‘The Expendables 2′ Trailer Features Stallone, Willis, Schwarzenegger, Norris, Van Damme And More

Brace yourselves, folks—you are about to witness the most testosterone-heavy 60 second clip you have ever, or likely will ever, witness. Seriously, this thing is the visual equivalent of eating a pound of raw meat, going to the gym for an hour, and then challenging a stranger to a bloody streetfight. Also, like those things, it’s kind of really dumb (but in a fun way). What am I referring to, you ask? The Expendables 2 trailer.

Honestly, you have to peep this clip to believe it, with its near-comic avalanche of clips featuring cinema’s most muscle-bound and steroid-pumped action heroes, with many returning from the last film, along with a few new faces, including the bearded visage of Chuck Norris (!), along with Jean-Claude van Damme as the film’s villain.

So what did you think? Ridiculous, no? Honestly, the trailer feels like it’s bordering on some kind of online fanfic by combining all of these new and old action stars into one film together, but, that said, it may end up being strangely hypnotizing and watchable, like the previous film, which was simply too silly not to enjoy.

The Expendables 2 will hit theaters in 2012.

Stuntman Killed On ‘The Expendables 2′ Set, Another Critically Injured

Sad news to report today. During a second unit filming of an explosion effect for the upcoming and wholly necessary Expendables sequel, one stuntman was critically wounded while another, unfortunately, died instantly in the accident in the pyrotechnics accident.

Apparently “the two victims were reportedly in a rubber boat atop Bulgaria’s Ognyanovo water reservoir when the bomb mishap occurred,” leaving one stuntman dead, and the other “in serious condition.” The names of the stuntmen are currently being withheld out of respect to their families, according to a representative for the production.

During the accident, Expendables 2 (which could seriously use a better action movie title; something along the lines of Expendables 2: Expendables Harder, or Expendables II: Seriously Stallone, We Get It, You’re Glad To Be Back, We Get It) director Simon West and the principle cast and crew “were several hours away at the time, filming in Bansko.”

Nu Image/Millennium Films, the production company for Expendables 2, released the following statement about the tragedy:

“It is with great regret that we confirm this unfortunate accident. Our hearts go out to the families and those on the production affected by this tragedy. The filmmakers are working closely with the authorities in responding to and investigating this accident.”

It is currently unknown whether the surviving stuntman will pull through. We’ll post updates as they happen.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Tweets Expendables 2 Photo

Twitter, now a place for movie news! Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently shooting The Expendables 2 in Bulgaria and is reuniting with his costars Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone for his scenes. How do we know? Schwarzenegger tweeted this picture to confirm it. The film is scheduled to open in August 2012.

Willis suggested his part would be bigger in the second film, though with this picture it suggests that he and Arnie will share a similar role in this movie, at least from the outset. Schwarzenegger is currently in pre-production on his next film – Last Stand – but as he’s no longer the governor of California, he should have much more free time.

The IMDb is currently filled with interesting rumored casting, most likely untrue (currently the page lists Nicholas Cage and John Travolta), though it is known that Jean Claude Van Damme and Liam Hemsworth will be joining the cast that includes returning cast members Stallone and Jason Statham. The first film grossed $103 Million domestically, and $274 Million worldwide, which explains the sequel. The biggest cahnge for this film is that while Stallone wrote, directed and starred in the last film, this time he’s handed off the directing duties to Simon West, and is not currently credited with the screenplay.

Oh, sweet lord. It looks like The Expendables 2 is set to launch the highest combination of Viagra and steroids on movies screens, well, ever—Deadline reports that Sylvester Stallone-starring sequel to the 2010 surprise hit is finally going to give in to every action fanboy wishlist that was crafted anytime between 1984 and 1989: the film will co-star Arnold Schwarzenegger. And Bruce Willis. And Chuck Norris. And Jean-Claude Van Damme.

Also rumored to appear is—sigh—John Travolta (hey, they can’t all be winners).

The AV Club also reports that many familiar faces will be flexing their collectively performance-enhanced physiques on screen:

“Along with the returning Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, and Jet Li—as well as the more modern additions Jason Statham, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews—Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, and John Travolta are also reportedly on board… And of course, there’s still plenty of time for more rumor-mongering over who might also find their way into the nostalgia kickline, a sprawling list that includes everyone from Mr. T and Hulk Hogan to Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, from Lorenzo Lamas and Jeff Speakman to Carl Weathers and Charlie Sheen.”

Seriously—if a film is released next year starring Sly Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Mr. T, Hulk Hogan, and Lorenzo freakin’ Lamas, it will officially be the most manly moment in history.

