We watch a lot of movie trailers here at ScreenCrave, and, as we inch closer to summer with its ever-increasing torrent of new films, we’re seeing more and more previews with each passing day. As we do so, we can’t help but notice some similarities, repetitions, and clichés among them. Here at Trailer Park, we’ll be offering a rundown of those clichés, where they come from, and which trailers share them. For our first installment, we’ll be breaking down one of summer’s most ever-present previews: The Horror Movie Trailer.

I Saw the Devil Still 1 Sundance 2011: Reviews I Saw the Devil is Gory as HELL

If you like Chan-Wook Park’s Vengeance Trilogy, you’ll love I Saw the Devil. Director Kim Jee-Woon’s latest thriller doesn’t hold back and doesn’t hesitate to go where you really don’t (but secretly do) want it to go. Everyone endures torture (whether physical, emotional, or psychological) and nobody really comes out on top. But unlike Saw or Hostel, I Saw the Devil is a game of torture you can really get behind. It has all the makings of a classic gore-fest. Its inventively sick and twisted violence builds into a crescendo of mayhem comparable to Old Boy.

Saw 3D: Movie Review

Saw 3D Sean Patrick Flanery 28 10 10 kc Saw 3D: Movie Review

After 6 years and 7 films (how is that possible?) another Saw sequel is opening in theaters to scare you this Halloween. The latest installment is entitled Saw 3D, and as you may expect it’s filled with guts, gore, and a group of C-list actors. The film picks up immediately where Saw VI left off and goes down a path of revenge that eventually leads us back to where it all started. Without giving too much away, the film might be the last sequel in the series, emphasis on the word might.

Saw 3D Motion Poster 30 9 10 kc Final Saw 3D Motion Poster Jigsaw Under Construction

Even though the thought of another Saw movie gives me a migraine, I have to admit that they’re viral campaign has been amazing. The trailer itself was reminiscent of old school horror films from the 50s with its gimmicky 3D, and their motion posters are nothing to sneeze at. The latest and final one features Tobin Bell’s character Jigsaw (how is he still a part of this series?) and it looks pretty good. Check out the full poster below…

The theatrical trailer for the seventh film in the Saw series entitled Saw 3D has been released and it’s all about you! Don’t worry, it still hypes up the legend of Jigsaw but it promotes the 3D a lot more. Apparently the 3D effects are so good that they literally pull you in and force you to become a part of the action. You are the last piece of the puzzle…

The fact that the Saw series is still going strong is a mystery to me. It’s like Lionsgate refuses to let it die. On Halloween we can expect our annual sequel from the studio and this time they’ve decided to mix it up. According to STYD, they’ve changed the name of the film. For the first time since the franchise began 6 years ago the title won’t just be a number. Find out the new and uninspired name…

We thought Cary Elwes was done with the Saw series after his stint in the first film that established the ongoing franchise. He’s decided to return for the seventh and hopefully the final installment that will be in 3D (rolls eyes). The studio (Lionsgate) has sent out an official press release with the plot synopsis and the full cast list, which reveals Elwes return as Dr. Lawrence Gordon.
