Someone in the big blue sky heard our prayers and decided to put the long running Saw franchise out of its misery. The last installment of the series didn’t fair well at the box office, which should have been a dead giveaway that we were no longer interested. Over at Latino Review, they got the low down on what’s really going on behind closed doors from one of the franchise’s writers, Patrick Melton.
We recently reported on how Saw VI director Kevin Greutert, was up to helm the sequel to the surprise hit, Paranormal Activity. According to Cinemablend, the folks over at Lionsgate, the studio producing the Saw films, have forced Greutert to direct the next installment of their series, which would delay production on Paramount’s Paranormal Activity 2.
When Saw VI hit theaters last month it was mostly overlooked due to the phenomenon that is Paranormal Activity. It debuted at number 2 with 14 million dollars as compared to the larger numbers previous installments have produced. To date the film has only brought in a domestic gross of 27 million and somehow for the people over at Lionsgate, that’s enough to warrant another sequel.
Wow. Just to show how viral campaigning and word of mouth can topple the opening of a gigantic franchise, Paranormal Activity in it’s fifth week in theaters took down Saw VI with a swift kick to the knees. Paramount must be so happy right now. They are just living the dream of taking a small movie and blowing it up as big as it can possibly go.
With the economy as it is and studios in trouble, you can bet we are going to see a lot of movies about this time next year trying to emulate Paranormal‘s success. Hell, they could make a hundred small budget films for the price of one main stream one and only need one to hit to make back their money. Don’t tell me that’s not tempting, especially when you see so many mainstream films missing the mark..

At the stroke of midnight this morning Saw VI began running in theaters across the country serving up it’s annual gore and terror. The franchise has become somewhat of a staple during the Halloween season, and is known for pushing the envelope. The film is rated R for obvious reasons, but according to Reuters, over in Spain they took it a step further and gave it a big, fat “X.”
If you thought the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise would see redemption one day, you were wrong. According to Variety, Leatherface has a new home and it’s with Twisted Pictures. They’re the same geniuses behind the long running Saw franchise, and now they’ve got their hands on one of cinema’s biggest horror icons.
A teaser trailer has been released for the upcoming film, Saw VI and it proves that the franchise should have stopped a long time ago. For the past few months we’ve been keeping you updated with various posters and photos from the movie, and now we’ve got some live action footage to show you.

It’s just not professional to start an article with “ahhhhhh,” so I won’t degrade myself to that level, even though it’s how I honestly feel. After seeing the first few installments of the Saw series, I was under the impression that she bit the dust a while ago. But somehow she’s back for more.
