New Photos: The Three Musketeers 3D

A couple new images have been released for Paul WS Anderson’s upcoming 3D adaptation of The Three Musketeers. Over on Coming Soon, they debuted some photos that feature the title characters including a young Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson and The Olympians: The Lightning Thief). Check out the Musketeers in action below…

Not too shabby! None of these actors are extremely famous but they’ve been around long enough for people to recognize their faces. This already looks a lot different from the 1990′s version.

The story of The Three Musketeers centers on D’Artagnan (Lerman), a young man who leaves home to become a member of the fighting force of the French king’s royal household. Along the way, he makes friends with three of the force’s best — and most disgraced — members: Athos, Porthos and Aramis, whose creed of friendship is “All for one and one for all!” The story was published in 1844 and written by Alexandre Dumas.

The cast includes Oscar winner Christoph Waltz, Matthew Macfadyen, Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans, Milla Jovovich, Mads Mikkelsen, James Corden and Orlando Bloom.

The Three Musketeers is scheduled to hit theaters on October 14, 2011. And just in case you didn’t know, the film has been shot in 3D.

This must be the week for photo exclusives. First Bill Condon gave us a peek into the world of The Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn and now Summit Entertainment has released a photo from one of their other novel adaptations: The Three Musketeers. It’s director Paul W.S. Anderson’s take on the classic French tale, which features three fighters, a teenage runaway, and a beautiful woman. What do you think of the newest version of the famous heroes?

The Three Musketeers is scheduled to hit theaters on October 14, 2011. And just in case you didn’t know, the film has been shot in 3D. Get ready for that…again.

Christoph Waltz Leads Paul WS Anderson’s Three Musketeers Cast

Over the past few months we’ve been hearing about Paul WS Anderson’s 3D version of the classic, The Three Musketeers. According to THR, casting is underway and an Oscar winner and a slew of familiar faces have signed on for the film. Expect to see Christoph Waltz, Milla Jovovich, Mads Mikkelsen, Ray Stevenson, Matthew Macfadyen, Luke Evans, and Logan Lerman all in Anderson’s epic adaptation.

According to the trade, Lerman from Percy Jackson and The Olympians will star as D’Artagnan; Stevenson, Evans, and Macfadyen will play the famous Porthos, Athos and Aramis, while Waltz and Mikkelsen will portray the bad guys (no surprise there) Cardinal Richelieu and Rochefort.

Jovovich will star as Milady de Winter, a former love of Athos. And an offer has gone out to Orlando Bloom to play arch nemesis the Duke of Buckingham but no confirmation has been given.

This film truly has an international cast. Waltz is Austrian, Jovovich is from the Ukraine, Evans and Macfayden are from the UK, Mikkelsen is Danish, Stevenson is Irish, and Lerman is American. It looks like this movie will have something for everyone.

Townsend, Stevenson, Asano Cast in Thor

Three beefy roles have been cast in Kenneth Branagh‘s upcoming live action adaptation of Thor. According to Variety, Stuart Townsend, Ray Stevenson, and Tadanobu Asano are all set to play the Warriors Three in the film. There were already rumors that the characters would be involved, so here are the actors attached to play them.

According to the trade, Townsend will play Fandral, a character which was drawn in the comic book series based on Errol Flynn and his movies. Stevenson, the Rome star, plays Volstagg the Valiant, a hard-living brawler, a character inspired by Falstaff. Asano, will play Hogun the Grim, the third warrior and traveling companion of the hammer-swinging Thor, who is played by Chris Hemsworth.

The Warriors Three are an interesting group of characters to cast in the film alongside the previously announced actors. Anthony Hopkins was recently cast as Odin, Thor’s father and Natalie Portman is on board as his love interest, Jane Foster. This movie is shaping up to be something worth looking into. Real directors, hiring the right actors as opposed to who’s hot at the moment is what will make the new wave of comic book movies timeless.

The only downside to all of this, is the fact that we won’t be able to see any of these guys in action until Thor is released on May 20, 2011! It seems like such a long time to wait, but hopefully it will be well worth it.

Castings: Dwayne Johnson, Robert De Niro, James McAvoy

So many castings, so little time. A lot of news regarding some of your favorite actors and actresses has broken overnight. Here’s a rundown of who’s hooking up with who and for what project.