‘The Expendables 2′ Gets A 2012 Release Date

Oh boy oh boy oh boy—as a fan of good bad movies, this news warms my bitter, cheesy movie-loving heart—The Expendables 2: Help Stallone Cash In All The Chips He Possibly Can During This Brief And Inexplicable Resurgence Of His Popularity has been given an official release date for next year, meaning that 2012 is going to be the best year of my moving-going life.

According /Film, The Expendables 2 will be punching theaters in the face before shooting them mercilessly with a fully-automatic weapon and then detonating an explosive over there celluloid carcasses on August 17, 2012, aka, the most amazing day ever. There is relative little competition that week, and G.I. Joe 2: Jesus Christ, They Made A Goddamn Sequel? will be coming to theaters the week before, on August 10.

Thus far, a director for the sequel has yet to be named (Stallone’s sitting out of the director’s chair this time), and the film was written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. No official confirmation of the cast yet—outside of Stallone—but rumors run rampant from a returning Jason Statham to—sigh—Charlie Sheen. Only time, and a healthy does of human growth hormones, will tell.

Sylvester Stallone to Design Clothes Inspired by Rambo and Rocky

Or: Gym, tanning, Rambo. Sylvester Stallone has developed a menswear, perfume and accessories company named Sly, Inc. and has told Men’s Health Week that the clothes will be inspired by his two most popular characters, John Rambo and Rocky Balboa. The products will be available sometime next year. Stallone was moved to fashion design after losing weight for the last Rambo film.

Though on its head this seems absurd, that’s mostly because of how the culture views Stallone. No one really laughs at Jay-Z and his Roca-Wear brand, even both seem unqualified to be fashion designers. Having no idea what these clothes look like, there may be some assumption that Rocky and Rambo-inspired clothing would be similar to the “three wolf moon” shirt, it’s hard to say or know if it will be any better or worse than anything Ed Hardy does.

And the Ed Hardy market seems to be the audience for this line: reasonably affordable men’s clothing that has the Stallone branding. As long as these clothes aren’t sold exclusively at K-Mart or Target and as long as they look good, they’re more than likely to find an audience – ironically or unironically.

Perhaps this explains why he isn’t going to direct The Expendables 2. One hopes that the influences of his famous characters leads to a pretty boss Rocky III shirt.

Sylvester Stallone Won’t Write or Direct The Expendables 2?

Could you image The Expendables without Sylvester Stallone being involved in every little part of the development and production process? The man owned the 80′s action genre of which the movie payed homage to so it only seems right that he would pen and direct the sequel. Unfortunately, 24 Frames claims that Stallone might be handing off those reigns to someone else. What’s up with that?

The site says that The Expendables 2 is a high priority project for Millennium Films, where Stallone is currently meeting with possible directors to helm it. The script for the new movie has been written by David Agosto and Ken Kaufman. Kaufman previously penned the Clint Eastwood film Space Cowboys and Curious George (we don’t know how we feel about this one).

The Expendables was an indie film that took a risk on a group of oldies but goodies from the action genre and it became a huge hit. It debuted at number one and stayed there for two weeks. It grossed $275-million worldwide against an initial investment of $80 million. We’re not sure if all of the remaining cast members will return for the sequel, but we do know Stallone is on board to star. Too bad he won’t direct.

Charlie Sheen Could Appear in The Expendables 2

Charlie Sheen has once again found himself in the middle of some negative press thanks to his behind the scenes antics. He’s currently going through some personal drama, but still has his TV show “Two and a Half Men” to keep him warm at night. Unfortunately, any semblance of his once fledgling film career has vanished and at times like these there’s only one person to call, Todd Phill — Sylvester Stallone!

According to What is Playing, Sheen may be up for a role in Stallone’s follow up to the summer smash, The Expendables. The sequel will feature several new faces and there’s a good chance that Sheen might be one of them. Apparently Stallone and Sheen became close buds after Sheen played a parody of his character Rambo in the comedy Hot Shots: Part Deux.

Sources claim that Sheen might be up for the role of “a washed-up-but-useful CIA type” who’s on the hunt for Bruce Willis‘ character Mr. Church. This begs the question, has Mr. Church gone rogue? In the first film it seemed as if he was one of the good guys. Maybe he has his own agenda in The Expendables 2?

