If you recall, we reported last week that Stephen Colbert’s The Colbert Report abruptly halted production for two episodes, with Comedy Central offering now explanation for the hiatus of their satirical news program beyond the fact that it was happening because of unforeseen circumstances. Well, Colbert returned on Monday night, and offered a cryptic possible explanation for his program’s absence.

With very, very ambiguous reasoning, Comedy Central has abruptly cancelled production for at least the next two episodes of The Colbert Report, the satirical news program hosted by Stephen Colbert, coming as fairly startling surprise, especially as the halting takes place in the middle of a very contentious Republican primary race, which is top fodder for the program.

In an effort to raise funds for the American Red Cross in light of the tragedies in Japan, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert devised a way to turn Stephen Colbert singing “Friday” – the Rebecca Black sung internet sensation – into event television. Dealing with the relief effort in Japan is no joke, but sometimes it takes levity to get people to help out. Late night comedians Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon have decided to pool their efforts to raise money, and have concocted interesting threats against each other to help raise money. Colbert said Fallon would match the money of his charitable efforts, to which Fallon promised that if $26,000 was raised Colbert would sing Rebecca Black’s internet sensation “Friday” on the Friday late night show. They came, they saw, the conquered. Jon Stewart from “The Daily Show” and Stephen Colbert from “The Colbert Report” have a lot more power than people think. There’s a reason Stewart was named the most influential man of 2010. The hosts got together on October 30th to headline their “Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear,” which took place on the Mall in Washington DC. According to estimates over 215,000 people attended the event that makes Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor Rally” and its 87,000 attendees look like child’s play.

Jon Stewart’s Rally to Restore Sanity and Stephen Colbert’s March to Keep Fear Alive are less than 15 days away, and the two leaders just got an extra boost of support from Lady O. Oprah Winfrey appeared on a recent episode of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart” and surprised the host and his audience with a major announcement. They’re all going to Washington D.C. and she’s going to foot the bill!

So, Stephen Colbert is becoming a member of the Borg.
OK, not really, but we can dream. No, what happened was this. Glen Beck, realizing he hadn’t managed to get a bunch of liberal blogs all offended at him that week back in August, ran a “Restoring Honor” rally, because nobody knows honor like a former zoo-crew DJ who once mocked a rival’s wife on air for having a miscarriage (and no, this isn’t that dead teenager thing: Beck actually did that).

Jon Stewart and his arch nemesis Stephen Colbert are at it again. The duo are at each other’s throats and this time it’s a battle of the rallies! According to ABC News, Stewart plans on leading a Rally to Restore Sanity at the end of October to combat Colbert’s March to Keep Fear Alive. These are both parodies of Glenn Beck’s Conservative Restoring Honor rally that took place last month. So what will Stewart and Colbert do to top each other?

Conan O’ Brien’s latest stop on his “Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television” tour took him to Radio City Music Hall in New York City. A who’s who of actors made appearances including “Saturday Night Live’s” Bill Hader, “The Office’s” John Krasinski, Paul Rudd, and Comedy Central staples Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert. And we all know what happens when Conan, Colbert, and Stewart are in the same place at the same time…a dance off!
