Although I was a bit surprised to see Sandra Bullock take the Oscar last night (she did do a fine job in The Blind Side, but I was rooting for new-comer Carey Mulligan or my favorite Helen Mirren), I will say she gave one damn fine speech, one with a bit of humility, a few jokes, acceptance of her peers, a message to the mothers of adopted parents and then a WHOLE lotta talk about making out with the Streeper.

The winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Actress goes to Sandra Bullock for The Blind Side. The actress was the front runner in the category this year and previously won the Golden Globe for this role. She thanked her mother and her fellow nominees, especially her “lover” Meryl Streep. It was emotional and humorous at the same time and for the rest of her life she’ll be cited as Academy Award winner, Sandra Bullock.

These are the types of monkey wrenches we like to see thrown in at awards’ shows every once in a while.

Just last night Sandra Bullock received the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Movie Actress of 2009, which wasn’t hard to believe. That’s why it’s no surprise that theater owners all over the country have named Bullock the biggest star of the year.

So glad to see New Moon finally be dethroned from its number one spot, even if it is by Sandra Bullock’s Oscar attempt. At least the The Blind Side has heart and a message instead of… well what exactly did New Moon have aside from some cool special effects and a couple of interesting moments with Michael Sheen?
