I knew this would happen sooner or later. According to the LATimes, major film studios have been courting internet giant YouTube for movie distribution. Instead of using Netflix or going to Blockbuster, could you imagine renting movies via your YouTube account? The concept isn’t far from reality, and may go into effect sooner than you think.

The director of The King of Kong has a new King – King Dork. According to /film, Seth Gordon is in the talks to direct a big screen adaptation of Frank Portman‘s young King Dork, a drama/comedy about a teenage misfit who seeks refuge in music (we can relate to that), and tries to uncover the truth about his father’s death.
When the novel was first published in 2006, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay quickly optioned to make it into a feature film with Paramount Vantage, but the project has now moved to Sony Pictures.

Sam Raimi is set to spin another thread in the already dense web of Spider-Man flicks.
The director announced last week that Spider-Man 4 will be released May 6, 2011, but shot down reports that Sony Pictures was working on the fifth installation of the series simultaneously. Raimi said that he and the production team “are in the earliest stages of working with the writer, trying to work out a story,” but still no details on the villains or basic plot points.
He might be pushing it with a fourth (and fifth!) Spider-Man film, but the director has a fail-safe: more Evil Dead.
Raimi already mentioned at last year’s Comic-Con that he would enjoy making another Evil Dead film, so IGN managed to snag him for an interview at SXSW for an update on prospects for the franchise:

Doing justice to one cultural icon is a challenge. In Cadillac Records, writer-director Darnell Martin speeds through six, count ‘em, six music legends in two hours. It should come as no surprise that the result can be a bumpy ride. Mostly it plays like polished cable fare blessed with a run on the big screen, but there are a few highlights, including the most outstanding cast in recent memory.
