James Bond Shoots, Kills, And Shaves In ‘Skyfall’ Teaser Trailer

Bond fans, it’s been four years since Quantum of Solace shrugged its way into theaters with a mish-mashed plot and nigh-incomprehensible editing; now, it seems that 007 (with a little help from American Beauty and Revolutionary Road director Sam Mendes) is set to get back on track with Skyfall. Last week, we shared the clever new poster for the film; today, you can take a look at the film’s new teaser trailer—gunplay, psychiatric interrogations, and erotic shaving ahoy.

But before you get too excited, remember: this is only a teaser. Not much of a plot is revealed beyond the fact that James Bond gets really pissy if you ask him about anything related to something called “skyfall.” After that, a few quick glimpses of gunfire, an underground train crash, and some heavily intense music cues are all we get.

Still, the Skyfall release is another six months away, so don’t be let down if this teaser doesn’t satisfy your appetite for all things 007—if 2012 has taught us anything about movie marketing thus far, it’s that we’ll see the entire third act of the film wedged into a trailer by the middle of August, effectively spoiling the entire film for us.

Skyfall stars Daniel Craig as James Bond, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, and Albert Finney, and is set for a U.S. release on November 9^th. The plot reportedly concerns M’s past “coming back to haunt her” as well as testing Bond’s loyalty to his long-time boss.

Official ‘Skyfall’ Poster Features James Bond Being, Well, Very James Bond

There’s been a heavy influx of official photos from the set of Skyfall, the 23^rd James Bond film, over the past several months; that said; the film has been relatively lacking in traditional advertising. That changes now: the film’s teaser trailer is set for a May 21^st release, and today, we’ve got the official teaser poster. It’s one that features Daniel Craig’s James Bond being, well, all James Bond-y (with some subtle plot hints). Check it out below.

Actually, upon closer inspection, the poster does have a subtle nod towards the film’s plot, even if, upon first glance, it appears to be a pretty generic Bond opening credits pose. Look carefully, and you’ll see that Bond is not facing down the traditional barrel of the opening credits gun; rather, he’s walking through one of London’s underground tube tunnels. Apparently, a good portion of Skyfall will take place in London’s underground tube system; the new official poster is a clever nod towards that plot point.

Skyfall stars Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem, Ralph Fiennes, and Albert Finney, and is set for a U.S. release on November 9^th. The film’s plot concerns M’s past “coming back to haunt her” as well as testing Bond’s loyalty to his long-time boss.

‘Skyfall’ Offers new Behind-the Scenes Glimpse

Though Daniel Craig brought James Bond into the 21th Century with Casino Royale, it seems Skyfall has brought the franchise into the internet era – at least in terms of marketing. Though the trailer won’t debut until May 25 (where it will be attached to Men in Black III), we’ve seen a lot of behind the scenes glimpses at the film, and now there’s a new featurette highlighting the production design.

It’s a nice little piece with interview footage with Judi Dench talking about how impressed she is with the craftsmanship, and it must be said that the set with all the glass and reflecting billboards looks amazing. And with Roger Deakins as the cinematographer, there’s no question the film is going to look stunning.

What I’m curious about is why director Sam Mendes has kept such a low profile when it comes to doing promotional material. I mean, I understand why he would defer to Daniel Craig or Javier Bardem, but I haven’t seen Mendes say much of anything yet. It is possible that he’s too busy directing to worry about it.

The film doesn’t open until November 9, but all credit is due to the people behind the film for building buzz and interest this far ahead. They’re making this an event, and it does feel like it’s been a while since we last saw 007.

Bond Girls Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe Blog about ‘Skyfall’

When is a Bond Girl not a “Bond Girl?” Naomie Harris and Bérénice Marlohe are joining Daniel Craig, Javier Bardem and Judi Dench in Skyfall, and both seem, superficially, like BGs. But are there rules? Do you have to – at the very least – make a pass at James Bond to join the club? Perhaps director Sam Mendes is the final arbiter, but it seems unlikely that Dench is a “Bond Girl.” Harris and Marlohe have posted video blogs about the shoot, and Bond Girls, and you can check them out after the jump.

In her video, Harris is shown shooting guns and seems to be professional in a way that may mean that she’s just a colleague or foe for Craig’s James Bond. With Bond still mourning the death of Vesper Lynd, perhaps there’s no time for love.

While Harris may or may not be a love interest, Marlohe definitely plays to the stereotypes of Bond girl: she’s glamorous, foreign and possibly deadly in her video. From what they show and what she says, she seems the classic bad Bond girl. They’re the ones who sleep with Bond and then die (trying to kill him before, during or after is optional).

Skyfall is set to open November 9, and this Bond seems to understand modern movie marketing, so these videos are going to be the first in a line of such previews. And with the big box set of all the Bond films hitting Blu-ray around the same time, November’s going to a be a very big month for James Bond.

