Well here’s a blast from the past to make you all realize how old we’ve all become—US Weekly has it that the cast of the classic ‘80s film Stand By Me reunited on Thursday night with director Rob Reiner.

Last week I had the pleasure of speaking to one of my idols Rob Reiner over the phone about his recently released (and unappreciated) film Flipped and his astounding career. Reiner took the 80′s by storm with The Princess Bride, Stand By Me, When Harry Meet Sally and has continued to impress over the years. His secret — creating his own film family that he’s worked with since the beginning and always focusing on the most important part of a film – the story.
In a cinematic world filled with violence and “edge” rules, it’s refreshing to see an upbeat story, with well rounded, rich characters, told by one of the best story-tellers in the business. In fact this film is one of the most unique films I’ve seen this year because it has the one thing almost all the other films are lacking — a solid plot and an interesting story.

Anyone who doesn’t think that The Princess Bride is one of the best films ever made can leave now… I’ll wait… Still waiting! For the rest of you sensible, intelligent human-beings, The Egyptian Theater is having a VERY special event this Thursday, August 5th. Not only will they be showing a double feature of The Princess Bride and Stand By Me at 7:30, but Rob Reiner will also be appearing in person to talk about his career, revisit his earlier films and talk about his upcoming film Flipped. As they always do, there will most likely open up to a Q&A with the audience so that you can get some of your questions answered.

Director Rob Reiner has Flipped from A-listers and The Bucket List to a sweet PG coming-of-age story with a bunch of fresh faces. Normally when I hear “coming-of-age story” and I run for the nearest theater with some sex and blood splatter, but Rob Reiner does have a certain way of telling stories that not only rings true with viewers but also leaves a lasting impressions (i.e. The Princess Bride, Spinal Tap, When Harry Met Sally).
Producing the film is Alan Greisman who worked with Reiner on The Bucket List and Alex and Emma, hopefully this film is more of a Stand By Me than the first two films mentioned, but seeing as Gresinman has Soapdish under his belt I’m not too worried.
