After The Avengers hit us with a massive $207 million opening weekend (grossing a worldwide $700 million), it should be no surprise that Disney/Marvel has officially announced the obvious; a sequel is on the way. Of course, we already knew a sequel would be on the way (Marvel rarely stops at just one, and its stars are all signed to multi-film contracts); this is simply the assurance of what we all knew would be happening.

The Avengers is here, and it’s the film Marvel has been planting the seeds for since Iron Man hits screens in 2008. In that time we’ve had films featuring Hulk, Thor, and Captain America to help get audiences in the mood and in the know about these characters. And knowing the characters is important for Joss Whedon’s film, because character development and – for the most part – motivation is kept to a minimum. It’s been a big week for Quentin Tarantino fans—after a long dry spell of no new information from the set of the hotshot director’s newest film, the spaghetti western-influenced Django Unchained, this week has been a veritable free-for-all of new trivia by comparison. First, there was the fantastic Saul Bass-esque teaser poster for the film; today, The Weinstein Company has released an official, 282 word plot summary for the mysterious new movie.

Now that Summer Movie season is almost here (scary, right?), it’s fair to say that Joss Whedon‘s The Avengers came out of the gate swinging, and hasn’t stopped. Yesterday AMC theaters announced a six film marathon of Avengers movies concluding with the new film, and now there’s heavily photo-shopped character posters (via Empire). Check them out:

Because we live in a world in which a man can persevere, work very hard, say motherf***er a whole bunch, and pretty much never, ever turn down a role, no matter how awful the movie, it was announced today by the Guinness Book of World Records that Sam Jackson is the highest grossing actor in the history of humanity itself.

Variety is reporting that Joseph Gordon-Levitt is “in talks” for Quentin Tarantino‘s Django Unchained. Though casting can go into a film’s shooting schedule, the film is set for a January start date, and “in talks” usually means that it’s going to happen. There may be some nasty scheduling conflicts, but those can often be worked out.

When last we talked about Quentin Tarantino‘s latest Django Unchained, Jamie Foxx was the odds-on frontrunner for the lead character. That is now locked up. CNN talked to Foxx recently, and he said the dull platitudes expected of someone up for a big role. “Amazing” Foxx says. It “should be amazing.” Well, duh. The money quote is that he seems to suggest that Leonardo DiCaprio is also a lock the project. “I think, just to be able to work with Quentin Tarantino and Samuel Jackson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and to be able to tell a story that needs to be told…”
