contempt for the audience in check (*he *calls it “respect”). Mysterious and sinister goings-on in a German village in the years leading up to WWI point fingers at the social mindset soon to be seduced by national socialism (but does not, non-spoiler alert, reveal the source of the aforementioned mysteries. He’s still got to piss some people off apparently).

Sunday 10.30pm: Castro is a short and fast-paced hunt through Buenos Aires for a missing person, described as a cross between Samuel Beckett and Mack Sennett, and reputed to be one of the best films from the very exciting alternative cinema scene in Argentina right now (I am still recommending Historias Extraordinarias to anyone who will listen. Or can find it…)

Monday at 7pm, Centerpiece Gala: The Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus is the movie in the middle of making which Heath Ledger popped his clogs. So director Terry Gilliam replaced him with Johnny Depp, Jude Law and Colin Farrell, playing alongside Christopher Plummer, Lily Cole (rather good, apparently), Verne Troyer and Tom Waits as the devil (excellent!). A traveling magic show features a magical mirror and lots of freaky stuff and no-one seems to want to come out and say if it’s any cop or not, just that it’s a Terry Gilliam film and that he’s back on top eccentric form. Which is good enough for me.

Tuesday at 7pm: I Killed My Mother generated loads of buzz at Cannes, in part because it was written, directed by and stars French-Canadian first-timer Xavier Dolan, who’s a mere 20 years old, and in part because it is actually rather impressive, a caustic and tender tale of familial and (homo)sexual relationships.

Tuesday at 10.15pm: Youth In Revolt. My sister said “I am so over Michael Cera” approximately 15 minutes before seeing the preview for this and her decision was instantly reversed. He plays a nerdy young man (you don’t say) who, to win the love of the girl next door, invents a smooth and unbridled (and mustachioed) alter ego whom only he can see. Much chaos and hilarity ensues; the trailer is, indeed, pretty funny.

Wednesday at 7pm: The Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans is not a remake of the Abel Ferrara film but does feature Nic Cage as a very badly-behaved police lieutenant, as directed with gloriously surreal touches by Werner Herzog. I got a screening of it last night and it is very funny, hugely enjoyable and Nic Cage is back on wonderfully insane form.

Thursday at 7pm: A Single Man is directed by ex-Gucci head Tom Ford (his first) and stars Colin Firth as a bereaved gay man in 60s LA. More terrific word of mouth from Europe and Oscar buzz for Firth, it’s reported to be arty (in a good way) and deeply moving.

But don’t take my word (entirely..) for it – take a look at the calendar, go stand in line, and enjoy high quality films from all over the world, many of which will never get near a North American release. And do it for free! Full details at AFI.com.

Hello everyone in LA, it’s Ben here, reporting from London. Now as some of you already know, Terry Gilliam’s new film The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus is already out in the UK, and it will not be out in America until Christmas Day. So here is a ‘First Look’ of the film for all of you to have have to wait. Also, know that this piece is 100% Spoiler Free…

For those of you who don’t know the story it’s about a man named Doctor Parnassus (Christopher Plummer) who leads a traveling theatre troupe who literally transport audiences into a realm of strange wonders. But he risks losing the soul of his daughter in a bet with the devil that newcomer Tony (Heath Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, Colin Farrell) might help or hinder.

Good Points

The look of the film is utterly infectious, you get caught in the set design, Doctor Parnassus’s carriage, the costumes and the imaginary sequences. Even though is an independent production, it looks absolutely fantastic.

We all know what happened to film when Heath Ledger suddenly passed away in January 2008, which left the film in limbo for months. The film has come up with a simple yet effective way to carry on the story after his death, it has created three different versions of Tony depending on which side of the mirror he’s on. It is nice to see people like Jude Law, Johnny Depp and Colin Farrell turning up in the film to voice their support, not just for Heath Ledger but for Terry Gilliam, and they all turn in good performances, although they all try to channel Ledger’s original’s performance, which is more successful in some cases than others.

