That’s right, Conan is back in yet another beefy form in the 2011 adaptation Conan the Barbarian. Jason Mamoa, the man who has recently caught the attention of audiences for his massive physique and his role on the hit TV series “Game of Thrones” suits up, or rather, takes it of, for his latest role as the epic character. It’s hard to really critique a film like this, because its goal is not something I seek out in films. It’s specifically tailored to fans of Conan and action, dramas with nearly no humor or character development. It’s hard to know what to make of the Conan the Barbarian reboot. Will Jason Momoa have the same appeal as Arnold Schwarzenegger did when he took on the role? Will Marcus Nispel deliver a quality sword and sandal epic, or will this be another big budget film that ends up looking like a slightly more expensive Syfy movie? The cast of Nicolas Winding Refn’s action flick Drive continues to grow with the addition of a new actor. “Sons of Anarchy” regular and Hellboy alum Ron Perlman has signed on to join the film according to a report from ScreenDaily. Perlman is in good company with a cast that includes Ryan Gosling, Bryan Cranston, Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac Alfred Brooks, and Christina Hendricks.

At first glance the title Bunraku might sound like the latest Japanese anime to hit the streets but it’s not. It’s a live action film from writer-director Guy Moshe that stars Josh Hartnett, Demi Moore, Woody Harrelson, and Ron Perlman. Nothing against Ron Perlman aka Hellboy, but I was really looking forward to seeing Mickey Rourke in the upcoming Conan remake. According to recent reports the Academy Award nominated actor has been replaced in the film by Perlman who will now take over the role of Corin, the title character’s dad. He’ll also be joined by G.I. Joe alum Said Taghmaoui who played Breaker in the summer blockbuster.

The film is based on the popular comic strip character of the same name that was originally created by Brad Anderson. The film will be a mix of CGI and live action following in the footsteps of Alvin and the Chipmunks and Garfield. This is the stuff Halloween tales are made of! The IFC film I Sell the Dead, is a quirky and eerie story that has all the elements of Gothic folklore. It’s a period piece that mixes greed, murder, vampires, and zombies to create an old fashioned horror fest! When I say old fashioned, I literally mean old fashioned, the film takes place in the 19th century. It stars Dominic Monaghan (Lost, Lord of the Rings) and Ron Perlman (Hellboy) as two men on the opposite side of the law and the spirit world. Throw in a pending execution, and a bottle of whisky, and you’ve got I Sell the Dead!