Sylvester Stallone Has The Expendables Sequel Plotted Out

Whenever a movie debuts at number one over the box office weekend, sequel talk immediately rears its ugly head. Sylvester Stallone’s latest flick, The Expendables crushed the competition last weekend by earning $35 million, which is quite a feat considering the the acting was so-so and the plot was non-existent. But let’s be serious, who was in it for those reasons? People saw the movie because they wanted to watch sh*t get blown up and that’s exactly what happened. Now there are rumors that Stallone might be up for another round with the cast, is The Expendables Part 2 in the works?

In a recent interview, Stallone revealed that he has an idea of where he wants The Expendables story to go if he decides to shoot a sequel.

It’s plotted out in my mind’s eye. I believe this group has to continue to evolve; it just can’t become the same people. So how do you get new people introduced into the group, and how do you have some of the other people leaving? Those are the challenges.

Do you know what that sounds like to us? It sounds like he wants to switch out certain stars with some who were unable to appear in the original. We’re thinking Kurt Russell, Jean Claude Van Damme, Steven Seagal (if he cooperates), Chuck Norris, and maybe Michael Jai White. It would be awesome if Blade aka Wesley Snipes could be a part of it too but he has his hands tied at the moment.

After revisiting Rocky and Rambo, Sylvester Stallone made it his business to go out and produce the manliest film of all time. The Expendables is a huge balls-to-the-wall production filled with bullets, fists, and fire. He takes some of the top action stars of yesterday and today and creates an elite team of deadly “good guys” who have no problem ripping out someone’s throat if the occasion calls for it. This film is over the top, extremely violent, and has some of the cheesiest eighties dialogue written 20 years too late — and you’ll love every minute of it!

The Plot:

The Expendables centers on a team of “guns for hire” who are commissioned to take down a corrupt South American dictator. Instead of going after the native government, they take on a fallen CIA agent (Roberts) who’s gone all Marlon Brando circa Apocalypse Now by becoming a part of the problem he was sent in to solve. These 5 men, each proficient in their own style of killing, whether it be guns, knives, martial arts, or wrestling put their skills to the test when they take on an entire country of brainwashed soldiers.

The Good:

The Action: With The Expendables, the action is what you want and the action is what you get. Within the first 10 minutes you find out just how violent and bloody this movie is going to be. Torsos get blown off with one bullet, heads are decapitated with the single stroke of a knife, and necks are broken and bent with a swift kick to the throat.
The Tone: This movie doesn’t take itself seriously. Stallone set out to make the biggest action homage known to man and he did. It’s nothing more and nothing less. You immediately know what you’re in for.
Jason Statham: A lot of people love Jason Statham and for years I couldn’t figure it out — until now. Out of this pumped up group he sticks out because he oozes charisma. When he’s on screen you can’t take your eyes off of him. His character is an amazing knife thrower, who doesn’t just stab people to death, he slices their face, kicks them in the stomach, and shoots them in the leg all in the time span of 3 seconds. He’s that damn good!
Eric Roberts: As the villain, Roberts embodied everything you love and hate about villains in action movies. He fit every cliche known to man. He was the white, power hungry American who came in to a foreign country to take over their drug trade. Not only that but he had the slicked back hair, the styling suit, and a ruthless bodyguard (Austin) to fight his battles. Despite all that he was entertaining to watch and had some of the wittiest and hilarious lines in the movie, which he delivered with finesse.
The Humor: There were so many intentional and unintentional funny moments in this film. A lot of times the script would try to give us something dramatic but the set up or the wording would be so ridiculous that you’d have no choice but to laugh. That goes back to the idea of the film not taking itself too seriously. There are many underlying puns that take jabs at the stars long running careers especially in the scene with Bruce Willis, Stallone, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, they’re a regular Three Stooges!

The Bad:

The Special Effects: Even though The Expendables had a great cast, it wasn’t produced on a huge budget. The lack of money can be seen every time an explosion happens or someone gets shot or stabbed (which happens a lot). The blood looks cartoonish and some of the scenes that involved fire didn’t look believable.

Overall:

The Expendables is hardcore. When you leave the theater you have no idea what you just saw but you want to see more. Not only would I recommend seeing this movie once, you should see it twice. It’s pure nostalgia for the eighties action fan. You know the acting is going to suck, you know the story is going to be non-existent, but you also know that people are gonna get their asses kicked 7 ways from Sunday!

Rating: 9/10

Sly F*cks Up YouTube Promoting Expendables

They are doing a hell of a job getting creative with The Expendables marketing! In this latest viral campaign Sly and the gang fuck up YouTube during an interview. Apparently, sitting and asking questions is just too boring for a group of trained killers — they have to shoot a gun every 4.2 minutes of their nuts shrivel up and fall off — it’s true, I saw it in another interview that got taken out by snipers..