Dwayne Johnson will be going back to his action roots with his latest film. The actor is in final negotiations to star in Faster, where he’ll play an ex-con trying to avenge his brothers death. The film will reteam the actor with Gridiron Gang director Phil Joanau. [Variety]
After the greatness that was 2001′s The Score, Edward Norton and Robert De Niro are reuniting for another project. They will star in the indie thriller, Stone. De Niro will play “a correctional officer who is seduced by the wife of a convicted arsonist (Norton) up for parole.”[Variety]
James McAvoy, Elizabeth Banks, Laura Linney, and Anna Friel will star in a comedy entitled, The Details. The film will be directed by Jacob Estes, who also wrote the screenplay featuring a couple who disagrees about how to handle a raccoon infestation in their backyard. [RopeofSilicon]

Ray Stevenson, Val Kilmer, and Christopher Walken are teaming up for the mob drama The Irishman. Stevenson will play a Cleveland based mobster, Kilmer will star as a cop, and Walken will play a loan shark. [Variety]
The cast of Alexandre Aja’s Piranha 3-D keeps growing with their latest addition, Jerry O’Connell. No further info has been given regarding his character, but producer Mark Canton thinks the film could be “the ultimate Jaws for this generation.” [RopeofSilicon]

HBO’s Rome is Headed to the Big Screen

If you were a fan of the HBO period drama Rome I’ve got some great news for you. Ever since the short lived series got cancelled back in 2007, there’s been talk of a feature film version in the works. In a recent interview with Movie Web, former co-star Ray Stevenson (above) dropped the bomb that the Rome movie is happening! According to the actor the film’s screenplay is in “full development,” and he’s anxious to step back into the role of Titus Pullo. Check out the highlights from the interview after the jump.

When asked if the Rome movie is still happening the Irish actor had this to say.

Apparently so. It is no longer a smoke and mirrors rumor. The script is in full development. As you are probably aware, this is a pretty strange process. We could go into production in a year, or it could be as quick as six months. Who knows? It will happen. At least it is no longer a rumor. From what I have heard, they are nearing the end of script development. We shall see. We shall see.

I’m sure you’re wondering if the film version will be as good as the series. Unfortunately, big screen adaptations don’t always do their shows justice. Stevenson says that series creator Bruno Heller is writing the film’s screenplay, and he believes it’s in good hands.

Bruno is the one writing the movie, thankfully. I don’t think anybody else could write the movie. It will be Bruno at the helm. That guy has a soft spot for Pullo and Vorenus. I don’t think he will let the ball drop. I don’t think he will disappoint. He never pulled his punches with the hard drama or the social status, or the action sequences. He put full honesty into the characters. I completely trust him, and I can’t wait to read his script once it materializes.

I can’t believe this is happening. I really can’t explain how much I loved that show. I think it’s really interesting how these well written, prematurely cancelled shows manuever around the networks to reach their fans. Firefly (Serenity) did it, Arrested Development will soon, and now Rome. Take that network executives!

Michael Gambon Joins ‘The Book of Eli’

More casting news for the Denzel Washington futuristic epic, The Book of Eli. As previously reported Washington will play the lead in the Hughes Brothers project that co-stars Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson and Jennifer Beals. A new mystical element has been added to the film as Irish actor Michael Gambon has just joined the cast. According to THR, “Gambon will play one half of a strangle couple that holds onto old traditions in the futuristic tale.”

Prior to this casting development there wasn’t a final release date set for Eli, but that is no longer the case.

Warner Bros.-based Alcon Entertainment and Silver Pictures are co-producing the film, which Warners will release domestically Jan. 15, 2010, while Summit Entertainment handles international sales. Alcon’s Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson are producing “Eli” along with Joel Silver and Washington.

Michael Gambon is best known for his role as Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter film series. He replaced Richard Harris in the role after the actor died of complications from Hodgkins disease in 2002.You can see Gambon in full Dumbledore mode when Harry Potter and the Half- Blood Prince is released this summer.

Jennifer Beals Joins ‘Eli’

Denzel Washington will be teaming up with a familiar face in his futuristic, epic The Book of Eli. Star of the Showtime series The L Word, and 80′s dance icon, Jennifer Beals has just signed on to star in the film, alongside Washington, Gary Oldman, Ray Stevenson and Mila Kunis. It’s been a while since Beals has hit the big screen in a major film production, but she’s back and in a big way!
