Sci-Fi-philes can dig into some Battle: Los Angeles, gross-out comedy lovers have Hall Pass to whet their dirty appetites and fans of inexplicable fairy tale remakes can indulge themselves with Red Riding Hood. Such a variety of DVDs, but are they really that different? Perhaps not.

Battle: Los Angeles debuted at the top of its pack this weekend, making more than any film, including Red Riding Hood and Mars Needs Moms. The thriller generated $36 million, while Red Riding Hood produced just over $14 million, and placed third. Last week we predicted that Rango would place before the new Disney film Mars Needs Moms, and we were right. Rango kept up there (and ranked No.2) grossing $23.1 million, while Mars Needs Moms bombed grossing only $5 million.

People were saying “maybe Hardwicke just made her trailer to look Twilight to attract the same audience, but maybe the film will be different!” Wrong! Red Riding Hood and Twilight go together like “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show“. If you like one you’re bound to like the other despite its SLIGHT shift in tone and structure. Try as I might — maybe because I’m an adult who has had sex, not a teenager hoping for two model-esq men to fight over me and try and steal me away — I just could not get into this story. A new poster has been released for the Catherine Hardwicke directed feature Red Riding Hood. The film is based on the popular children’s story of the same name that centers on a young girl, who attempts to avoid a dangerous wolf while traveling to her grandmother’s house.