Sadly I can’t embed the latest “video” but you can find it at www.youtube.com/expendables. They play with the idea of a mundane interview and even get a bit creative with their shooting powers!

Poor Shira Lazar, I was actually on a panel with her and she was quite nice, but I don’t think she can survive an oozy.

The Expendables co-stars Jason Statham, Jet Li, Terry Crews, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis, and of course, Arnold Schwarzenegger. The story centers on a group of rogue mercenaries on a mission to take down the corrupt government in a South American country.

Comic-Con 2010: The Expendables Panel

The Comic-Con panel for the new action film, The Expendables, has to be, by far, the beefiest and the manliest panel of all time. The director, writer and star, Sylvester Stallone, will be joined by a few members of the cast including Steve Austin, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, and Terry Crews. The panel will be moderated by Harry Knowles. I’m fairly sure that somewhere in the panel they will talk about breaking necks and just beating the living daylights out of each other.

Now it’s time for it to start! We will have a play-by-play of all the highlights from the panel…

5:05pm-Harry Knowles starts moderating:
“Aren’t you hungry for a movie that makes you want to hit the gym?”

5:07pm-Knowles:
“I’ll be representing estrogen up here tonight”

5:09pm-Terry Crews walks on stage, rips his shirt off, climbs up on the table and does dueling banjos with his pecs.

5:10pm-Knowles: “When I did a set visit in New Orleans, I saw a forearm that scared the shit out of me. That forearm belonged to Randy Couture.”

5:14pm-Stallone walks out, blue sunglasses on, Travolta Pulp Fiction white shirt and black tie, as the crowd chants “Rocky! Rocky! Rocky!”

5:19pm-Crews on getting cast: “[Stallone] had me at hello. This is the manliest movie ever made.”

5:22pm-Bruce Willis makes a super short special appearance, walking out to hug Stallone following his RED panel and everyone goes nuts.

5:23pm-Sly: “There’s never gonna be another Bruce Willis”

5:23pm-Knowles to the audience: “How fucking awesome is this?!?!”

5:24pm-Willis: “This film is huge. It’s really huge.”

5:25pm-Sly: “If Arnold shows up, don’t let him in. I’ve had it with him. He’s too good.” –and then Willis leaves.

5:29pm-Stallone talking about Jet Li and Dolph Lundgren’s fight scene: “Talk about David versus Goliath”

5:34pm-Stallone tells the audience his neck was broken by Steve Austin while they were filming.

Sly: “It was my own fault”
Austin: “When the writer, director and star tells you to kick the shit out of him, you kick the shit out of him.”
Sly: “I always get hurt on my best movies. I didn’t get hurt on Rhinestone. I didn’t get hurt on Stop or My Mom Will Shoot. I get hurt and it’s a great movie”

5:40pm-Knowles introduces a clip from the movie. “I was told by people at Lionsgate that they were shocked, shocked!, that we could run this clip. It’s called “The Tunnel Fight.”

5:41pm-Machetes, broken bones, pure carnage, Crews draws the biggest cheers from the crowd as he mows down a mini army.

5:44pm-Knowles: “I’m a cream puff, look at me. When I was on that set…Jason Statham’s sitting there playing with knives showing me all the different ways he could kill me.”

5:46pm-Stallone on why they shot in Brazil: “You can shoot people and blow things up and they say “Thank you! Take a monkey home with you!” We couldn’t have pulled off what we did (somewhere else). We blew up huge plots of land. It was like, Everybody bring their hot dogs. We’re having a BBQ today. We’re gonna blow up this village.”

5:53pm-Stallone responding to an audience question about if there were over-the-top arm wrestling matches on set: “You know what? I hate that sport so much because I’m so bad at it. But now that you brought it up…” And then he pretends to arm wrestle Steve Austin. “Kidding, Steve. Humor.”

5:58pm-Stallone replying to what other people would’ve been in the movie: “I talked to Van Damme, I talked to Segal, I talked to Chuck Norris. There’s things like availability, or insanity, that makes things not work out.”

6:05pm-Stallone is asked if he prefers acting or directing: “It’s no comparison, directing. Because I’m a power freak. A total control whore.”

6:12pm- Stallone is asked what happens when you accidentally get hit by your co-star during a fight sequence: “Sometimes when that happens, you can’t wait for them to get to (the next time) so you can crack ‘em. I had that on Demolition Man. I had that on Death Race 2000 with David Carradine. But I couldn’t do anything because he was the star.”

6:22pm-Panel ends with a standing ovation
