Tower Heist is no longer going to have a limited release VOD launch three weeks after release. Universal first floated the idea, as we reported, and then Cinemark and many independent exhibitors balked at the idea, and told Universal that they would refuse to show the movie. But if the studios want to go in this direction, it’s possible they will work out some title to try this with in the near future. We’ve also got release dates for Taken 2, and what’s been recently renewed, and a great picture after the jump. Check it out…

takenalp5 11 09 UPDATED: Taken 2 Now Coming With Liam Neeson, Not Without

When Taken came out in January of 2009, it was not expected to be a runaway success. In fact, it was an action movie going up against the Super Bowl. But the film became an honest-to-goodness word-of-mouth hit. Liam Neeson was reborn as an action star – leading to The A-Team and Unknown – and the film made $145 Million at the box office. A sequel was assured and spoken of repeatedly. Earlier today Deadline Hollywood wanted to throw some cold water on that fire, reporting that either the film would go forward without Neeson, or shoot in another year. Now it appears that those contract disputes have been resolved, and shooting is to begin either at the end of the year or the start of 2012

takenalp5 11 09 Liam Neeson Confirmed for Taken 2, TV Series on the Way

Liam Neeson has been all about action films ever since Taken debuted in theaters early last year. It was a sleeper hit, and became somewhat of a cult phenomenon. He followed that performance with Zeus from Clash of the Titans and Hannibal in The A-Team, now he’s returning to his vengeful roots in the sequel Taken 2. Yes, it is happening.

Weekend Box Office: Chick Flicks Rule Taken Drools

boxofficeme09 2 09 Weekend Box Office: Chick Flicks Rule Taken Drools

Well it looks like the women have decided this weekends box office top film. Never have I seen more hoards of men-less woman (aside from Sex and the City) filling in the theaters to see He’s Just Not That Into You. There are plenty of things for a guy to enjoy in this movie (Scarlett Johnspn with almost nothing on anyone?) but I don’t think they’re willing to risk it. They need to get one to go and the rest will follow. Coraline made it to number three this week, which is pretty damn good for a stop-frame animation. Hell it beat out all the other movies opening this weekend including The Pink Panther 2 and Push.

boxofficeme09 2 02 Weekend Box Office: Blart Has Been Defeated by Taken

Surprise, surprise. Taken has taken the box office. It took Liam Neeson being a bad-ass hitman who beats people up to apparently knock Paul Blart: Mall Cop off his pedestal. I won’t say that Taken is the greatest film, but at the moment I’m just happy to see something new at the top.

Review: Taken is Everything You Need, Not Want

taken09 1 28 Review: Taken is Everything You Need, Not Want

Albanian terrorist sex trafficking young girls through Paris, check. An incredibly capable and pissed off father, check. A fully rewarding movie with excitement and danger around every turn… not so much. TAKEN has almost everything you could want in a high suspense action flick. I say almost because as was confirmed by other critics in a special midnight screening, ” it was good, but it could have been better”.

Liam Neeson stars as Bryan Mills, a recently retired CIA agent who wants nothing more than to make up for lost time and build a relationship with his now teenage daughter Kim (Maggie Grace). With some guilt ridden coercing from his bitter ex wife played by Famke Janssen, he reluctantly agrees to let her travel to Paris for a fun summer adventure. And as you might have guessed if you’ve seen the trailer, that’s when things go terribly wrong.

moviereleases09 1 29 Movie Releases: Taken, New in Town, The Uninvited, The Class

Well here is the good news. Taken looks like it’s going to be bad-ass and they’re re-releasing The Class into theaters. Well into, some theaters, but do your part and go see the film this weekend and more people mat be able to see it in the coming weeks. There are subtitles but don’t be scared. As for the rest. It’s so sad because when I look at this list all I can this is (sh*t) Paul Blart may do it again.

Check out the trailers below…