Bad Points

This might just be me, or possibly everyone else who has seen the film, but I just didn’t get the film. I was so confused by it that I just didn’t know what to think about it. This is a film that will demand its audience to see it numerous times just to find out if the story works or not.

Overall

This isn’t Terry Gilliam’s best film, due to the plot problems. But it is no less imaginative, and it is a testament to Terry Gilliam’s perseverance to overcome the tragedy that bestowed this production.

I have to say I’m a bit disappointed by the latest poster for Terry Gilliam‘s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. It’s not horrible and is definitely worth checking out but something about it is lacking and I can’t put my finger on it. A video has also popped up online showing various promoters of the film in the U.K. spreading the word out about the feature the old fashioned way.

Check out the poster and the video…

This poster is lacking in my opinion. Even though the concentration on Lily Cole is warranted due to her part in the film’s story, what about the other actors? They all seem so small in comparison…literally. And once again, why isn’t Jude Law in character on the poster? In the trailer he has a ponytail like the other actors and on the poster he’s sporting his regular do. It’s distracting.

I do respect these people for going out and showing their wholehearted support, because I’m also a fan of Terry Gilliam’s films. On another note, I have to admit the jab at The Dark Knight was so unnecessary. No one is trying to take away Heath Ledger’s involvement in Parnassus, but TDK was his last completed film. I feel that one of the commenters in the video thought his performance as the Joker has gotten all the credit in that department. Besides that little tirade, this was an interesting find.

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus hits theaters on December 25th in the U.S.

What do you think of the latest poster for Doctor Parnassus? What do you think of the promoters in the video?

Terry Gilliam‘s The Man Who Killed Don Quixote has been defunct for years, as chronicled in the documentary Lost in La Mancha. The film was the victim of every negative circumstance in the book, with the major one being casting. Over time, Don Quixote has been in limbo waiting for the opportunity to be made. Over at Empire, director Gilliam revealed that he’s found his Don Quixote and the film will go on as planned.

While out promoting his latest film, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Gilliam let a major Don Quixote update slip.

“We’re up and running again, we’ve rewritten the script and finally got it back, the budget’s come in… and I think we’ve found our Quixote! But who’s it going to be? Well, I’m not going to tell you, but it’ll start next Spring.”

Who could it be?! The original actor cast in the part was Jean Rochefort. As a native of France he spent seven months learning English for the role, which was cut short by health complications. Johnny Depp was also set to star in the film, but he dropped out due to scheduling conflicts with upcoming projects. It sounds like the director will be starting from scratch, which might be what this project needs.

Who do you think should play Don Quixote?

A new trailer has debuted for Terry Gilliam‘s The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
This movie looks utterly beautiful! I need the score to this film on my mp3 player asap. The music is just as epic as the visuals, and the cast does an excellent job of working with such mystical material. On a side note, is it just me or does Johnny Depp give off a Jack Sparrow vibe when he speaks towards the end of the trailer? Perhaps, I have Pirates of the Caribbean on the brain, but I was expecting him to follow up his line with, “saavy.”

The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus hits theaters on December 25th, 2009.

Over an Empire, they’ve got an exclusive first look at the official poster for The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. Like many of you, this film has been on my radar for a very long time. It hits theaters domestically this Christmas, and features the final performance of Heath Ledger. The poster highlights all four actors who carry the lead role of Tony the carnie, as played by Ledger, Johnny Depp, Jude Law, and Colin Farrell.

Check out the beautiful poster for Doctor Parnassus…

Isn’t this gorgeous? The only issue I have with this poster is Jude Law. In all the scenes of him featured in the trailer, he has a ponytail, but here his hair it cut short. Continuity issues? I will admit his ponytail looked a bit unnatural and this suits him better, but come on Jude take one for the team.

The poster also features co-stars Christopher Plummer, Lily Cole, and Tom Waits. The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus is directed by Terry Gilliam.

What do you think of the first poster for the film?