First Photos of Javier Bardem’s Bond Villain in Skyfall

The latest James Bond film has kept its plot under wraps fairly well – little is known about what happens in the film other than modest plot details. But when it comes to shooting, it’s virtually impossible to go outside and not have someone take photos. And so Oh No They Didn’t! is the first to show Javier Bardem on the set of Skyfall.

And here’s Daniel Craig looking like he means business. Of course these photos tell us very little about the film – it’s likely that Bardem is dressed up like a cop because he’s either trying to get into a secure location – or out of it – undetected. And we now know that his character has blond hair, which adds the film to the list of different hairstyles that Bardem has used over the course of his career.

Skyfall is being helmed by Oscar winner Sam Mendes , which is a strange choice post-Marc Forster‘s mostly botched action sequences in Quantum of Solace. But that movie was started during a writer’s strike, so its problems were partly unavoidable. Still, you would think they’d go with someone who can deliver a good action movie over an actor’s director.

And though Mendes may be good with actors, he’s coming off some films that didn’t that well at the box office. Which makes this look partly like a for-hire gig, so he’s not the most exciting element of this film. What is exciting is Bardem. Having won the Oscar for No Country for Old Men, he’s shown no great interest in taking paycheck gigs (unless Eat, Pray, Love counts), which suggests that what drew him to this was something meaty. Or perhaps more money than he’s ever been offered before. Still, Bardem has chosen an interesting career path, and as much as a new James Bond film is exciting, his presence ups the ante. Skyfall hits theaters November 9.

‘Skyfall’ Will Be The First James Bond Film Released In IMAX Theaters

Just yesterday, we published a new picture from the set of set of Skyfall, the 23^rd James Bond film, along with a video blog from director Sam Mendes. Today, we have even more 007 news for you—it looks like James Bond, after 50 years on the big screen (literally—Dr. No was released in 1962), will finally make his debut in the IMAX format.

On Thursday, IMAX told investors “it will screen more fanboy movie titles in its global network going forward, compared to animated films, and more local language titles screening in Imax theaters in major markets like China and India.” One such “fanboy” title will be Skyfall, which IMAX will digitally remaster and release simultaneously with the film’s worldwide release on October 26, and its United States release on November 9, 2012. The film will have to be remastered as, unlike Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol and The Dark Knight Rises, Skyfall is not being shot with IMAX cameras.

It’s a savvy move on the part of IMAX, as Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol showed both the industry as well as filmgoers that IMAX could be a far more viable, entertaining, and thrilling theatrical format as opposed to the more gimmicky and clunky 3-D.

‘Skyfall’ Director Sam Mendes Releases First Video Blog From The Set Of New Bond Film

Though it’s happening slowly, new media is steadily trickling down from the production of Skyfall, the 23^rd film in the James Bond franchise (and the third film in the Daniel Craig continuity). So far, we’ve seen a pic of Bond sitting by a pool and getting his legs wet (not the most action-packed of scenarios), followed by a shot of a heavily-scruffed Daniel Craig holding a gun in a dark room. Now, not only do we have a new picture of director Sam Mendes and Skyfall co-star Judi Dench on the set (above), we’ve got a new video blog from Mendes to pick apart.

The new pic doesn’t reveal much beyond the fact that Dench’s character, M, digs Sony VAIO. The video, albeit being fairly short, allows us to see the filming of the scene in which Bond is skulking around the dark room noted above, as well as the room in which M is working upon her laptop. We also see some filming inside of an airport, as well as Mendes’ feelings on the Daniel Craig incarnation of the Bond franchise. Check it out:

New ‘Skyfall’ Image Shows James Bond Packing Some Heat

Last month, we reported on the first official picture from Skyfall, the 23^rd film in the James Bond franchise (and the third film in the Daniel Craig continuity). The picture wasn’t exactly action packed and didn’t reveal much, showing as it did the back of Bond’s head as he casually sat by a pool with his legs in the water; however, this new picture features a rough-looking James Bond sneaking and carrying a gun.

The picture shows a bearded Daniel Craig sneaking about with a small handgun in a darkly colorful environment. No word yet on what exactly is happening in this scene, but, given the last two films, it is more than likely something kind of brutal yet eminently badass.

Skyfall is set for release on November 9, 2012, and costars Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, and Javier Bardem. The film is directed by Sam Mendes, and is, thank god, not in 3-D (just thought I’d mention that, since just about every other movie being released this year is being saddled with that silly gimmick).

First Picture of Daniel Craig as James Bond in Skyfall

Yep, that’s Daniel Craig, and Empire is reporting that this is the first official picture of James Bond in Skyfall, the 23rd film in the franchise. The film is due out November 9 later this year, and shooting is underway, so there’s plenty of time to speculate what madness Bond gets into in this adventure. The film is being directed by Sam Mendes and also stars Judi Dench, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw, Albert Finney, Naomie Harris, and Javier Bardem.

