Months ago rumors surfaced that Chicago and Nine director Rob Marshall would take over directing duties on Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. According to AICN, the director confirmed himself at a Q&A event that took place after an early screening of Nine, that he would in fact direct Pirates 4.

What’s with the constant tug of war between the producers and the actors of the pending Pirates of the Caribbean sequel, On Stranger Tides? Over the past month or so there have been rumors regarding whether or not the film will still happen due to star Johnny Depp’s recent change of heart about the Disney franchise. For the most part, the studio refuted the rumors and said everything would continue as planned, yet co-star Bill Nighy seems to think the film is on shaky ground.

For the past couple of weeks, we’ve been on a roller coaster ride of will he or won’t he with Johnny Depp and Disney. After the actor released a few cryptic statements regarding his involvement with the upcoming sequel Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, fans have been worried that he might not reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. It’s looking grim for the new Pirates of the Caribean trilogy that Disney’s trying to pull off. Over at Cinemablend, they got an exclusive tip from a source who claims that Johnny Depp may not return to the franchise after his appearance in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. The actor is currently in negotiations to reprise the role of Captain Jack Sparrow, but due to a few recent events, Pirates 5 and 6 are definitely uncertain.

Disney is in deep planning for their fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film entitled On Stranger Tides, which is scheduled for a 2011 release. Recently, the studio announced that their longstanding Chairman Dick Cook was leaving the company, and it left a lot of people bitter. News spread like wildfire throughout Hollywood and Johnny Depp wasn’t the least bit thrilled.
He vocally expressed his lack of enthusiasm about returning to do another movie, and clarified that he’s still in negotiations. Will the film go on as planned? Geoffrey Rush seems to think so.

Yesterday we informed you of Disney Chairman Dick Cook’s resignation from his longstanding position at the studio. Cook had been with Disney for 38 years and was the man behind some of the companies biggest success stories. Almost 24 hours after the announcement, a minor backlash has begun and many actors who worked with the former Chairman are wondering where their future with the studio lies.
Even Johnny Depp, Disney’s own Jack Sparrow has reacted to the story and he is not a happy pirate.

At the Disney D23 Expo, some new info has been revealed regarding the upcoming fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. The studio recently announced the new film’s subtitle as, On Stranger Tides. Pirates is scheduled for release during the summer of 2011, and will feature the return of Captain Jack as played by Johnny Depp. The new title isn’t as catchy as At World’s End, but it will do.
