Having been a part of pop-culture consciousness since its release, Brian De Palma’s 1983 remake Scarface took on a life of its own as a blueprint for the gangsters and wanna-be gangsters for the last (nearly) thirty years. Which may have been the case with Howard Hawks’s Scarface, which was made in 1932, and cast the main character as an Al Capone-ish thug who rose in the ranks due to his use of excessive violence. That cultural legacy is enough to warrant a new take on the material, so Universal is looking for writers of a new Scarface – according to Deadline Hollywood.

In 1987 Dirty Dancing was a phenomenon, and if Crazy, Stupid, Love. is to be believed, it has enough cultural relevance to still be parodied today with most people knowing the film’s big dance number. There was a late attempt to give it a semi-sequel in Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights, but that came in 2004 with only a cameo by Patrick Swayze. The only thing left to do is remake it, and (as broken by Deadline Hollywood) Lionsgate has hired Kenny Ortega to direct it.

Vincenzo Natali, Director of Cube and the upcoming thriller Splice, told MTV that he is interested in resurrecting Swamp Thing and bringing it to a new generation…
“There are two incarnations of Swamp Thing — both of them are quite wonderful,” he stated. “The first one was by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, which was a more traditional sort of retake on classic, James Whale-style, Universal Studio horror films. Then Alan Moore reinvented the character in the early ’80s, and that’s actually the version that’s a little more interesting to me.”

Is there a legitimate reason to remake The Amityville Horror when it was already done 4 years ago? According to Bloody Disgusting that’s exactly what’s going to happen thanks to Dimension Films and the Weinstein Company. The 1979 horror flick was remade in 2005 by Michael Bay‘s production company Platinum Dunes, and went on to gross over 100 million dollars worldwide, but that wasn’t enough because here comes another one.

The original film that debuted in theaters back in 1985 will be revamped by DreamWorks Studios, and they’ve already hired a screenwriter for the job.

As we previously reported, the film entitled Let Me In will star Chloe Moretz, Kodi Smit-Mcphee, and Richard Jenkins.
