The Raid Sundance 2012: The Raid Movie Review

With over a week remaining, it may be a bit early to say so, but it’s entirely possible that Gareth Huw Evans’ The Raid is the single coolest film screening at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival.  This high octane action flick packs a wallop that doesn’t let up, blow after blow.  The international films at this festival always remind us that there is some amazing, innovative film making going on across the globe, and this terrific action thriller is proof positive.  To find out more, check out the rest of the review after the jump…

Sundance 2012: Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie – Movie Review

Tim Erics Billion Dollar Movie 1 Sundance 2012: Tim and Erics Billion Dollar Movie Movie Review

There are plenty of strange films shown at the Sundance Film Festival each year, but Tim and Eric’s Billion Dollar Movie has got to be one of the strangest.  Often, when a TV show with a die hard cult following is given a shot at the big screen, the results can be disastrous.  Sure, Borat is great, but Bruno was decidedly not, and Ali G: Indahouse is trite and insipid, and Mr. Show with Bob and David‘s film Run, Ronnie, Run is insufferable to the point of being unwatchable.  So do the creators of Tim and Eric Awesome Show Great Job, which is already an acquired taste, even stand a chance to fill up the big screen and feature length runtime with the kind of movie that even their demented demographic will want to watch?  Check out the rest of the review to find out…

Thursday marked the beginning of 2012′s Sundance Film Festival, with a small handful of premiers that will eventually ramp up to the deluge of screenings and events in the coming days.  Among the films that premiered was Todd Luiso’s Hello, I Must Be Going, a cute little indie romance flick that’s just about what you’d expect from an “indie” film at Sundance.  For more on the film, check out the rest of the review after the jump…

The schedule is packed with what looks like numerous amazing films with phenomenal filmmakers. One of our favorite Sundance veterans is Mark Duplass (Cyrus – 2010, Humpday – 2009, Puffy Chair – 2005) who is here with four, count ‘um, four films this year and there are many newcomers that I’m sure we’ll be saying “are the REAL filmmakers” in a week’s time.

So, to break it down, I’ve picked the top 5 films that I’m excited for this Sundance 2012, which was extremely challenging. Check out the list below… and be sure to check out Brendan’s Top Five Films To See At Sundance 2012 as well!

Interview: Bellflower Filmmaker Evan Glodell on Making the Impossible, Possible

evan bellflower8 3 11 Interview: Bellflower Filmmaker Evan Glodell on Making the Impossible, Possible

Another Sundance film hits theaters this weekend, and trust me, this is no indie darling, this bad boy has teeth. Bellflower is a flow of raw emotions with honest performances set in some of the most realistically, imaginative circumstances. I grant you that sentence is confusing, but it’s hard to describe a film that literally emotes from the screen. This film is not just about telling a story, but expressing the struggles and feelings of the filmmaker himself — which apparently consisted of a frustration, anger, fear and of course a bit of love.

Evan Glodell, the films writer, director, editor, actor and probably a little bit of everything else, started with an idea and the conviction to get his career started no matter how many challenges arouse. He never gave in, he was determined to finish the film with absolutely no help from any real investors…
