In Gavin Hood‘s Wolverine film, a number of additional X-Men characters were introduced. The two most high profile were Deadpool (played by Ryan Reynolds) and Gambit (played by Taylor Kitsch). At the time Kitsch was a TV star, while Reynolds was a movie star, albeit mostly in comedies. It seemed odd casting, until right around release rumors circulated that Deadpool would get his own spin-off movie. Deadline Hollywood is reporting it now has a director: Visual Effects Supervisor Tim Miller.

The Green Lantern - which is due out June 17 – has so far only had one trailer that left the fan-base cold. It featured a more jokey Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, and it seemed to be played for laughs. For this weekend’s WonderCon presentation, Warner Brothers went the exact opposite direction with the Martin Campbell-helmed Superhero adaptation, and sold both the scale and the seriousness of the world of Green Lantern. The first set photos from Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington’s latest film Safe House have hit the net. If you’ve been wondering where and when the movie would be filming, we’ve got some answers. Over on PopSugar, they’ve established that the actors have been lying low in South Africa. We’ve all but given up on Ryan Reynolds and his attempt to bring Deadpool back to the big screen. The actor has signed on for roles in major tentpoles from Green Lantern, to R.I.P.D., to Safe House, and while all of those are scheduled or done, Deadpool is still in waiting. Doesn’t that seem kind of strange considering he signed on to star in the film before any of these other projects came to be? Reynolds must have remembered his commitment because over at Empire he spoke about the mutilated character and how the film is still happening.

Ryan Reynolds‘ sarcastic wit will meet its match with the stoic and awkward pauses of Zach Galifianakis. The two actors may join forces for the upcoming comic adaptation R.I.P.D. According to a report from The LA Times, the comedian turned actor is in talks to star in the film, which will feature Reynolds as a cop who hunts the dead.
