David O. Russell’s next film project is the undertaking of the video game adaptation Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. The helmer is experiencing a surge in his career due to the popularity of The Fighter and all its Oscar nominations, but fans haven’t been as receptive to his take on Uncharted. People aren’t too keen about Mark Wahlberg playing Nathan Drake, and we can only imagine their response to who Russell has in mind to play Elena.

Russell recently spoke to Empire Magazine, and revealed who he thinks has the chops to play the female lead in the big screen adaptation.

“Ah, Elena. I’ve cultivated her quite a bit and I think I’ve added a lot of dimension to her so that’s all I’m going to say. I love the woman characters and the more robust they are, the more robust the movie.”

The interviewer then brought up Amy Adams as a possibility to which Russell responded…

“Oh I would love that too, I love Amy. I also love Scarlett Johansson; there’s a lot of great actors I think might suit. Hopefully, we’ll see how it works out with everybody who are being scoped to do that role…”

Did he just say Scarlett Johannson? Yes, yes he did! Our doubts regarding this film continue to get bigger and bigger. She could be a decent Elena, but we’re still bitter about her being cast as Black Widow in Iron Man 2, so we’re not sure about this.

No, no, no, no, no—please, God, Buddha, Vishnu, Allah, Morgan Freeman, whoever, don’t let this be true: NME reports that Twilight star and douche-y hairstyle enthusiast Robert Pattinson is set to follow in his Twilight co-star Kristin Stewart’s footsteps by starring in a rock biopic. His role? The tortured, tragic Nirvana frontman, Kurt Cobain. I… well… there just are no words for this.

Apparently, Cobain’s widow Courtney Love has been in “regular contact” with the pin-up idol, and it’s implied that she’s given the go-ahead for Pattinson to portray her late husband in the upcoming (and long-gestating) biopic by Universal Pictures.  Further, rumors are swirling that Scarlett Johannson is Love’s first choice to portray herself. Somehow, the casting of two of Hollywood’s glamour-slicked beautiful people (who, by the way, haven’t exactly positioned themselves as the strongest actors of their generation—unless blank stares is your thing) to portray the scruffy and ultimately tragic grunge-era couple leaves just a smidge to be desired.  Also?  It’s Robert-goddamned-Pattinson, people.  Really.

There is a handful of hope, however: the film is reportedly based on Charles Cross’ excellent Cobain biography, Heavier Than Heaven, and the film is set to be directed by the always-innovative David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac).  Still… all apologies to the Twihards in the audience, but I think I’ll pass on this one.