As for the content of the picture, perhaps this is setting up that it’s got a bunch of underwater action, like Thunderball or The Spy Who Loved Me, though perhaps Bond is being pensive after having killed someone (always a good bet). Or perhaps he’s hiding his embarrassment from having just peed in the pool.

Realistically, this says zero about anything except that Daniel Craig is in excellent shape, and at some point he feels the need to get in a pool. But pointless and useless speculation is the name of the game when it comes to a film as highly anticipated as this, so perhaps his legs hurt after having a skyfall. What a skyfall is will be revealed in the film, so there’s that to look forward to.

James Bond Producers Reveal Details On Skyfall

James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, and director Sam Mendes held a press conference in London yesterday morning to unveil the title of the 23rd bond film – Skyfall. Daniel Craig will reprise his role as the handsome and daring James Bond, along with Judi Dench. The new cast was also announced, along with plot details and shooting locations, and budget rumors. Everything you need to know about the latest Bond film, after the jump.

Although Mendes isn’t your typical action movie director, he mentioned that he’s all for the action here. “There will be plenty of surprises,” he said, and also added that “the action needs to be balanced with the drama.”

Javier Bardem officially confirmed what he’d been saying all along. The Spanish actor will be playing the villain, but not much else was said on his character. Also joining Craig and Dench (they will reprise their roles) is Berenice Marlohe, who’ll be playing the “glamorous [and] enigmatic” Severin, a.k.a. the new Bond girl. The cast also includes Naomie Harris, Ben Wishaw, Albert Finney, and Ralph Fiennes, but nothing has been said on their roles.

Skyfall‘s official plot was released via Twitter, mentioning that:

“Bond’s loyalty to M is tested as her past comes back to haunt her. As MI6 comes under attack, 007 must track down and destroy the treat, no matter how personal the cost.”

Producer Michael G. Wilson slashed the rumors that their budget was being cut, “We’re on the same budget as the last film. We haven’t had to change anything in the script. In fact, we keep adding things – everything is going to be just as it was.” Not only that, but Bond will be filming on location all over the world – London, Scotland, Shanghai, and Istanbul.

Skyfall will hit U.K. theaters on October 26, 2012, and then the U.S. on November 9, 2012.

‘Bond 23′ May Be Called ‘Skyfall’

Hey, at least it isn’t Quantum of Solace (or Octopussy, The Spy Who Loved Me, or Die Another Day, for that matter), right? Well, it appears that the 23^rd James Bond film may finally have a title, and, in the tradition on vague, one-word titles in the Bond franchise, it could be worse: Skyfall.

While this is by no means confirmed, /Film has it that Sony “has registered URLs such as skyfall-themovie.net, jamesbond-skyfall.com, and others that lend credence to the idea that Skyfall will be used,” and, again, let’s just all thank God it’s not Skyfum of Quantfall or Quantsky of Fallace or whatever the hell. Seriously, that title was just ridiculous.

The Sam Mendes-directed film is set for a November 9, 2012 release, meaning we’ll have a whole year to debate whether or not this is the actual name for the film, and then debate whether or not it’s any good. Honestly, I sometimes wonder why they Sony doesn’t just drop the hip, affected Bond film titles and just put some truth in advertising, and call Bond 23 something like, Daniel Craig Whips The Everliving Hell Out of Some Disfigured And/Or Handicapped Villain and His Various and Nefarious Henchmen While Occasionally Knocking Boots with a Model… Part 23.

Classic James Bond Villain To Appear In ‘Bond 23′?

Oh boy—fans of the classic-era James Bond films just might have something to draw them to the upcoming (and currently untitled) James Bond 23, the third film in the Daniel Craig iteration of the long-running franchise: classic Bond super villain and arch nemesis Ernst Stavro Blofeld (you know, the guy that Dr. Evil was partly based upon) might be making an appearance in the Sam Mendes-directed film.

/Film reports (via WhatCulture!) that Bond 23 screenwriter John Logan has dropped a vague hint about Blofeld’s presence in the upcoming film:

Rather interestingly, during the talk last night Logan was reminded by an audience member of a quote that he said some ten years ago that, in his opinion, “Bond should always fight Blofeld”. When pressed on this he gave a wry smile and said “Bond should always fight Blofeld”.

The character, a long running staple of the early Bond films, has been played by Donald Pleasence, Telly Savalas, Charles Gray, and Max von Sydow, with his first appearance in 1963’s From Russia with Love, and his final appearance in 1983’s Never Say Never Again. In the films, Blofeld is an evil genius and is the head of SPECTRE, a global criminal syndicate. And now that Javier Bardem has confirmed that he will play the villain in Bond 23, does that mean he’ll be portraying Blofeld?
