RobinHoodDVDALP9 20 10 New DVD Releases: Robin Hood, Modern Family, 30 Rock

There’s only one big time feature film release on DVD this week, but it’s a big one. At least it seems like a big one. It shoulda been a big one. It wanted to be a big one. But, in the end, not quite a big one. The one we’re talking about? Robin Hood.  Yes, the movie you first started seeing trailers for during the end of last football season is finally available as a distraction from this football season. If you care.

If you don’t, you can distract yourself with the last of the avalanche of TV on DVD options coming out this week which includes last season’s winner for Outstanding Comedy Series and the three-time champ it dethroned.

Robin Hood Movie Releases: Robin Hood, Letters to Juliet, Just Wright

Russell Crowe is back with a vengeance. Reminiscent of his Gladiator days, he is now taking the famous role of Robin Hood in Ridley Scott’s version of the well known story of an archer in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion, who becomes the legendary hero known as Robin Hood. Been done before? Oh yeah! Worth seeing? Don’t think so but check out the review below. The film also stars Cate Blanchett and Matthew Macfadyen.

For all of you romantic movie lovers, there is also Gary Winick’s film, Letters to Juliet starring Amanda Seyfried, Vanessa Redgrave, Christopher Egan and Gael Garcia Bernal. Doesn’t it seem like Seyfried is the new Rachel McAdams with all the love dramas? It seems like a good chick-flick to check out. If anything nothing else it’s a good title for marketing!

Check out the movies coming out this week:

Robin Hood: Movie Review

Robin Hood Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett 18 12 09 kc Robin Hood: Movie Review

I begin this review with a sigh… Ridley Scott’s latest action-adventure ride Robin Hood starring Russel Crowe and Cate Blanchett has a number of amazing aspects to it, but as a whole it’s just not enjoyable. These are the reviews I hate because I can see the craftsmanship that went into the film and I want to love it, but I don’t. Technically all the pieces are there, it was well made, well put together, but with a run-time of 140 minutes and too many details, it felt like sitting through a partially real history lesson with some amazing action sequences.

Lets take a deeper look inside…

Robin Hood Russell Crowe Cate Blanchett Ridley Scott Cate Blanchett Wanted to Play Robin Hood

This weekend Cate Blanchett will star as Maid Marion in Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Robin Hood. The Oscar winner is following in the footsteps of several talented actresses who tackled the role before her like the legendary Olivia de Havilland who appeared in 1938 version. But despite the amount of prestige that comes with the part Blanchett wanted to be one to the boys. She wanted to play Robin Hood herself!

Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood will be hitting theaters this weekend and in a blatant attempt to stave off the Iron Man 2 competition Universal has released a new action packed trailer. There’s less emphasis on the classic story and more put on the fight scenes. The film stars Oscar winners Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett as Robin and Maid Marion along with Mark Strong as one of the main villains (he plays the bad guy in everything!). Take a look…

New Interactive Robin Hood Trailer – The Future is NOW

Robin Hood Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett 18 12 09 kc New Interactive Robin Hood Trailer The Future is NOW

The future is now… with a film from the past… which they remade for the present with a whole new kind of trailer. They have officially futurized the past with a brand new interactive trailer for the upcoming remake of Robin Hood. The film stars Russell Crowe and Cate Blanchett, and was directed by Ridley Scott and is set to be in theaters in only a few weeks, but before you can see all your favorite characters on the big screen, play with them on your computer!

Remember those books from when you were young where you got to pick the endings? And sometimes you died… so you flipped back and pretended that never happened? Well, they’ve finally made the same technology for trailers! It might be a bit mis-leading because you get to pick your own plotline (if only they could do that with the film too!), but you do get to see much more footage than a normal trailer and control what the characters do.

Give it a try, it’s kind of fun!

robin hood featurette 7 4 10 kc Robin Hood Behind The Scenes Featurette

Universal just released a behind the scenes featurette for Ridley Scott and Russell Crowe‘s latest collaboration Robin Hood. Even though the story of the vigilante archer has been beaten to death we can’t ignore the ridiculously talented cast in this film. Besides Crowe, it stars fellow Oscar winners Cate Blanchett and William Hurt along with Mark Strong, Matthew McFayden, and Max von Sydow (you know, the guy who played Father Merrin in The Exorcist?).
